Mediocre Storyline, Non-Charismatic Characters, Awful Killer
claudio_carvalho10 December 2018
"The Cabin" is a slash horror movie with mediocre storyline, non-charismatic characters and awful killer. The lead couple is unlikable and it is impossible to the viewer to feel any empathy for them. There is no explanation or development of the killer and the viewer never knows his motivation to kill or who he is. The storyline and the screenplay are boring, full of clichés and never build tension. Last but not the least, there are fake reviews to promote this flick and lure the user of this site, most of them with one line or two. My vote is two.

Had to turn this diabolical mess off. Terrible acting, brutal overdubbing, terrible camera work. Pretty sure my dog could make a better movie.

Cabin in the woods it is not!
omendata5 December 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Totally mediocre at best, stalk and slash derivative - with to be honest not much stalking or even slashing. The best slash in the movie was when I decided to go to the bog for one!

Annoying actors you want to see offed from the start and the usual strange locals in the petrol station at the beginning could have been taken from a dozen of this type of movie. It did have an Irish ccountryside vibe about it from the beginning but soon became obvious this was going to be another Wrong Turn ripoff!

Dodgy , wobbly camerawork did not help either and poor old Sven the killer just grunted his way through the tedium!

The plot; what there is of it, is not explained and to be honest I found it really boring with not much in the way of interesting kills, motive or tension.

unlikable cast, boring storyline, jittery directing
calebm-17 December 2018
From the beginning I hated both protagonists and couldn't wait to see them die. the killer/slasher is uninteresting and shallow. The plot holds little weight as the main characters never make any good decisions. also notice that all the positive reviews of this movie on IMDB have the same grammatical errors. This movie looks like what you might get when you give expensive cameras to an untalented (or maybe inexperienced?) crew.

They deserve to be prey
lectra-7365114 December 2018
This could've been a pretty good thriller/horror movie but I was so annoyed thinking who does NOT arm themselves with a some sort of weapon after knowing they are being sought after? REALLY? This movie is so unbelievable with many gaps. They definitely dropped the ball on this film. In this day and age, why is it so difficult to make an authentic horror movie without being stupid, unbelievable, and cheap? It's not even comical anymore, just a waste of the viewers time and money. And the characters are so dumb and naive and annoying that you could care less if they are killed anyway. You feel nothing for them. Just the fact that he left the cabin without even a stick to poke the killer, leads me to root for the killer.

Sven with an axe in the living room.
nogodnomasters16 December 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Sven (Erik Kammerland) kills a man (Thomas Hedengran) and occupies his farm. Meanwhile, Harry (Christopher Lee Page) and Rose (Caitlin Crommett) are on their way to a remote cabin for a getaway week. They have issues and do whatever they can to irritate the other one. Rose prefers the smell of urine on the city sidewalk to the country. The bickering sometimes gets physical and he drops the "C" word on her. Neither are likable.

In order to reach the cabin, they must park their car and borrow a rowboat from....you guessed it, the only other living character in the script. Now why he is killing is unknown. They did the stop at the gas station with weird people scene. It didn't tie into the film. They also stopped the car and Harry had an odd look around. Again it didn't tie into anything.

The film goes through the basic motions of a cabin in the woods film but forgot to create a decent backstory.

Guide: swearing. Implied sex. no nudity.

I thought it was a bit scary! And the locations/filming are good. Yeah, the bad guy is kind of awful, but the story was okay!

Even Asylum doesn't sink this low -- when you specifically create cover art to look like the cover art of a similarly-named and infinitely better movie from 8 years ago to lure in viewers, you've pretty much admitted you know your movie is beyond awful and can't draw viewers on its own merits. The deliberate attempt to imitate "he Cabin in the Woods" semi-iconic floating cabin cover art says all that needs to be said about this movie, and certainly all this movies deserves to have said about it.

Well, the fact that they managed to sink even lower than the Asylum studios does bear repeating, actually. So that's two things that need to be said about this movie. I'm giving them two stars for remembering to take the lens caps off the cameras, and deducting one star because that tragically ensured we could see what they were doing.

Sometimes You SHOULD believe the rating....
michellekfoley15 October 2019
I should've known better. The 3.0 star rating, the title screen showing, "A Night In The Cabin", when the movie title was shown as, "The Cabin". First scene, I should've known then...the guy gets ready for bed, but stops to light long tapered candles on his organ, and proceeeds to play scary organ/church/horror movie music. REALLY??? I guess it was gross curiosity that made me watch 30 more minutes -- plz don't waste your time!! It's not one of those films that SOME ppl will claim to like. Won't happen. Sometimes you SHOULD believe the rating...

