An Interesting premise. Yet, falls short.
snamendolare28 September 2018
Part autobiography, part morality tale, this coming of age "life as a pre - teen prostitute" story has all the familiar elements audiences have come to expect from similar films.

For example...

A down on his luck loner takes an at risk youth under his wing on a quest to seek redemption in a from their penury existence in a world filled with hatred, murder and revenge.

As they embark on their journey, the question ultimately arises as to "who is saving who?"

That is where the comparisons end.

There are many story components to the film that have promise, unfortunately the lack of verisimilitude in the world created, coupled with underwhelming cinematic craftsmanship undermines a competant cast who labor under the burden of one dimensional characters unjustly enslaved by stagnant and well worn expositional dialogue.

The film's saving grace is the interaction between actors Alexis Rossinsky and Aaron Hendry who manages to forge a believable performances out of some challenging material dealing with difficult subject matters.

Good story, poorly presented
barry-6511423 June 2023
It's a good storyline, allegedly based on a true story. But a weak script, bad acting and weak directing drag this way down.

It is watchable but due to the stiffness of the acting it is painful at times. They are not helped at all by the simplistic, spoon-feeding script that tells you verbatim everything they want to convey to you rather than letting you figure it out from the story.

Casting very attractive women as street level hookers may have made it pleasant on the eyes but it dealt a serious blow to the realism of the story. Which, basically, is indicative of the whole presentation and sums up the movie.

Very likely to be the worst movie of 2018
julianxbishop12 September 2018
Lost Fare very likely to be the worst film of 2018. This is a shame because it is made by an accomplished filmmaker involved in many great films over decades & the movie does has some attractive and memorable cinematography.

However, the script is appalling:
  • unbelievable dialogue, including many lines that have never been uttered by a real person
  • spelt-out conclusions. The audience for this type of movie is going to want to work out the meaning of this film themselves (and will have the ability to do so)
  • verbalized backstory
  • plot that is fundamentally too complex
  • unintentionally funny.

The actors didn't stand a chance.

Wow, sorry to say it but they all are bad actors, even the kids
elizrug26 September 2018
I dislike hating on kids but some can act and some can't, and they picked the ones who can't for this movie. The adults are just as bad. I watched about 30 minutes and called it quits. It's so painful, and not because of the subject matter.

Almost past this one up..
jasonrdt5 January 2019
So i seen this with a 4.8 rating and almost past it up.. But indie films can be passed up because we all look for big names big plots big explosions and so on.. But i will say glad i watched ,full of cliches and average to a few great moments of acting the story is powerful and the script was decently written..its a nice break from the everyday blockbusters they shove down our throat ... Dont pass this one up.. You will enjoy

missing depth
mary-179-6773836 February 2024
This movie had some great elements. However I really could not give this film more than 3 stars. It's missing so much depth. The story ends and i have more questions than answers. It's based on a true story so I was intrigued with this sad premise of the film. I have tried finding more details of the real story online but came up empty. I wonder how much was creative licence and how much was in fact true. The movie ends and it gives some info about the movie it's based on, she has a muscular dystrophy and is still alive, no further information on any of the other characters.

Was it heartwarming like other reviews said. Not really. Would i recommend this movie? Not really. Would i watch it again? No. This movie just fell short.

cry, laugh, immerse, crudely made, excellently acted, well thought out
cesspit-5350519 October 2018
Watching this, you'll either hate it, or love it. It is low budget, and often outright awful in its language, and yet, the acting and immersing moments seem to shine through. Sure, it could have been made better, better actors/actresses and more money spent on props etc, but the violence and scenes were for me just right. The two young girls were the stars, and the overall scenery was fulfilling as a pleasant backdrop. I wouldn't watch this twice, but i do feel, that to have seen it once was worth my time and i would recommend this to anyone over the age of 17 or 18. i loved the scene with the furry friend, kind of apt to have such a normal happening in a world all messed up

A little gem you shouldn't miss.
stevenfinly13 September 2018
After watching Lost Fare on Amazon, I checked out its website and several of the interviews with the cast and director. I was pleasantly surprised to learn the film was inspired by the abusive childhood of the original writer and details both the dark and light sides of her life, especially they way she learned the value of time and how to make the most out of every moment of every day. In spite of the film's micro budget, it looks amazing. Great ensemble cast, especially from the story's lead, Alexis Rosinsky -- who's already won several awards for her performance. She plays an abused 11 year old that's been forced into prostitution by her mother's pimp. To me, this little gem is what indy filmmaking is all about, original stories told with a unique vision.

