BRILLIANT!! One of my favourite shows on tv!!
lee_other11 October 2018
Warning: Spoilers
The writing and acting is well above par and even if they weren't (but they truly were) the eye candy of the beautiful Cillian Murphy, Tom Hardy and Paul Anderson would still have me hooked every episode! Not forgetting Aiden Gillen. Love, love, LOVE IT!! And gotta give praise to Aunt Poll (the amazing Helen McCrory) and her brilliant acting skills as the sort of matriarch of the family. I don't think they've killed off Alfie Solomans just yet. The bullet sliced along the side of his face. So I'm pretty sure he'll make a comeback at some point

Gasp!
maximovlE5 August 2021
I never gasp at anything. I'm an old star trek fan. Thanks to many hours of the purest of sci-fi, I learned a long time ago not to trust anything on screen, because they always have a way of cheating us viewers. There's always a way to fool us and completely undo something that we believe has been set in stone. I nearly always catch the twists way before they happen.

I never saw THAT coming!

I knew something was coming, but I didn't see that.

No idea why I'm so late to the Peaky Blinders family, but damn I'm glad I'm here now.

Yes. I gasped!!!

I gasped. I never gasp.

Peaky Freakin Blinders

Warning: Spoilers
I just have to say that when Arthur "died" it felt like I had lost the earth from under me. It was as if a member of my family had died right then and there and the scene of his comeback was such an awarding moment. I think I've never shouted so loud as when Arthur came and put a bullet through Luca. "You don't f with the Peaky Blinders"

Awesome Season. Some things didn't make sense
savvas-kontos9522 December 2017
Warning: Spoilers
An awesome Peaky Blinders season just ended. Overall was great, at least until the episode where Thomas meet with Lucas it seemed to be the best season ever. But some things were lazy or didn't make sense to me.

1) We see Lucas Changretta meeting Thomas in an epic scene, showing how powerful his organisation is compared to peaky blinders, telling him that he will kill everyone and will leave him last to suffer more. 2 episodes after he makes a deal with Poly to spare 2 people of his "hit list" in exchange for Thomas. Zero sense to me.

2) Last think is the resurrect of Arthur. I don't find it really bad writing, more likely just show Thomas clever plans. But Luca seemed to be a very big fish, and only taking john (1 of his hit list) seems kinda easy. They built the fear of the black hand on the first episodes really good but they didn't delivered. Also the scene where Luca dies is also kinda way easy. Betrayed by his own men. Someone like him should be more careful. Although again I can accept that because he didn't know Thomas had contacted his rivals in New York.

Overall great season, but some things needed some more thought.

Usually I expect a situation turnover, but this time it took me by surprise. This episode was incredibly thrilling, engaging and had the perfect twist at the end.

Pretty great show, except...
cpanella18 July 2020
As big a fan as I am of the show, the writing, the acting, the sets, etc...and also being a fan of Adrien Brody: the whole Luca Changretta character really is almost insulting to Robert De Niro and his portrayal of young Vito Corleone in Godfather Part II. Doesn't even bother to try and not look like a cheap imitation, right down to the toothpick, the mumbling, etc. etc. Makes it really hard to take his scenes seriously, and continue to suspend disbelief. Very incongruent, considering how well everything else is done...

A little confused
s_e_p_i_d_e_h24 January 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Someone else here mentioned it seems the writers were under pressure to condense material written for further episodes all into this one episode. I completely agree but its not an excuse because there was time, and the editing is simply poor. The plot is brilliant with plenty of great scenes which everyone else here has mentioned so I will not go over them but unfortunately the brilliant plot is somewhat tarnished by confusion in a very rushed Tommy plan and not enough from the brilliant Luca Changretta before his death. So Tommy formulated a plan and waited exactly how long for Mrs Changretta to initiate the vendetta arrangement??? I'm confused. The Michael story with him being told he was being sent to America as punishment after they had already interacted with him in previous scenes with no consequences previously discussed ,?? All of this could have been played out better without pointless scenes of Tommy being on holiday and Tom Hardy's wife getting really boring airtime and Tommy coming down with a mystery illness whilst on holiday etc . better editing next time please.

Disappointing
nsivaloganathan7 November 2019
Warning: Spoilers
The title says it all. Huge fan of the show, though I got into it late. There is one more season currently out on Netflix but I'm not sure I will be watching it. I just finished season 4 and honestly episode 5 felt more like a finale than episode 6 this. What did Adrian Brody do to deserve such a death scene? How much more obvious could you make Arthur's non-death? It was embarrassing. Rushed, lazy and ultimately disappointing. Such a great build up, such a great fall. Shame.

Brody unwatchable
jdeangelus21 April 2019
Was so glad this season ended. Brody made it almost unwatchable with his ham handed caricature of an italian mobster. Did they tell him to watch every Jimmy Cagney movie from the 30s and simply repeat? What were the producers thinking??

