Dollar Bin
Prince_of_Darknet9 December 2020
Picked this up for $1 at Dollar Tree. I'm glad I didn't spend more. First off, it is extremely confusing to have a plot synopsis in the first 3 minutes of the movie, one that contains entire scenes not found in the subsequent film. The trailer also shows scenes that seem to lead up to the start of the Dystopia I watched. So we come in about halfway through the action? Characters are dropped in with no explanation, the main characters already know them and have a history with them. Their motivations are not always clear other than they need to eliminate the entity known as "Biocorp." Acting is either amateurish or hammy, a few of the actors reach grade-B status, including Michael Madsen as someone who seems to be the President of the USA. Again, the backstory is missing here. Was this a sequel to a movie that never got released, or an edited version of a much longer film? The trailer would seem to suggest there was another film that explains all.

A real mess
Woodyanders8 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
2037. A virus has rendered the human race infertile, so several folks travel back in time to change the events that made this bleak future occur.

Sound good and exciting? Well, it alas it just ain't, thanks primarily to a seriously muddled and sloppy narrative that feels rushed and slipshod throughout. Moreover, the meandering story unfolds at an often sluggish pace, thereby making this movie a total slog to sit through. Worse yet, there's nothing in the way of any essential tension or momentum. The annoying cliffhanger ending doesn't help matters any. There's some decent action towards the ending, but it proves to be too little too late. Token name Michael Madsen grumbles his way through his crappy minor role as a grouchy president. An absolute clunker.

Good story, badly executed
stigmalia6 December 2023
Edit: skip the low budget movie, the tv series is better. Music is added, the story is coherent and fills the gaps that miss in the movie. I think the actors pour their hearts out in this job, which makes it an entertaining tv show. Especially when you love timetravel plots and dystopia stories. It's not Hollywood, but the budget is good enough to make a descent and thrilling tv series.

The story line is great, has potential, but sadly it's skipping the good parts, bad acting, filming and no background music. I don't recommend this movie. It's rushed and has to many jumps in the storyline. Skips over the cool storylines. The camera work isn't great, neither is the quality. It's so sad, because of the potential of this movie. Maybe with a better movie budget it could have been an awesome movie. It feels like you fall into a story and its a bit confusong who who is and what their role is in everthing. Subtitles aren't great either. Watch this movie if you appreciate the attempt they're trying to do.

Very Bad.
hopejefcoat30 September 2018
Bad from the beginning to the end. Very low budget. I love movies and some of my favorite ones are the small movies from redbox, but this movie was very bad. Do not be fooled by the cover.

I'm sorry, after 87 min, what did I watch?
cactyystotemgaming22 May 2018
Warning: Spoilers
For starters, is this thing, this, whatever it is called Mad World or Dystopia?

This is bad, even for a Indi film. So they drop you into the middle of the movie with an introduction that you think is what the whole movie is about. Then the whole rest os the movie is like watching the US Senate on CSPAN having a debate over Abortion. Watch the movie and see why I said abortion.

Then instead of closing the movie in any way, or resolving any conflict in to movie, it simply ends in a cliffhanger hanger fashion.

The movie has no set 1st, 2nd, or 3rd act. The concept of the movie could be done, including all the stuff they talked about with the long movie intro, and still resolved the movie by a skilled movie producers in under 2 hours.

Don't watch it. There is nothing to watch. If you do after reading this, its on you.

Madness never comes
TheLittleSongbird2 July 2018
'Mad World' drew me into seeing it, with a cool poster/cover, an intriguing if not particularly original premise and as someone with a general appreciation for the genre. That it was low-budget, which from frequent personal experience is rarely a good sign due to that there are so many poor ones out there, made me though apprehensive as well as the low rating and poor reviews.

It is sadly however yet another film seen recently, hence some reiteration because the exact same strengths and flaws those films have are present here, that to me was incredibly disappointing considering its potential which it doesn't do anywhere near enough with. 'Mad World' is yet another terrible film, with a plethora of problems (huge ones too). There is nothing to recommend here, no redeeming qualities at all.

The acting all round is pretty diabolical, exceptions are none, with a bad mix of hamminess and phoning in.

