Zombie Apocalypse

Warning: Spoilers
Really good episode, not good enough for a 9 or 10 but an 8 is reasonable. Season 3 is an Amazing season till now, Season 4 has to be a big season for Fear the Walking Dead. Some good zombie action and the tragic death of Jake Otto.

Stupid characters, AGAIN

Warning: Spoilers
Really good episode and classic walking dead feel! However it is beyond me how unlikeable most characters are and how stupid they are made out to be! For those who've watched the episode why is Nick so against the killing of Troy to the fact of practically killing Jake who has the right state of mind and who is his sisters boyfriend. How on earth does that make sense?

Troy is Back & The Zombies Attack
panagiotis199320 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Troy is back, oh yeah. The whole intro with Troy was awesome. So no more cattle? That's bad. Jake wants to leave with Alicia? Didn't expect that. Alicia you don't smoke, why start now. Troy is back at the ranch and full of vengeance? Im all in. When things get hard Jake just wanna leave his people behind? What a coward. Jake is getting more and more paranoid. Does Troy want to lead the zombies back to the ranch? That's gruesome man. Why would Nick protect Troy? Makes no sense. Nick is responsible that Jake lost his hand and for his death, him and his dumb decisions. Jake didn't deserve to die like this. It will be very sad when Victor, Madison and Walker come back to see all the chaos. Really amazing and intense episode, my rating is 8.4/10.

This series has found it's footing!
xxxNomadicxxx25 September 2017
After a rough and dull first season, this series is actually picking up a blazing pace with a very interesting story line. They got rid of a few characters, changed directions, and is very well on it's way of being better than the Walking Dead itself. This season alone, I haven't seen an episode that is not worth watching twice. They have no problem sacrificing main characters to satisfy the audience blood lust. With that being said, TWD needs to take notes or find and see why the spin off is doing better than the main show.

Brother's Keeper is a brilliantly acted, suspenseful and a memorable episode
Holt3444 October 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Last episode was focused on Madison, Strand and Walker as they went to secure a deal with the leadership of the Dam and the reunion of Daniel and Madison was one of the many highlights. This episode shows what happened at the ranch when they were out making a deal to save their people, and the events that follows are amazing, seriously some great drama. The episode begins with Troy, one of sons of the now deceased Jeremiah Sr, Troy is exiled and for me he's an interesting enough character and a great actor that could hold his own episode, but this episode has all the characters who lives in the Ranch.

Alrick Riley directed this episode and he sure is talented, the camera work is great and the shots are beautiful. Take the camera work and mix that with the beautiful scenery makes for some memorable shots. Cinematography was amazing. The musical score is as always suspenseful and fitting to the show, I just came to a realization that I believe that the sound editing is actually the best of any of the TWD shows, I might be wrong but it's amazing and everything sounds realistic. There were bunch of action, zombies and suspenseful moments in this movie. The horde is upon them and I want to add from a storytelling perspective, it's realistic that the horse is coming as there have been so much gunfire and other loud noises near that ranch.

The supporting cast and characters get more screen time in this episode, which ultimately gives more life to the community at the ranch. Crazy Dog is the supporting character that really shines throughout the episode as Walker isn't there and it is always fun to see supporting actors get more screen time and be able to give great performances. Alycia Debnam-Carey, Frank Dillane, Daniel Sharman and Sam Underwood were all great in this episode, really giving their all into the role of their respective characters. This is also the episode that made Alicia become my favorite character of the whole show, as she is a bad ass and super likeable.

Now for the spoiler part of my review, Troy. All the bad things that happens in this episode is him, indirectly. He's the true villain of this season, but it's also sad because he's a broken person, a man that never really got the help he needed. So all hell breaks loose, and Nick does something stupid but I can't blame him he have grown fond of Troy and sees him like a brother so of course he would defend him from Jake, but he died. He got bit and bled out after they chopped his arm off. This is some incredible writing and storytelling as the consequences this will have, Alicia lost another person she loved which was indirectly caused by her own brother. The world they live in is harsh, but it's entertaining for us viewers and for writers a great way for them to write fantastic stories like Dave Erickson did with his 3 season run of Fear The Walking Dead.

"Brother's Keeper" Is A Brilliant Hour Of Television
lunasnowhehe10 June 2021
The 3rd season of Fear The Walking Dead continues to get better and better, it's rather impressive how good this season is.

