Liane Moriarty has made her way back to the screen with another hit show adapted from one of her best-selling novels. Following 2017’s “Big Little Lies,” Hulu’s “Nine Perfect Strangers” premiered on Aug. 18 with three buzzy episodes.
The series, which stars Nicole Kidman, Melissa McCarthy, Michael Shannon, Bobby Cannavale and Regina Hall, takes place in a tropical wellness resort where an eerie retreat leader promises nine broken strangers (none of which know each other) that they’ll leave happier than they came. But it soon becomes clear that she has a plan for them that none of them could have expected.
The episodes will continue dropping on Hulu every week through Sept.

Juliet Rylance will play the title role in ABC's series adaptation of Liane Moriarty’s The Hypnotist’s Love Story.
“How do you make a man do something without nagging? That is the billion-dollar question," Liane Moriarty wrote in her novel The Hypnotist’s Love Story. This may be more problematic when your husband is a Russian mob prince. Juliet Rylance will play the title role in The Hypnotist’s Love Story, ABC's TV series adaptation of the novel, according to Variety.
The series is being executive produced by Heather Graham, who wrote, directed and starred in the romantic comedy Half Magic. It is unclear yet which role Graham would be playing, though it is not expected to be Ellen. Wech and Graham executive produce with David Hoberman, Todd Lieberman and Laurie Zaks of Mandeville Television. ABC Studios is the studio.
Graham has been the driving force behind the project.

Amazon Studios has given the green light to drama series The Expatriates based on Janice Y.K. Lee’s novel from Nicole Kidman’s Blossom Films, for premiere exclusively on Amazon Prime Video. This marks the first project under Kidman’s first-look deal with Amazon Studios, inked last month, to get a green light.
Screenwriter Alice Bell (The Beautiful Lie) is attached to pen the adaptation. Kidman’s Blossom Films optioned the rights to the book in February 2017, with Bell attached as writer and a potential role for Kidman to star.
“After announcing our recent first look deal with Nicole and Blossom Films, we are thrilled to kick off this relationship by bringing this very popular novel from author Janice Y.K. Lee to Prime Video,” said Jennifer Salke, Head of Amazon Studios. “The story weaves an addictive tapestry that follows a group of complex women and their lives as outsiders in Hong Kong.

Another bestselling novel by Big Little Lies author Liane Moriarty is headed to the small screen. EveryWhere Studios has optioned the rights to Moriarty’s Three Wishes for a series adaptation written by playwright/TV writer Lila Feinberg (Younger). I hear the drama project is set up at Netflix for development.
Three Wishes marks EveryWhere Studios’ first project since veteran executive/producer Karen Glass was brought in as new head of development.
Three Wishes follows three wildly different sisters as their lives intertwine and unfold around their glamorous Manhattan wedding weekend that ends in a shocking tragedy. When a scandalous secret emerges, the tight-knit bond among the sisters is tested as they unravel a mystery that ripples throughout each of their lives.
Moriarty executive produces alongside Tom Mazza and David Calvert-Jones for EveryWhere Studios, with Glass serving as co-executive producer.

Because of the time difference between L.A. and Australia, when Liane Moriarty hopped on the phone with Et this week, she was technically already one day closer to Sunday's premiere of Big Little Lies, the HBO limited series adapted from her best-selling novel. "It is getting nearer and nearer!" the author exclaims, then adds reassuringly, "I feel very confident everybody's going to love it."
It helps if you consider the talent behind the series: Big Little Lies stars Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman and Shailene Woodley as Californian mothers whose seemingly perfect lives begin to unravel following an incident at first grade orientation, culminating with a murder. All seven episodes were written by 10-time Emmy winner David E. Kelley (Ally McBeal) and directed by Oscar nominee Jean-Marc Vallé (Wild). Moriarty discusses that powerhouse team, the changes made to her source material and why her husband hopes Jennifer Aniston stars in her next movie.
