The Road to Mandalore
A_Kind_Of_CineMagic19 October 2020
This takes us back into the realms of Mandalore and its continuing conflicts. This time Gar Saxon has taken charge and is trying to make Mandalore an ally of the Empire. Sabine and Fenn Rau become emboiled in a 3 way dispute with Sabine's rebel friends trying to help.

The best thing in this is Gar Saxon and the way he looks. The design is so cool and is animated beautifully. He is also a formidable foe with his army of Imperial Mandalorians.

There is some fun action. There are a few bits that are too over the top and other bits that are really good.

My rating: 7.5/10.

Mandalorian madness

Warning: Spoilers
Plot; Sabine and Ezra find themselves in the middle of divided loyalties and warring factions while on the harsh Mandalorian planet of Concord Dawn.

Somewhat flat and rote storytelling boosted by some slick Mandalorian designs (including an homage to the McQuarrie concept Boba Fett) and a fun action finale with a jetpack chase/dogfight.

I have some misgivings about demystifying the Mandalorians, and I'm not sure they're being used to their greatest potential here, but I'm willing to take it on faith for now that they've got an important and interesting part to play in the season to still to come.

Three

Warning: Spoilers
Three different Mandalorians, all fighting for different things, all together in a single episode of the last show unexpected to see Mandalorian lore in. I'm actually super PUMPED for more Mandalorian action on this series, which is obviously coming with the way things ended here. Sabine isn't one of the strongest characters in the Ghost crew (yet anyway), but she is sort of admirable and I have to think something huge is going to come into play for her this season.

Seeing Gar Saxon being a jerk again was fun. It's scary to think he's still around! Also, Chopper squeezing Ezra's nose to wake him up, and then slapping him, and then laugh at him was oddly hilarious.

Another good episode in a really solid season so far.

Imperial Supercommandos

Despite a lot of annoying character moments for Fenn Rau and the constant optimistic portrayal of some our heroes, this was a good episode. I am very interested in this particular storyline, and even though I don't know how it is going to play out in the future, I do think that it will have a big impact of Sabine as a character and how she will act going forward. The new antagonists of this episode were very cool, and I liked the idea of Gar Saxon, and how his character ties into the overall conflict with the Empire. It was a good developing episode that gave a lot of interesting details about a lot of aspects of the galaxy. The fact that these warrior races are a part of the Empire, serving under their hand, is a fascinating idea, and I think that they've realized it very well so far. This season is up to a good start. There hasn't been a lot of those unnecessary filler episodes and I believe they may have realized the downside of those episodes from the previous season. I like they are putting a lot of effort in telling many different stories at once, and I do hope that they find a way to mix it together in the end.