We see how the actions of a certain character in this episode can lead to total destruction and cause a spin on the rest of the season.

10/10.

Will never be as good as The Walking Dead
Dunnyy28 September 2017
The show is good, yes, but to those saying that it's better than The Walking Dead, or could be better than The Walking Dead, are just acting really silly. This episode was really good but it's basically a re- enactment of TWD's No Way Out episode. This show tends to copy a lot of things from The Walking Dead, but does it worse. I hope they go out of Mexico at one point and go to somewhere like Colorado. Would be cool to see, hell even somewhere up North where it snows would be a nice change of scenery.

The emotional crux of the episode is the complex relationship between the Otto brothers
fernandoschiavi17 April 2024
Troy lives off the land while continuing to write in his journal. He finds a grenade launcher and is inspired to gather the Walkers. He warns Nick that the ranch will be destroyed. Nick and Jake find him and that he intends to use the launcher to drive the herd to the ranch. He fires and Jake holds Troy at gunpoint but hesitates on learning that Nick killed their father and Alicia kept it secret. Jake is bitten and dies following an amputation.

The Nation and the ranchers build a wall of trailers and RVs is hoped to turn the herd but if fails and they all evacuate to the bunker-like pantry.

The twelfth episode of "Fear the Walking Dead" Season 3, titled "Brother's Keeper," offers a profound exploration of familial bonds, sacrifice, and the devastating impact of isolation in a post-apocalyptic world. This episode centers around the character of Troy Otto and his spiraling descent into madness, which serves as the catalyst for one of the season's most intense and heart-wrenching conflicts.

At the outset, "Brother's Keeper" revisits Troy, exiled and alone, struggling with the demons of his past and the harsh realities of his present. His loneliness and mental instability are palpable, evoking a sense of impending doom. The episode cleverly builds suspense as viewers witness Troy's transformation from a solitary figure into a force of chaos. He orchestrates a massive walker attack on the Broke Jaw Ranch by leading a horde towards it, a desperate and twisted attempt to reclaim some semblance of control or perhaps to punish those he feels have wronged him.

The emotional crux of the episode is the complex relationship between the Otto brothers. Jake's attempts to reason with Troy and bring him back from the brink highlight the theme of brotherly duty versus moral responsibility. Their confrontation on the hilltop, overlooking the approaching horde, is both tense and poignant, emphasizing the tragic disconnect between Troy's unhinged motivations and Jake's desperate hope for redemption. This culminates in a shocking moment when Jake is bitten, forcing Alicia to amputate his arm in a futile attempt to save him-a scene that is graphic, distressing, and a stark representation of the brutal choices that characters must make to survive.

The final act of "Brother's Keeper" sees the ranch's defenses overwhelmed by the walker horde, leading to a chaotic and desperate battle for survival. This sequence is not only gripping but also showcases the culmination of the community's internal divisions and the external threats they face. Alicia's leadership during the crisis, her decisive actions to protect the community, and her ultimate realization of the futility of their situation are powerfully portrayed, marking significant character growth and setting the stage for future challenges.

Warning: Spoilers
3x12 Rating: 9.1/10

Storyline: Newly exiled Troy survives in the wasteland. He kills a rattlesnake and cooks it over a campfire. Then writes in his journal.

Troy walks to the outpost formerly manned by Phil, who was scalped by Walker. Flies buzz around Phil's body in the chair where Walker left him dead.

Troy finds canned food in the outpost barn. He goes to the main building and retrieves a grenade launcher from a secret compartment.

He buries Phil, alone.

The next morning, Troy considers killing himself with the single bullet Walker left him. Something in the distance catches his attention. He smiles and shoots his gun into the air. The sounds of infected begin to grow.

Nick, Crazy Dog and Coop kill infected on the ranch perimeter. Nick says their cattle draw the infected to the ranch. He begins killing the cows.

Jake mourns the downfall of his family legacy and suggests he and Alicia escape to a cabin near the border. She insists that they're lucky to be living at the ranch.

Ofelia and Crazy Dog discuss ranch leadership and agree that Nick has become the de-facto leader of the ranchers.

Nick tells Alicia that he feels conflicted about killing Otto and that he's worried about Madison and Troy. Alicia realizes that Nick is beginning to identify with Troy.

Nick wakes up in the middle of the night and finds Troy in the house. Troy tells Nick that there's a "reckoning at hand" and warns that the entire ranch is about to be destroyed. He locks Nick on the balcony and says that he wants Jake to witness the reckoning. Nick escapes the balcony, but Troy has already left.