Anti-Climatic
pokharshini29 May 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Needless to say the episode is a masterclass from a cinematic point of view as Peaky Blinders has always been. With no fail the writer again succeeds in getting the audience to the edge of their seats. However,

1. Luka deserved a better departure, the whole sequence was anti climatic. 2. Aunt Pol betrayed Thomas, an issue that went entirely unaddressed. 3. Did Aberama Gold come only to see his son become a boxer? A line of story that went unaddressed. 4. Alfie Solomons deserved a better departure. 5. Arthur's fake death was very easy to spot out. 6. Eden fell for Thomas, and is not his nemesis. Weak character development. 7. Thomas picking up a position in the government is hard to swallow.

Hope these things are addressed in the subsequent season, if there is one.

Good finish to a good season
astext21 March 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I wasn't as impressed with Season 3 as I was with S4, which I have just finished watching.

The times are getting more modern - you see more electricity being used, more vehicles etc.

I could be very wrong, but I finally heard some period music on the 78 player - Blackbird - the season is set in 1926, the year the song was published - when Tommy entertains his union organiser mistress to be at the factory.

Adrian Body as Luca Changretti - what a brilliant, totally on role performance!

Loved it, looking forward to the next season.

I'm so glad this season...
taraangel-409605 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I left this season to watch until today. I binged it as I do most of my favorite shows. I was so happy to see the end of Luca Changretta. Adrien Brody was terrible in this part! I've liked him since 'The Pianist' but he was not believable, almost laughable, as an Italian-American mobster. Every episode he was in I'd think to myself, 'Please someone shoot Luca!' I'm hoping season 5 is as good as the first 3, season 4 was a letdown to me.

I wouldn't be mad if this was the series finale. It was just so perfect
Neptune16528 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
And like that, we lost the ONLY respectable villain of the Peaky Blinders. Luca had the most justifiable reason to go after them, and never once just targeted the kids or civilians working for Tommy. Alfie is an excellent foil for Tommy. Even though Alfie has double crossed Tommy more than once I know he actually admires Tommy. I think Tommy respects Alfie as well. Even during the beach scene I can see the respect. Tom Hardy and Cillian Murphy balance out each other in terms of acting. I honestly wished Peaky Blinders ended here because when you think about it, most of the loose ends were all tied up & everyone got a happy ending, which is evident in the final scene, at this point in the story. Don't get me wrong, next two seasons are great but this would've been a satisfactory capper to an already amazing show!

This is without any doubt the best epsiode and seasonfinale of the series. Its intence and exiting from start to finish. Sadly we lost two of the best characters of the show. Hopefully next season will match this season.

Let down to a so far brilliant series
edwardalley8 August 2018
Warning: Spoilers
The season so far had been brilliant, with a genuinely threatening villain in Adrien Brody. This was demonstrated in the early, shocking death of John.

This episode started well delivering another shock in the death of Arthur leaving viewers broken. But this was all undone in the final 20-30 minutes of the episode which were too hectic and contained too much action and information in the space of time provided. Arthur was back, Adrien Brody's character was not given the end that he deserved and within ten minutes they had dispatched one of the series biggest strengths (Tom Hardy's marvellous Alfie Solomons). This send off felt extremely rushed, throwing in information that could have been used for a longer period of time in another season, such as Alfie's cancer.

And then to top it off, instead of ending on the rushed but still emotionally heavy happenings of the episode so far, they decided to throw in the fact that Tommy is now an MP.

I really enjoyed the season up to this point, hoping for an ending which the emotional heft, of the likes of Game of Thrones, that would cause rifts through future seasons. This was delivered early on in the season with the death of John, and the final episode started well with the death of Arthur, but he should have stayed dead.

This episode is not necessarily bad, but in the context of an amazing season, it was a major let down.

Season 2 is still, in my opinion, the best that Peaky Blinders has to offer.

Jampacked, sloppy and disappointing ending to season 4.
sunllightvids23 December 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I am huge fan of this show and loved this season with the exception of this final episode. This season was even my favorite so far until I reached this final episode.

First of all, there's some very sloppy writing here. Which is surprising coming from Steven Knight. He has proven himself time and time again in the industry and particularly on his writing for Peaky Blinders, but this episode cannot be excused. The writing for this final episode is so messy and rushed it makes me wonder if there was some outside interference, If the BBC or outside producers had been meddling behind the scenes of this episode it would explain a lot because it comes across as if Steven Knight and whoever else helped him to write this season, had written it for seven or eight episodes and then the BBC or whoever controls the show came in at the last minute and said "Oh no you can only have 6 episodes" and the creators of the show were forced try and stuff multiple episodes of material into one final episode. However speculations and theories aside here are the major reasons this final episode doesn't work for me:

Resurrecting Arthur: It's one of the oldest tricks in the book, making the audience believe a character is dead and then all of a sudden at the last minute SURPRISE! he was alive all along, GOTCHA!. Except no.... you didn't get us because in order to make the stakes and the surprise of the character coming back real, you have to make us believe they're dead in the first place, and Arthur's death was not convincing at all. When you have a character as major and integral to the story as he is you can't give him a C grade Boba Fett death with some cheap camera tricks and ominus conflicting music and expect us to believe that he is dead.

