March brings breezes loud and shrill/stirs the dancing daffodil. Bit of poetry for you there. What Sara Coleridge fails to mention is that March also brings season seven of Brooklyn Nine-Nine to Netflix UK, more weekly episodes of Riverdale season five, a brand new sci-fi series from the creators of Misfits, a new film directed by Amy Poehler and a host of cool animated series.
The One (pictured above) is an eight-part British series created by Howard Overman about a near-future world in which a DNA test can track down your perfect partner. It’s adapted from John Marrs’ novel of the same name, and yes, has a strikingly similar premise to US anthology sci-fi Soulmates. Newly formed U.K. industry body Black Sound Society aims to increase the visibility of Black technicians in the sound department.
The not-for-profit organization is set up by technicians working across all grades in production and post-production of film and television sound in the U.K. It will support newcomers and assist experienced sound technicians with strategies for a successful career progression.
The org’s mission statement is to create more opportunities via extensive apprenticeships for Black trainees, and provide further work experience or internships for more established technicians who want to advance their careers or make lateral career moves. The Black Sound Society will encourage producers, line producers, heads of departments and post-production houses to hire more Black personnel on a regular basis (and not just on ‘Black’ productions).

Eerie, desolate sci-fi series War of the Worlds aired in France in late 2019 and earlier this year in the Us and UK. Less an adaptation of the titular H.G. Wells novel than a contemporary riff on the alien invasion thriller by creator Howard Overman, it resolutely ploughed its own furrow. Moody, atmospheric, bleak and emotional, it swapped red weed, tripods and heat rays for a grief-soaked meditation on family and survival… with terrifying alien robot sniper dogs.
The series’ second run commission has been an open secret for months, but the official stamp was announced this weekend, with filming due to begin on Monday the 13th of July after a dry run of the new Covid-19 filming protocol took place last Friday.
Deadline, speaking to Urban Myth producer Johnny Capps reported on the meticulous planning and procedures in place to film the second series in the midst of a global coronavirus pandemic.

Are you ready to find The One? Netflix appears to be.
Netflix is quickly becoming a hub for science fiction. The streamer has ordered a new series from Future Man and Misfits creator Howard Overman titled The One.
The series is set in the near future where a DNA test can reveal a person’s perfect partner, and the implications of having the perfect match lead to some explosive decisions. The series is adapted from a 2017 novel by John Marrs, who has said in interviews that he sees the story as a relationship-focused one, rather than hard sci-fi. The novel follows five people who have unexpected matches.
The One received a 10-episode order and will be written by Overman, whose other TV writing credits include Merlin, Dirk Gently, and E4/Netflix’s Crazyhead.
Overman co-created the well-reviewed, Seth Rogen-produced sci-fi comedy Future Man, which streams on Hulu.

Startup TV Time is opening the kimono to its database with billions of fan reactions to television shows — to let TV networks, digital-video services and others take a deeper dive into the buzz about specific programs, characters, and episodes.
The company’s new TVLytics platform provides a window into reactions to 60,000 shows, including on traditional TV and on subscription VOD services like Netflix, Amazon, Hulu and YouTube. The data is pulled from TV Time’s user base, which averages 750,000-1 million active users on a daily basis. The free app lets users track TV shows, get recommendations and vote in different categories for each program.
The point of TVLytics isn’t to gauge total audience for a TV show, a la Nielsen ratings. Rather, TV Time’s TVLytics is designed to provide a read on what fans of a particular show are especially passionate about and benchmark that against other content.

In this era of “Peak TV” there doesn’t seem to be enough time to bother with drama and comedy imports. But while there are more than enough American shows to binge, it would be a mistake to bypass great foreign TV. After all, that would mean missing out on fan favorites like “Doctor Who,” “Orphan Black,” “Downton Abbey” and “Sherlock.”
Foreign TV has spawned hit U.S. adaptations like “Homeland” and “The Office,” as well as pale imitations of the original. Remember the failed American versions of “The It Crowd” and “Coupling”? Yeah, we’d like to forget ’em as well.

E4’s demon-fighting horror comedy Crazyhead really starts to mesh in its second episode…
This review contains spoilers
1.2 Pine Fresh Scent
Now this is really starting to gel. The comedy works. The horror-lite works. The two leads certainly work. Crazyhead may be treading familiar TV ground but its energy sells it.
More properly, Susan Wokoma and Cara Theobald's energy sells it, pepped up by Howard Overman’s characteristically flippant, filthy script. The chemistry between the co-leads (hero Raquel is decidedly not the comedy sidekick here) is Crazyhead’s engine.
Episode two developed the show's mythology sparingly, spending more of its time building the double-act between Amy and Raquel. We learned about the latter's half-demon parentage and were treated to an impressive demonstration of her burgeoning powers when she went all Carrie White at the local ice rink. Raquel is special, superpowered and, in the ominous words of...