Jake tells Alicia that they may not be able to maintain the water supply, despite Madison's efforts. When Alicia refuses to run away with him, he accuses her of sleeping with him to help her family take leadership of the ranch. Alicia, surprised and angry, denies the accusation.

Nick arrives and informs Jake and Alicia that Troy came to the ranch to warn them that something was about to happen. Jake guesses that Troy went to Phil's outpost. He heads out to find his brother, joined by Nick. Alicia gives Jake a walkie.

On the road, Nick tells Jake that Troy might be trying to warn them of danger, not harm them. Jake disagrees and says that Troy is sick and he won't get better. They are alarmed when they spot an enormous dust cloud in the distance.

Nick and Jake get out of the truck. Nick radios Alicia and warns her about the massive horde of infected approaching the ranch. Jake points out that they still have time to draw the horde away from the ranch. A grenade explodes nearby. The noise draws the horde toward the ranch, foiling Jake's plan. They see Troy with the grenade launcher.

Alicia tells Ofelia that Nick and Jake spotted a horde. When Ofelia prods, she admits that Troy came to the ranch to warn them.

Nick tries to dissuade Troy from firing another grenade. Troy explains that he's been leading the horde on foot for two days. Jake levels his gun at Troy and orders him to drop the grenade launcher. Instead, Troy shoots. Jake tackles him.

Everyone at the ranch hears the grenade explode.

Jake punches Troy and tells Nick to evacuate their home. Troy reveals to Jake that Nick killed Otto and proposes that he and Jake commit suicide together. Nick knocks Jake down before he can shoot Troy. Jake rolls down a hill.

Alicia, Ofelia, Crazy Dog and Coop spot the horde approaching the ranch. They decide to stay and defend the place rather than flee.

An infected attacks Jake and bites him. Nick hacks off Jake's arm to prevent infection.

Alicia, Ofelia, Coop and Crazy Dog meet in the pantry. Coop points out that everyone should have guns to fight the infected. Crazy Dog reluctantly hands the armory keys to Ofelia so that everyone can arm themselves.

Troy cradles Jake as Nick drives the truck back toward the ranch. The horde closes in.

Alicia and Crazy Dog create a blockade of RVs inside the ranch. As the horde approaches, the ranchers hide behind the blockade.

The horde arrives at the gate and breaks through it.

Nick watches the ranch through binoculars.

The RVs begin to shake as the horde passes on the other side. Ranchers and Nation members kill infected as they crawl underneath the RVs.

Troy sits beside Jake's dead body. Nick orders Troy to kill Jake before he turns. Troy tells Nick that he only wanted Jake to see what he did for them. Nick grabs Troy and forces him to look at the destruction he brought to the ranch. He tries to radio Alicia but gets no response. Troy asks Nick to kill him. Nick dismissively gives him a gun and tells Troy to do it himself.

Infected try to squeeze in between the RVs. The RVs start to topple over. Alicia orders everyone to flee to the pantry.

Nick watches helplessly as the RV blockade goes down.

The horde attacks ranchers and Nation members as Alicia, Coop and Ofelia fight them off. Ofelia urges Alicia to lead everyone to the pantry. Coop is caught and devoured by the infected. He tries to shoot himself in the head but runs out of bullets. Alicia shoots him with her gun.

Jake begins to turn. Troy holds him down.

Alicia, Ofelia and Crazy Dog fight off infected and make their way into the pantry. Blake shuts the doors behind them.

Troy stabs Jake through the head. "I need some sleep," he realizes. Nick says they must try and save everyone. He looks down at the ranch and sees it's completely overrun with infected.

The survivors hide in the pantry as the horde pounds on the doors.

Maddeningly Stupid Characters
mojoguzzi-879-6849825 September 2017
Warning: Spoilers
WARNING!! SPOILERS!!!!!

I'll agree up front that the show has greatly improved since season one, at least as far as the zombies go. For that reason I've given it two stars more than I feel it deserves, based on the resources available to the producers and how they are squandered on bad storytelling with a total lack of regard for morality or logic.

It's a testament to the draw of the zombie genre that I keep tuning in week after week to this train wreck, despite how much I hate the main characters and their non-stop idiotic actions. Whenever any situation on the show seems to have reached a critical point, you can rest assured that either Madison or Nick Clark will find a way to make it even worse and get some more innocent people killed.

