Not good enough
GomezAddams66620 July 2018
There is absolutely no doubt that this film took inspiration from classic genre/horros films like Meir Zarchi's I Spit On Your Grave. Say what you will about those movies but they were pioneers of a genre that made us feel the real terror of the evils of humanity. This movie? Not so much.

The movie takes place on Crystal Lake, tho it is never explained if we are talking about THE Crystal Lake where Jason Voorhees call home. But it has a basic plot of a group of very annoying young adults going for a weekend getaway that would have gone smoothly until some of them decided to take advantage of a shy girl and stupidly think they would suffer no consequences.

The acting is bad, the movie is predictable, it re-hashes a genre that has been forgotten and instead of bringing it back it actually helps bury it a little more.

The direction is all over the place, and even some supposed surprises are moot at the end because the inept director fails to make us care about the characters.

This has to be one of the worst horror movies I have ever seen in my entire life.

I have no words

This is the worst movie I have ever seen. How on earth did this make its way into Netflix? It was probably some film-student project... Nope, not even going to try and justify it. Don't watch it. Just don't.

One of the worst films I've seen.

First of all, the production of the film is very, very poor. Looks like a bad school project. The plot is unsubstantial and unjustified, the acting is lousy. Special effects makeup is unbelievable. Not only a terrible horror film, but one of the worst movies I have ever seen.

Awwwwful.

This movie sucks. It is awful in every aspect of movie making, from acting and script, to plot and setting. You could spend 114 minutes or so staring at your living room wall and feel more entertained.

Ugh. So bad

Warning: Spoilers
Pros - decent cinematography. There were some pretty and artful shots. Although this is not the genre you would expect to see pretty cinematography.

Cons - literally everything else. Spoilers abound, but don't worry, you won't miss anything by having it spoiled.

The opening scene killed it. Worst detective ever. I get that the girl is in shock, but come on with that interview technique. I almost turned it off right then and there for the bad acting/script.

Then the car ride. Instantly I dislike these idiots. They were all annoying, self centered, and dumb. None of the dialogue moved the story forward at all. Except maybe Diego saying Romina is his best friend. That pretty much kills the "twist" at the end.

For another half hour basically nothing happens. The kids are annoying. Dialogue makes no sense. Acting sucks. Romina prances around naked. There's a ridiculous rape scene. More bad acting. Virtually no storyline.

It's pretty obvious from early on that Romina intends to go on a murderous rampage. She's super manipulative. Not that she deserves to be raped, obviously, but they make no effort to paint her as a sympathetic vigilante, a la I Spit on Your Grave. Instead they make it pretty clear that she's up to no good. The rape, quite frankly, doesn't have anything to do with the story. I get the impression she would have killed everyone even if she hadn't been raped.

Finally we get to the carnage. There's no logical progression from point a to point b. All you see is people running around being idiots in one scene, and then they're somehow tied up and bloody in the next scene. Not that I have to see gore, but this is seriously weak sauce. Speaking of, the special effects are laughable.

Finally, the twist. Like I said, they basically give it away during the car ride, so it's not really a twist at all.

And there's literally no explanation for the carnage. "They all deserved it. Even Ximena." I guess we'll have to take your word for it because literally nothing in the storyline explains how anyone other than the rapists deserved anything. Unless you count being annoying and bitchy as deserving of murder, I guess.

One of the worst movies EVER!
btchwithanattitude29 July 2018
I'm not even going to bother to go into details. This movie is a waste of time. No plot, flat and boring characters, lousy acting, the camera focus is all over the place...! Just do yourself a favor and do not watch this movie. Go take a walk instead or sit and stare at the ceiling instead, it will be far more entertaining.

Trying to be something it's not.

I have seen A LOT of horror films. It's definitely my favourite genre. I have come to expect mediocre things from Netflix produced horror and this was no different. It's going for your typical slasher in the woods type flick but spends too much time on atmospheric water shots and synth music and not enough actual character development. It's reminiscent of I Spit on Your Grave but if it were written in like 10 minutes. The opening sequence drew me in with its unusual cinematography but kicked me right back out again with its' lackluster plot and one dimensional characters. All in all, lame.