Rushed writing of Tommy's plan: This is something that should of worked in concept but fell flat in execution. We are supposed to believe that immediately after seeing Arthur almost die Tommy instantly comes up with a genius plan of how to win. Something extremely convoluted that involves Michael traveling to NY, Al Capone, Fake funerals, keeping the truth a secret, waiting for months, expecting Luca Changrettas mother to propose the Family Vendetta nonsense, IM GETTING CONFUSED JUST WRITING IT. The plan is one thing but then on top of all this the writers try and get through all of it; THIS PLAN THAT TAKES MONTHS OF WORK AND EFFORT in 15 minutes of screen time. IT TAKES ME LONGER TO HAVE A PIZZA DELIVERED and it certainly took me longer to write this review. General rule: Don't try and cover long periods of time where dozens of important things happen in as little screen time as you can, because it doesn't make sense.

Characters: Some characters are seen once and never heard from again, even though they play important roles in the season. John's death was a little jarring at first but ultimately is very necessary for the season and show to continue and is handled well throughout the rest of the season. Michael shows up for one scene and then is sent to NYC and isn't seen again for the rest of the episode, what did he just stay in NYC? Abrahamamamlama Gold is in the start of the episode for 5 seconds and then is never seen again. What about Thomas's horse lady love interest that has been in the show since season 2? There's just a general lack of focus on characters other than Thomas, it's like the writers forgot they were there. Oh and Tom Hardy's character? Eh just give him a death scene on the beach with a dog where he and Thomas have a shootout, never mind that he has been Thomas's nemesis since season 2.

Adrien Brody/ Luca: Adrien Brody is a fucking amazing actor lets get that out of the way. His performance in this show in incredible, I mean it's some of the best TV acting I've ever seen end of story. The fact that he wasn't nominated for a Golden Globe is laughable and ridiculous at best. Emmy's are still far away but I feel like they will gloss over him awsell. This is one of the best TV performances ever. So explain to me why such a well written, cunning and powerful character has five minutes of screen time. His death scene while satisfying to some degree leaves much to be desired. Basically he meets with the Shelby's in a generic gloating "hahaha I win you lose" scene and then Thomas delivers a exposition filled monologue explaining his master plan to him. Luca gets upset briefly fights Thomas and then Arthur Miraculously shows up and kills Luca.

The second half the episode: There's so much nonsense here I honestly can't even explain all of it. Long story short Thomas kills all his enemies, goes on vacation, has a family meeting, there's some random arc about him being sick that's mentioned once and then never again (Really? either have it be a arc throughout the whole season or not at all, it has no overall effect on the story) maybe we will get more of that in season 5 but I doubt it. Then Thomas comes back, decides to come up with a new plan. Goes to see the guy who showed up at the start of the show "Oh who is this fucking guy? What does he do? Why is he powerful?" "Don't worry about it shut up and watch the show". Then Tommy decides to run for office and there's something briefly mentioned about Churchill who is apparently too busy to continue to make appearances in this show. Thomas wins the election and then as if the writers are trying to make us laugh, the episode ends with a slow mo walk down some stairs. I know... i'm upset too.

Honestly there's a lot of problems with this final episode but I think it just comes down to trying to fit too much into too little. Theres alot of possible explanations as to why that could've happened but I doubt we will ever find out why. The rest of the season is so superb that it makes this episode stick out like a sore thumb but if you read this far then you get it.

I love this show and I know many other people do as well so lets hope this was a one time thing. I'm very excited for what season five will hold and the creators and BBC don't ever pull this shit again, BY ORDER OF THE PEAKY FUCKING BLINDERS.

Season Review
atkinsonlouise-7387311 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
After the last season dropped in quality, season 4 returned things to greatness. For me, this was probs my second favourite series of the show so far and showed that they could mix the glamour with the grittyness of Birmingham in an effective way. The ending of the last season creates a division between these characters and makes for interesting dynamics between the family members. Luca Changretta played by Adrien Brody makes for a pretty good villain, who Tommy somehow gets one over at the end in a very clever way. Bringing the mafia into the mix, makes the show a bit more Hollywood-esque but not to the detriment of the writing. Tom Hardy also returns, being as untrustworthy as ever and maybe getting his comeuppance? Arthur in particular gets to shine here and avenge John's death in the way he wants. The events of this series and the last Mohave led to great TV, as we see a fragmented family coming together in a time of crisis. A return to form, but for how long? Score: 8.5/10.