The Brothers Keeper episode took that annoyance to a new level. Not only does Nick sacrifice the life of one of the few refreshingly likable characters on the show, he does so in order to save the life of a total psychotic lunatic who clearly deserves to be killed for the safety of the entire community.

And stupider on a grand scale, after the psycho loonie lures a horde of zombies to attack the ranch by using loud noises, it never occurs to Nick to attempt to change the horde's direction by honking the horn of the pick-up truck or using the loonie's loud gun that he's confiscated to lead them away. Instead he chooses to pout and glower and suggest that the loonie he just saved by sacrificing another life, now kill himself.

There was an attempt early in the season to rationalize Madison's cold-hearted disregard for the innocent lives she routinely sacrifices to give her family some slight edge for survival, but there's no reason for the audience to value the Clark family over the disposable characters left dead in their wake, except for daughter Alicia. And the way the writers of this show love their despicable characters, I suspect that Alicia will be gone before long, probably pushed by Madison into a throng of ravenous zombies to save herself or Nick.

Can't wait for The Walking Dead to return.

Series getting better, believability (in TWD universe) is an issue in this episode.
AnnaPlummer29 October 2017
Troy's psychosis, hate for his father, and exile from the ranch leads him to put everyone in danger. Nick, Alicia, and Jake attempt to save the ranch while Madison is away looking for water.

The beginning of the story starts out with Troy surviving in the wasteland, but just when he is ready to give up, he sees a horde of walkers and decides to lead them towards the ranch with explosions made with supplies he found at another homestead. I have a tough time believing that Madison and Taqa thought it was a good idea to exile him in the previous episode, especially when they didn't take him very far and knowing how dangerous and mentally unstable he is. Part of good storytelling is that the actions of the characters have to be believable in their universe. Even if I had never knew about the lessons learned in TWD about the dangers of exiling someone, I would still believe that Madison and Taqa should have known better, it's obvious, especially with someone like Troy.

Troy sneaks back to the ranch at dark, and tells Nick that something big is coming and that he wants Jake to see. Nick waits until morning to tell Jake, and Jake has a good idea of where Troy might be, so they go to look for him. Before finding him, they see a huge dust cloud from the horde of walkers that Troy has put on a path towards the ranch. They see him shooting an explosive, guiding the horde, and confront him. Jake knows he will never change, but Nick wants to talk to him instead due to his guilt and empathy for Troy, as he wrongly thinks that he and Troy are a lot alike.

This is when the writing gets really sloppy - when Jake is getting ready to kill his brother, Nick kicks Jake away, down a hill, where he gets bit by a walker. I can believe that Nick tried to prevent Jake from killing Troy, but when he gets bit by a walker in the arm, Nick gets a machete ready to cut off his arm, but before taking action, he wastes time asking Troy how long it will take for the infection to set in, and Troy doesn't answer so he keeps wasting more time asking- this is not believable, because if Nick knows enough that cutting off his arm could save him, then why ask about how long it will take? What's the point? To remind the audience that Troy did research on this stuff? Then awhile later Jake dies, and turns due to Troy waiting to put a knife in his head, and I have no idea why Nick wouldn't do it, I guess because he thought it was family who should do that. But if Nick thinks this way, then why did he butt in and stop Jake from killing Troy beforehand? Like I said, sloppy writing. Also, it's hard to believe the show killed Jake off, and even more so due to the fact that before writing this review, I have seen the following episodes which leads me to believe that Jake was just a throw away character.

The writing gets worse, when the horde reaches the ranch. If you have seen TWD, then you know what I mean. And I'm taking into consideration the fact that I know more than FTWD characters do because I've seen TWD. Out of all the residents at the ranch, even the 'soldiers', not one of them thought to try shooting guns to guide the horde away. They did have the good idea to line up the RV's, like Rick's group did in Alexandria, but they all just stood behind the wall of RV's with their guns in their hands. You'd think that the writers would at least add a variation to this scene. And everyone followed Alicia's instructions to go to the storage room / cellar, not one person freaked out and tried to run away like you'd think they would because these people at the ranch, except for the 'soldiers', have not had to deal with many walkers at all, especially a herd. Then inside the storage room, everyone was just too calm, especially for people who have never seen a huge herd of walkers.

This series is getting much better, and I do not want to see it go downhill like TWD did. It has so much potential, and it's disappointing to see the storytelling, plot, and character continuity suffer.