Visually, 'Mad World' looks drab and far from slick, with a cheap, limited set that completely fails to show any sense of claustrophobia or tension, drab photography and not always cohesive editing. The dialogue is from the very start to the silly and anti-climactic finish has no natural flow and makes one cringe. The ending doesn't feel like one at all, it feels unresolved, abrupt and incomplete.

Characters have minimal at best development and are either bland, ridiculously annoying or both with some illogical decision making. The story is dull, never coming to life, dreary in atmosphere with no tension or suspense at all and fails to make sense too often. The direction is as flat as a pancake and what should have been intriguing was instead ridiculous and barely plausible.

Overall, terrible. 1/10 Bethany Cox

I am your son as an adult.
nogodnomasters5 January 2018
Warning: Spoilers
In 20137 children die shortly after birth. A Biocorp chip is placed in everyone. Three people go into the past with different goals. Simon Phillips wants to kill everyone in the corporation before they take control. The other two are more interested in saving relatives by relocating them.

Meanwhile Biocorp has discovered how to go back and send back a man to take care of the rebels.

It sounds like "Terminator" but you will be hard pressed to find a memorable line or character. You would think Simon Phillips would have written himself a better role. Michael Madsen is in the film. Not too sure who he was, as he wasn't on the screen that much. Simon Phillips needs to get the private names and addresses of everyone in Biocorp (in 2017) and then decides to blow up a corporate event that was publicly announced. So what was the point?

The cover has nothing to do with the film. Special effects included a tanning bed.

No swearing, sex, or nudity.

After 2 Minutes I had To Check The Rating on IMDB
mboyd198628 February 2019
Just one pathetic scene was all it took for me to think:

"I'd better check the rating on IMDB in case I'm just wasting my time hoping that this will get better".

Ha ha ha ha. Rating of 2.2!

And it didn't get any better.

So only about 10 minutes wasted. Thanks IMDB reviewers.

Boring
taggartmacbean5 January 2019
I don't want to be cruel here but I have to because this movie tried to be terminator and it came off as boring and confusing, I watched 30 minutes of it and was so bored and didn't get part of the storyline. Wish I could get that $1.75 I spent at Redbox for this movie.

Half a Star Too Many
toyotapaulp10 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
How does this have a 3.8 star rating? Thought I'd give it a shot and forced myself through the whole series. I know, I'm a glutton for punishment. Horrible acting, just horrible! Who in their right mind took a look at the finished product and said "yeah, this is good" who!? Ugh. I checked yes to the question regarding whether or not this review contains spoilers because yeah, it's spoiled all right.

Not the ending I was looking for.
stephangameguy14 September 2021
I watched the the eight episodes on prime and it wasn't great it was just okay. However I really wanted to see how the story ended and was pretty disappointed that there was no conclusion did they save the world? Then I saw that there was a movie so I figured hey they have created a movie to give you an ending so the story is complete. Kind of like farscape the peacekeeper wars or serenity. Great movies by the way.

I want to say if you're looking for an ending for this series which you may have thought is okay this is not it there is no new material here there is only a repeat of what you already watched edited together.

Absolutely terrible.

Loss of entertainment value
angelicseven8 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Much like some comic books that have impressive covers on the front to cover-up poor artwork inside, is pretty much what this movie is like. Problem with this movie is long drawn out dialogue, with pointless waste of time yelling and threaten gun pointing that does nothing. It's like everything was stretched out more than should be. Possibly for lack creative ideas involved. Tanning booths used for time transference is too apparent. The ending being inconclusive also helps make the movie not worth watching or buying. Not a movie to enjoy watching over and over.

Unabashed 12 Monkeys Rip Off
goaskalicea8 May 2022
The title says it all: they ripped off the premise of the film (and later television show) 12 Monkeys. Period. That's it. They made some VERY minor changes, hired some less than stellar actors, and viola - there you have it.

12 Monkeys (as a film) wasn't great, even with Brad Pitt and Bruce Willis. To my surprise, I liked the Sci-Fi Channel iteration much better, but even that wasn't Grade A.

Save the hour or so of your life you'll never get back and skip this.
