Warning do not read unless seen episode.
I may'be in the minority on this but Season 6a was pretty bad, granted there are a few good episodes including this one but like I said few. This season just made not just the same mistakes from last season but even more mistakes than before; let alone plot holes and empty imagination enough to form a missile crater.
I'm just going to mention a few negatives. There was way too much going on, this part of the season was just crammed with so many plot lines and subplots that they just don't go together or let alone work, like adding ingredients to a smoothie that don't agree with each other, it tastes pretty bad.
And most of those plot lines that just went out the window for no reason or no good reason. Like that whole thing of a possible terrorist cell in the Lost Tales community that was just gone, let alone the whole Lost Tales community in general, just simply disappeared. This also meant that more opportunities got lost.
I'm also going to be in the minority on this but I honestly didn't ask for the evil queen back; we've been down this road twice already in Seaons 1 and 2 and we still have the flashbacks which I thought was more than enough. Sadly her return turned out to be a useless gimmick, this version of the queen was really off; all she does is frak around But worst of all kinda a mary sue villain which is not what she's suppose to be, and I hate that because it's practically cheating.
Killing off the Oricle was I felt a huge shot in the foot, because here she had a trump card where she could of keep the Oricle in captivity and get steps ahead of the Storybrooke party by utilizing her powers. There also seemed to be some plot line with the identity of the Oricle so another opportunity lost.
Alright, I've got that out. Now lets get down to the good. In a way by it's nature this is all one big standard setter but it's a good one. I really liked seeing the Evil Queen finally getting what's coming to her, lets just say deserve has a double meaning. The fact that David was the one that took her down was kinda cool because that was something different.
Though I felt the way it was handled was kinda lame and too easy. It just felt like it should of been a more clever scheme may'be "Mission Impossible" style where may'be Hook, Aladdin and Jasimine have a hand in things (which is another bad thing about the episode both have nothing to do) by running some sort of interference or David and one of them retrieves the lamp.
However the highlight was seeing both Regina and Emma in some sort of artificial reality created inadvertently by Emma's wish. It's just really interesting and kinda funny seeing Emma as a non savior. I really liked Jennifer's performance she's sort of parodies on the princess archetype.
It was also funny seeing Regina put on the Evil Queen act just to get Emma to be herself again, a moment when Emma hands over the key to the kingdom Regina just tosses it away like a bad penny. We see the princess version of Emma is pacifistic and just a bit of a wimp which makes sense because she's a princess not a savior.
But we then see the artificial/alternate Henry come in (really like the Gold Armor almost reminds of the Gold Armor from the 80's film "Excalibur") to help Emma. I thought it was really touching moment despite Regina knowing this isn't the Henry where she comes from she couldn't use her powers against him all the same because it's still Henry; Henry throws the sword but Regina doesn't resist, it wasn't until the last moment that's when Emma comes though and uses her force powers to stop the sword. Emma awakens from this because she didn't want to see Henry go down a dark path. In a way you can also say Henry once again saved the day, their love for him is what saved both of them.
We then get a plenty surprise as we see there is someone else in this world as we then see some arrows fly, I knew exactly whose arrows they were. That's right Robin Hood is back, just seeing that I couldn't help but cheer because Robin is one of my favorite characters in the show it really teed me off when he was killed in Season 5 (another negative of that season). So all I can say is welcome back Robin.
And of the course the big reveal comes in the identity of the ring wrath character. And of course it was Gideon/Morphus, I wouldn't say it was much of a surprise if you remember in the dream sequences, Gideon had the same style hooded clothing but it was gold.
Once again have a cliffhanger, hopefully season 6b will be even better I'm thinking that may'be in all three realms the Storybroke party are going to gather allies in a war against an Army of Darkness. For Regina and Emma it's more fantasy characters or alternate versions of a few, for David and Hook it would be characters in the lost tales community we haven't seen yet, and Henry and Violet would journey to the fantasy realm in a Tardis like machine and get a few familiar faces but some new faces we have yet to see like He-Man, Telia, Lion O, Jason, Thor, Balendur, Horsus, Sinbad, etc. I know big order and risk but why the hell not they need it because at this point this show could be running out of magic.
