And the winner is... SPAIN!
PAULO-TEIXEIRA-19771 April 2020
Spanish directors have given a huge leap in the past 10/15 years in regards to movies, especially the Thriller genre. Hollywood has a steady rival in Spainwood!

Great photography, simple but extremely original and well developed plots, excellent actings and absolute tense moments make this, along with several other Spanish thrillers, a great and pleasurable movie to watch.

Not advancing much of the story, a family's daughter disappears and a stranger seems to be the lead to bring her home. However, things won't be as easy as they seem, and a lot of uncomfortable moments will pop out like popcorn, one after another. Yes! This movie intends to be uncomfortably macabre; on purpose. And while we'd swear never to agree with the scenes before us, we'd never knew we'd be so close to aprove them in the end! Worth a try for thriller lovers.

Everyone has secrets..

Very good plot and excellent performances. The soundtrack could have added another star, as well as photography. For those who like films that portray the reality, this is a must-see film. The end took away his last star .. 7/10 a movie to watch!

psychological torture of a family

Warning: Spoilers
I agree completely with kire1975. This was a kind of sadism porn. I felt sick seeing it, and dirty after leaving the theater because I had taken part in its showing by being in the audience. It was part of a film festival, and I'm amazed they showed it.

I'm not a prude either, and not usually judgmental at all. But this was a sick film, sick at its core. And not even that slick. I think I get the point - but the point is sick, too. What were they thinking?...

One of the best Spanish films in a long time
kafkiano-4620421 November 2017
It's been several days since I saw "Bajo la rosa" and I still can't get it out of my head. The film entrap you completely within an intriguing and disturbing plot at the same time, where actors shine in a state of grace. Especially Ramiro Blas.

The film begins with the kidnapping of a girl, but this element is only the excuse to question the life of a family in the most surprising ways, advancing in crescendo until reaching a cathartic ending. A masterpiece script.

Honestly, it has been a long time since a movie impacted me like that, plus being a debut and counting with only 4 actors and a house. Without a doubt, Josué Ramos is a director to follow.

Mean spirited, sexually motivated torture porn
funnyfaceking12 November 2017
Warning: Spoilers
The film festival I saw this at advertised as a "crime thriller." If it could be called that, it's only because that's the pretext to get a creepy man inside a family home where he can torture the father, rape the mother and molest the hell out of an underage son. And the filmmakers did it with such glee, I'm surprised nobody is reporting the main profile poster for depicting an underage model in a sexual situation. If I had known that this was going to be torture porn on the level of Human Centipede or A Serbian Film, I would have spared myself real trauma.

Don't get me wrong. I'm no prude. I hate censorship as much as anyone. But if somebody's going to show this somewhere, they should at least give a warning more than "sexual situation." Sex is different from rape, rape, rape all the way through this film. It makes no sense that it actually won an award somewhere.

Amazing
cannibalcorpse-2350322 November 2020

One of the best movies of the decade !
fcauneau6 April 2019
Sure, this is a chef d'oeuvre. The scenario is of a rare quality, and the actor's play deserves such a compliment. Bajo la Rosa is somewhere between "Theorem" of Pier Paolo Pasolini, and "Le charme discret de la bourgeoisie" of Luis Bunuel. Bajo la Rosa retrieves the complexity and the mastership of the times when great european masters were able to make true Art on screen. Besides the depicts of the lies that lurk behind a model family life, the author drives the characters toward a surrealistic level : the mysterious visitor of the night acts as the angel of Pasolini, and the familly members are progressively extracted from the daily reality to a nightmare that could be the gates of a Doomsday...