Gritty realism meets magical realism in a touching film.
pamelajayesmith8 November 2018
I was very moved by this film, with its well-crafted mixture of gritty realism and magical realism. Exceptionally touching.

Bruce Logan is a world-famous director, cinematographer, speaker, writer, colorist, and special effects wonder. His first film job was on Stanley Kubrick's classic 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY and -- he blew up the Death Star in the first STAR WARS film!

Out now is Bruce's new film - smaller in scope but large in emotional resonance.

"Lost Fare" is based on true events and characters. An 11 year old disabled girl, routinely pimped out by her prostitute mother, is saved by a suicidal cab driver. Together, they go on a journey of redemption that forever changes their lives.

Well done, Logan and your creative team!

Simply Love-ly
LOST FARE is a deeply personal, insightful and intimate story that ever-so-briefly captures the complex and varied essence of human nature in its rawest and purest form. It is poetic love story that shows how hope, light, love and beauty shines and, in fact, can and do co-exist even in the darkest of pains and the most nightmarish of situations.

From the beginning of LOST FARE until the end there is a steady and progressive movement towards Life that is both heartwarming and inspiring. The unexpected moments of tenderness that occured between the characters in LOST FARE was encouraging.

LOST FARE is a story that showed how humanity is capable of profound compassion even when one feels they have lost everything. This was a very important point of the film and story. Something that is so easily forgotten in our society.

It is easy to look away when we see suffering. It is easy to dismiss the suffering shown in a true story as being 'not true.' But looking away and dismissing the suffering of others does nothing to improve the state of humanity. LOST FARE is a brave story that shares pain and joy and it needs to be embraced with love and tenderness.

LOST FARE is a gift for humanity.

The little indie that could!
mcampos715 September 2018
Beautiful cinematography in a dark, but hopeful film. The lead actors have a wonderful chemistry and the young actress playing Freda gives a moving performance that'll stay with you, especially once you realize the character's based on a real person. A must see!

Amazing breakout role for Alexis Rosinsky
rachelnardo-8276519 September 2018
Warning: Spoilers
This 11 year old actress was perfectly cast as an authentic, but resilient victim of child sex slavery. Pitch perfect, child-like acting with thr soul of a seasoned actor. Watch this one's career--reminds me of Young Jody Foster.

I would love to see this film remade with some real money behind it. It's a painfully true story that deserves a big voice.

I'm not a screenwriter, but as a viewer, I thought the ending needed a more logical ending for the brother. I thought the ending was headed I to magical realism, but not quite.

I love the potential of this movie, hope for the content, and enjoyed the lead actors.

A cut above the rest.
patriciaaldersley25 September 2018
I was very taken with this low budget indie film from seasoned Movie Man Bruce Logan. His direction of Alexis Rosinksy was exemplary - child actors can all too easily slip into victim/gamine/cute - but this young girl was guided into a moving performance which never slid into sentimentality. The story is a particularly harsh one involving child prostitution and the devastation wreaked by drugs but it stayed with me and left me heartened rather than despairing. It's not all grim and gore - loving relationships go some way to relieving the gloom and it not only resonates but looks and feels much more of a high-end movie than its modest budget would suggest. See it!

Thought Provoking
jjgeissendoerfer13 October 2018
In Lost Fare, Bruce Logan has created a thought provoking picture of adolescent abuse & despair. It put me in mind of a Grimm's Fairy Tale. Alexis Rosinsky excelled in the lead role of Freda, displaying a maturity beyond her years. This was a topic sensitively handled & beautifully shot by Logan -- hope it gets picked up!

Profoundly RICH and deeply heartfelt
nanettemeau11 April 2019
Hidden message in this film. How can a trashy person bring a beautiful soul into this world? How can an emotionally beat up and physically and sexually abused little girl walk out of the darkness of Hell unscathed? A heart of GOLD. This film brings Hell and Heaven together seen through an innocent child's eyes as she navigates her way towards the light. Her brother mimics her resilience. Courage to fight for goodness. "Heart of a lion." God and his army of angels from Heaven above. A film about good and evil. Choosing to be good and how Love always wins.