Deceptively Decent
wechor-998236 September 2020
There are tons of unwatchable movies out there. You know it as soon as you see it. A few minutes pass and for whatever reason (bad acting, no suspension of disbelief, low production value), you turn it off after a few minutes (or seconds). Here, you keep watching. The cinematography punches above its weight. The insidiousness of this movie is that the characters are portrayed so matter-of-factly the authenticity of their actions isn't an issue, it's why.

Give it a shot. You may feel compelled to keep watching to the end, and then say WTH!

Romina review - CONTAINS SPOILERS
coatesgal15 August 2018
Warning: Spoilers
A sadly dull entry into the slasher horror universe, yet it is thankfully short. The premise of the movie is simple and not very original - a group of teenagers head towards the lake for a camping trip. It's never going to end well is it?

We open with Romina, a young innocent looking girl, in the process of being questioned by a forensic psychiatrist. He has been tasked by the courts to determine her role in a horrendous multiple homicide - is she a victim, participant or witness?

We then cut to a car filled with over-sexed teenagers, heading for a camping trip to an idealistic lakeside (Crystal Lake if Netflix's subtitles are to be trusted - my Spanish is all but non existent) for a weekend of sex, drinking and stupidity.

Romina, coincidentally, is also at the lake. She is seen stripping down and then swimming naked, unknowingly (or so we are meant to believe) being watched from the treeline by one, and later two, of our idiotic teenagers. She is later assaulted in her tent by the same two boys, and then the following morning, seemingly embarks on a solo killing spree. Taking revenge on her attackers, as well as (almost) everyone else whether they were involved in her ordeal or not.

We don't really see any of the violence, just the aftermath. I suspect this was to avoid a higher rating for the movie. There is nothing overly graphic within this film, some mild sexual language, moderate nudity and implied sexual assault. No on screen death, just moderately graphic images of the victims afterwards.

I can't decide whether it was poor acting, writing, directing or all of the above. It is plainly obvious from the initial naked swim right through to the assault, that she is the 'honey trap' for our unsuspecting idiots. This ruins what could have been a nice little twist at the end of the movie. I am going to assume that we as the viewer, were meant to believe that she is this poor innocent girl, brutally attacked, and then driven to revenge. I cannot see how anyone could believe this, it's far too 'in your face' obvious that it's a set up.

None of the characters are even a tiny bit likable, it's difficult to garner any form of sympathy for them.

Sadly, this is a very unconvincing and even more disappointing film. With the very slow start (nearly an hour in before anything notable even happens), I was hopeful of a big exciting finish to make up for it. I was left extremely unsatisfied.

From the synopsis I had high hopes. Yes, it's very samey, the usual plot involving kids heading into the woods etc etc, violence ensues. A lot of the time, that works, just not on this occasion.

This could have been really good.. and if you fancy a good slasher film set at Crystal Lake, well you know what to do.

My rating 1/5. Give it a miss, Love Island would be a more interesting watch than this.

Welp.... if nothing else, at least it's a small comfort to know that drunk, over-sexed teens around the world getting slaughtered in the woods in the dumbest of ways are every bit as stupidly obnoxious as their American counterparts.

Chaotic
An interesting theme drowns in grotesque murders, objectification and long, nonsense conversations.

I wish I had more words to explain the movie, but it's just too bizarre.

This movie literally stars no where and goes no where. Directing is bad, story is bad, acting is bad. Horrible shaky camera shots for no reason. Don't even get me started on the ****ing dusting movie score. What even was that. This isn't even funny bad, it's just bad.

Oddly enough, I watched it all the way through and did not think it is horrible
HumbleMensa21 July 2018
This movie is weird, at times slow, but the way I rate the viewing impact of lower budget horror flicks is if it makes me either cover my ears or eyes, or I turn down the sound a couple of times - which this movie I did all three several times. Now, that being said --it is definitey amateur in production and directing, and the story is so obvious ---but it is creepy and absurd. It is not a psychological thriller and neither is it on par with other classic horrors---but it kept me watching.

Mediocre, Amateurish, Unwatchable
rodrigoalderete16 July 2018
Why the story was developed in Crystal Lake? Isn´t that the name of the lake in Friday The 13th? I think plagiarism. The production is so bad, an elementary school student could done a better job. There was no plot, no story, no smart dialogues, just a bunch of cursing all movie long and childlish behaviour instead. This is a cheap attemp of film making.
