The film festival program that the main character Jeffrey holds has a lot of silly wordplay printed within. The director Michael Bunch's name is listed in the program twice, but the second time it is listed as Miguel Mucho. The actor Carson Einarsen is also listed twice but both times as Carso Neinarsen and Cameron Einstein. The second name is "Cameron" because that's the name of the character Carson is playing in the film, revealing that his character also has a film playing in the film festival (not just the main character Jeffrey). In addition to being an actor, Carson Einarsen is also a filmmaker in real life, so the titles "6 O'clock" and "The Flickering" on the program are both spin-off names of two other real life student short films that he was working on during the making of "Please Remain Seated."
The two guys who get up and leave near the beginning of the film are the producer Preston Richard and director Michael Bunch. It's funny because even the makers of the film won't stay and remain seated for their own film. In addition to this fact, pretty much all of the film crew ended up becoming involved as actors in the film, due to a shortage of background actors.
The bit where the character Cameron pulls pizza out of a paper bag and starts casually eating it is based on a true story that the director Michael Bunch heard from a fellow student filmmaker, who said that they sometimes keep pizza in a paper bag handy to eat when they're attending a film festival screening.
All of the various grumbling voices of the people leaving the festival were performed by director Michael Bunch. For example, an old guy shouts, "I want my money back!" Sound supervisor/designer Matthew Badamo performed one voice, though, so it wouldn't be extremely obvious that it was all the same guy.
In the fake film of the hillbilly, the boom operator was purposely placed into the frame edge of the wide shot to aid in making the fake film look as poorly made as possible.
