Predictability...
ilklucg23430 March 2017
The black rain arrived. Bellamy tries to save a father and his son. Clarke considers a controversial way to save humanity. Octavia is trying to distract herself from her demons.

This episode was way too predictable for me unfortunately. I didn't enjoy Octavias story line that much, since I knew what was coming since the previous episode.

Bellamys story line was just filler. We were supposed to feel something, but because the emotional factor of the episode was relying on characters we never saw, it kind of fell flat for me.

The savior of this episode was actually Clarke and Abby contemplating on a way to save humanity even if it involves possibly killing someone else. That was very interesting. Especially the final scene was pretty powerful.

In the end, 7 stars thanks to Clarke, Abby and Emori. Other than that, it was a little disappointing.

Not Bad, Not Great

Warning: Spoilers
This episode wasn't terrible, but it wasn't one that is worth watching again. Other than a little more background into Emori's past and a possible solution to surviving Praimfaya, the story didn't progress much. Here are a few thoughts while I watched "Gimme Shelter".

  • I really like Ilian. I hope he becomes a recurring character.
  • Octavia is the world's fastest healer. So what if she was ran completely through with a sword and fell into a body of water from a height rivaling the top of the Grand Canyon? Barely a scar! Me, on the other hand, I am currently on the couch unable to move because I pulled a muscle putting on my socks. I obviously would not be included on Clarke's list.
  • All this talk about water shortage in the past. How about filling barrels with water from the tap inside that nice big mansion? I mean, there seems to be plenty of water there. Clarke took a nice long hot shower.
  • RIP Mark, Peter, and random falling dude. You will be missed. We have zero clue who you are, but you gave Bellamy yet another reason for him to blame himself for not being able to save anyone.
  • I commend Octavia and her newfound commitment to stop killing, but dumping the knives seems a little hasty. I mean, people are still always trying to kill her. Then again, she apparently can't be seriously hurt so I guess she doesn't need them.

Again, this could probably be considered a filler episode as not much really happened to progress the main storyline, but it definitely had its positive traits. Jasper not being in this episode was a plus. I honestly don't know why he's there. He has been nothing but an annoying drain on oxygen, only appearing to snark and whine about life sucking. He transitioned quickly from a beloved character to a useless one. I imagine he will be killed off soon. There is no reason for him to be there anymore. Kane has done a complete 180 from the first season, and his redemption has been satisfying. He is definitely one of my favorite characters. I don't think this season is as strong as the others, but it is still pretty thrilling to watch. I'm a fan.

A very quiet episode...
tenshi_ippikiookami19 April 2017
and nonetheless, an engrossing one.

Clarke and her mother have to take some difficult decisions. Bellamy is carrying a burden that no one asked him to. And Octavia has a human 'burden' of her own.

And the black rain is coming...

The episode is a very slow one, moody, with a very good atmosphere, that centers on the development of the characters and in giving them (and us) time to breathe and reflect on what has been going on till now. As Bellamy, Bob Morley again shines, but it is becoming a little bit repetitive having him all the time struggling with decisions of life and death. Emori also has her own moment, and her relationship with Murphy keeps developing in very interesting ways. Less fulfilling is Octavia's side quest to find herself, but the episode never gets boring. With characters as interesting as "The 100" has to offer, it is difficult to fail. "Gimme Shelter" delivers.

Emori had a smart plan. But in Episode 8 it took a bad turn. I respect that but those scenes were cringy.

In the 100, there always JUST HAS to be something wrong!
Neptune1653 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This house was Ali's house remember at the very beginning of the season when Murphy finally got released from that bunker this is the same house. Bellamy still told Kane you can't save someone who doesn't want to be saved referring to his resentment of Kane for Floating his Mom. Amory's move was evil and brilliant. Murphy is appressed and in (actual) awe. As in wow I'd bettercstay on her sweet side. Bellamy did is just what he would do any other day. That's just who he is he feels the need to take responsibility and take care if his people. Even if what he did last season was horrible if that never happened Bellamy would still want to try and save everyone. Not just to make amens but to be the hero he always is. I was really surprised with Murphy's reaction to Emori at the end, but I quite liked his line, 'That's a survivors move' I thought about that the guy actually isn't the guy who hurt Emori since he ran into her and he had no clue. So for me, it was obviously and I hate Emori a bit for that. For me, she's egoistic (not only in this moment, but the whole time she was on scene. But I guess that's the way she survived until now...so at least that's realistic for the character)

Bellamy & Caine storyline
Neptune1653 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I liked how Caines goodwill got thrown back at him. You can't save someone who doesn't want to be saved. Bellamy doesn't wanna be saved. I agree with both of you on the Octavia mess. It was sudden and forced. I could see it going this way but this was way too fast. O needs some love. Btw it was bone marrow they used to inject the poor dude Emori sold out. Remember the mountain men and how they stayed alive. Staying alive is the important thing according to Clarke. Anyhow they have one persons bone marrow to save a whole lot of people, good luck Luna. If Raven need to take it easy now; what will happen to Abby when she kicks into find-a-cure-mode. She's already shaking. I do feel that one of the reason why Abby was so reluctant to use that idea is because that's exactly what the Mountain men did to the 100. They needed the 100's bone marrow in order to be able to go outside the bunker and survive the radiation, so they drilled the 100 against their will, tortured them. The Mountain men did this to survive, but in the eyes of Skycrew, they were the bad guys. So now Abby would basically have to do the exact same thing as the ''Bad guys'' of season 2 and for the same reasoIt astonishes me how many people don't see Bellamy's heroic nature. The selflessness, the humility. 4x07 was just another sneak peek into how little he cares for himself, and how quick he is to act the second it's about somebody else. Not to mention Mark was with his son, and for Bellamy to hear them dying over the radio and not be able to do anything is a proper metaphor for his relationship with Octavia currently. It was not a redemption arc, wtf??? It is Bellamy finally breaking down at his inability to protect others. Octavia. Gina. His mother. The kids from the Dropship, some of the 48 from Mount Weather. The people who trusted him from Mount Weather. It all ebbs and flows into this one floating sense of failure he can never shake. For someone who has been living with the mantra 'my sister, my responsibility' all his life, his desire to protect and save is super amplified, super extreme. It's who he has always been and it has nothing to do with his 'redemption',n, so it's a little harder to justify morally in her eyes I think.

RUUUUUUUUUN

Warning: Spoilers
Wow came to this episode page because I could of swore I heard Jim James from My Morning Jacket singing in the background. Glad that to see I was right. I think this is a great episode because of the acid rain. I love the irony of human's affect on the planet coming back to attack innocent humans in return. "There's too many people on this Earth. We need a new plague." - Dwight Schrute

Warning! Warning!! ⛔ Filler episode detected⛔
Abdulxoxo13 August 2020
Who is Peter? Who is the Father? Who is Baylis? Who is the black rain guy? They introduced these new characters just to killed them or use them as a factor for the main characters development.

They use Baylis as a lab rat, nothing they say will justify this.

Harper and Bellamy feeling guilty for something that's entirely not their fault.

Raven is missing just like Abby was missing in the last episode lol

Slow.
ououzaza25 March 2020
The slow pace makes me boring. The story seems to not going anywhere. Like they're focusing on a small task. And another funny thing is like, everybody like try to think of a clever word to tell other people.