Sorry. Beautiful countryside footage can't manipulate me into liking this.
mark.waltz27 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The moment you meet the harpy character played by Caitlin Crommett, you want to see her get the ax like the man in the opening scene by the disfigured character who stalks her and boyfriend Christopher Lee Page at the cabin they stay at in the woods. There's a reason why certain types of modern young women are disliked because they are unpleasant from the start, and all she does is be unpleasant and roll her eyes and speak in an oiled vocal fry, and there's a reason why Page ends up drinking and driving when they stopped at a convenience store for a minute. Does the audience really want to sympathize for 90 minutes with a character of this nature in a dangerous situation? A definite no. In fact, they wouldn't blame Page for turning on her with an axe as well.

When you create a thriller with anyone in a precarious predicament that puts them in danger, you want to have a little bit of sympathy. As unpleasant as Barbara Stanwyck's character was in "Sorry Wrong Number", you understood her motivations, and there was nothing like that here. Within 10 minutes, I was thoroughly disgusted by the horrible screenplay and lousy direction and especially Crommett's juvenile spoiled nasty poor excuse for a female, and trying to get into it further only made me angrier. This is the type of film that isn't even worth saving as a drink coaster or showing to an audience of writers as a lesson of "Don't let this happen to you." In fact, I would have to say that this is probably one of the worst thrillers I've ever made an attempt to watch and find some patients with. I'm afraid that there might be some toxic waste from all the DVD copies that are thrown away after people attempt to watch it because it truly is that vile.

Rather amateur throughout
rushknight26 December 2019
It makes no sense, period.

You must shut off your brain to watch this. I recommend booze, perhaps a bowl or two as well. Invite your friends, you'll need someone to talk to so that your brain cells don't atrophy too quickly.

You will constantly think to yourself, "these people are idiots." The killer is an amateur, the boyfriend passes up every conceivable chance to arm himself with literally hundreds of possible items, and just when you think the girl is going to make a good decision, she turns it into a bad one immediately. The movie's beginning and ending have no point, and are cliche, and the setting and circumstances leave you scratching your head. Why here? Why now? Why are you doing that? Why aren't any of the things that would normally happen in this sort of a situation happening?

There is music, and it is standard fare. It's the usual bangy nonsense that the director uses to explain that you should be scared here, or worried there, and oh let's fall in love for al little while before things get exciting (just kidding, there's no excitement). It's very sad because music can be truly effective, but in this film its use is generic.

It's well filmed but has absolutely zero depth and leaves you wondering.. not about the characters or situation, but about the director and writer. How could they possibly think this was going to come off as a watchable film? All in all there was no love in this movie. The audience is not compelled to feel any sort of affection for the actors, and all the facets of the movie are simply just bland. You end up really just.. not caring about anything at any time.

Good luck guys, try again sometime. This time was just not good. I'm giving it two stars instead of one because it was at least filmed well. That much I am thankful for, but honestly just pass this up guys, it has no entertainment value at all.

Waste Time
ahmgamal-6207714 March 2020
I am regretful for wasting time in watching such a bad, stupid & silly movie like that. I put each actor and the director in the bad list and whenever I see their names on other movie, I will save my time and my cinematic taste and never watch it.

The cinematography in this movie was incredible. I found it moving and and effective in telling this unbelievable story. Watch this movie if you're looking for a night of fun, suspense, and thought provoking subject matter.

The Cabin

Has some nice locations and it has a one debt camera work. It kept my attention as the reality is a cabin in the woods, in the Muffle if nowhere can turn wrong.

Uninspired failed horror flick
johannes2000-123 November 2021
An (intend) horror movie with the word "Cabin" in its title does promise something, but here they unfortunately don't deliver, since it fails on almost every account. The two main characters are dull and unsympathetic, especially the girl is a nagging harpy that anyone (but this guy) would have dumped at the first possible moment (my suggestion: while rowing in the middle of the lake!).

The first half of the movie they endlessly bicker and fight, the second half of the movie we have to follow the guy who tries to sneak into the house of the psychopathic murderer (of course the exact opposite of what every normal person would do!), which takes a tedious half hour, before at last both main characters are caught and tied, and the last 20 minutes we have to watch their predictable clumsy attempts to escape.

The murderer is as uncharismatic and bland as the main characters, we get no motivation for his killings whatsoever and in his last furious attack he ludicrously starts to snort as an insane hippo on the loose. The final scene (obligatory in this kind of horror flicks), that has to imply that the horrors haven't ended, is as gratuit as all the rest.

The only decent thing here was the soundtrack. But that's hardly enough to save this totally superfluous movie.
