Supergirl: The Winter Soldier
ThomasDrufke27 February 2017
Supergirl is at its best when it doesn't take itself too seriously. I'm fine with dramatic moments every now and then but I'd rather not the show turn into a soap opera. This episode felt like a soap opera, but it did further the plot with Cadmus. It's about dang time.

More relationship-y problems with Mon-El and Kara this week as the former had to come to grips with listening and being patient with Kara. As it turns out, however, Kara was the one that needed to listen. I don't really care for a weekly issue with the two, but this one was well-acted and didn't last as long as I thought. Mon- El was suspicious about Jeremiah's return, and rightfully so. You don't just come back from being captive for 15 years in the "most dangerous nemesis Team Supergirl has ever faced, Cadmus.

So most of the episode played out like a mystery. Is Jeremiah still himself or did he turn into DC's version of Winter Soldier? Well, it seems like a little bit of both. He's clearly under the terms of a deal with Lillian Luthor, but he's been significantly physically altered. His right arm is robotic and resembles the same sort of altercation they made to Cyborg Superman. We all knew from the beginning that Jeremiah was doing something for Cadmus. I wasn't sure if he was being mind controlled or it was an entirely different person disguised as Jeremiah, but there wasn't much suspense considering it was telegraphed from the first few minutes anyway.

It wasn't a nuclear fusion bomb that Team Supergirl has to worry about, Cadmus now has an entire list of aliens in the country. So yeah, this is turning more and more into the plot of The Winter Soldier. Remember when Alexander Pierce wanted to wipe out all of the dangerous people on earth and had Bucky Barnes (metal arm at his side)?

+Furthers the plot

-Soap opera-y

-I don't care about Jeremiah

Supergirl - S02E14 Homecoming

Warning: Spoilers
I'm not sure if I disappointed by this show anymore. Each week that goes by, I am hit with another episode that just doesn't do anything for me. While this wasn't the worst episode of Supergirl ever, they had a good opportunity to make this a big memorably episode, and it simply wasn't.

Each week I harp on about the relationship drama that had just taken place in the screen, and this week was no different. As a character, I feel sorry for Mon-El. While we have always had a suspicion that his going to turn out to be more than we think he is, and this episode added fuel to that fire, but as what he is now, he is getting the raw end of every situation. Only a few weeks ago we had Kara go up against everyone when she back Lena Luthor to be innocent, and when she was right, she rubbed it in everyone's faces. This week Mon-El does the logical thing and questions the timing of Jeremiah's return and he gets absolutely roasted by Kara. As someone watching the show, I'm struggling to see the writers reasoning of many actions by Kara in recent weeks. She is always the first one to stand up for what she believes in, no matter who is against her, but when someone stands up to her, she chucks a Supergirl hissy fit and discards their opinion.

While I'm still on Kara, I thought the way she turned once Mon-El and Winn came to her with evidence was just ridiculous. The fact that she still went up against Alex, even after the evidence that had turned her in the first place was discredited, and argued the same way Mon-El did, came off as a way for the writers to cause more drama.

As for the other stuff of the episode, we didn't get too much because this episode was mainly the Kara drama show. However, what little Cadmus stuff we did get I did enjoy. Cadmus hasn't been a strong force in this story for a long time, so it was great to finally get some progress in their story and to see the overall story starting to form an end point.

I don't know what else I can really say about this episode. As a show, this season needs a big episode soon or we are going to start comparing this to Arrow season 3. Despite the strong start this season had before the mid season break, everything from that point on has been a let down. I am prepared to say that at this point, season 1 is my favourite. Despite it having a slow start, once it found it's feet, the episode quality was way higher than what we have gotten in recent times.

Sloppy writing that requires the characters to act like morons in what could have been a good episode
tomgjcromwell30 October 2018
Warning: Spoilers
In this episode of Supergirl the spy comes in from the cold. After the obviously way too easy rescue of Jeremiah Danvers, the adopted father of Supergirl and father of Agent Alex Danvers, the characters proceed to act like total morons.

You have a former agent, Jeremiah Danvers, who was presumed dead, but actually captured by your deadly enemy for 14 years, so what does your top secret governmental organization do? Debrief him so you can learn all you can about your enemy? No. Do a full body medical scan since you know this deadly organization loves their cybernetic body mods? No. Surely you get your telepathic Martian to read his mind to see if he's been brainwashed or turned, right? "Not." as Harry Wells would say. At least you relieve him of duty so he can recover from being captured, undoubtedly a traumatic experience? Nope. Maybe you put him on observation because he's been gone for 14 years and things are going to be new and strange for him? No way.

What do you do instead? You have all your main characters, the smart-as-a-whip government agent, the superhuman from another planet, the incredibly powerful telepathic Martian, all decide to suddenly become very credulous and accept the return of the 14 year captive at face value. They become so hostile to even the idea they should be careful that they exile the only rational one in the room, playboy Mon-el.

This episode could have built up the tension of whether or not Jeremiah Danvers was a double agent. The writers could have flipped some of the tropes, but instead choose to make their main characters look like useful idiots. At this rate, Cadmus deserves to win because they're up against the secret government version of the three stooges.

Childish
Jackbv12329 May 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Sometimes I forget that this show is aimed at teens and children. I just didn't think it was written by children.

There are so many things wrong with this episode. For starters, not only was Mon-el right, but what J'onn did merits not just firing but probably trial for treason. But even then, there is no security agency in the world, much less corporations, where this could have happened. Protocols would hot have allowed it, at least not without serious investigation. And all those hurt feelings, Alex, grow up. Kara too. And so, then J'onn gets cautious after the cow has left the barn.

But that's not bad enough, everyone's reaction after the weapon raid went down was ridiculous. There were several minutes went bye before Supergirl reacted, and I thought she was fast. And there were other obvious reaction errors.

In general, Kara and Alex and others so frequently act way too childish. Kara's tantrums are frequent and definitely in the 10-12 year old range.

I know, I know, don't take it too seriously. But this one could have been written better by an 8 year old. And we sure are showing our teen viewers a good example of how to throw tantrums.

Illogical actions by government agents... (SPOILERS)
songod-950031 March 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Yes I know this is the CW and yes it is a comic book on TV BUT... if a gov agent with a machine gun got the drop on one of the major criminal threats against the entire world wouldn't it have been proper to shoot them? Yet there is Alex with a machine gun right in front of Ms. Luthor and she does not fire a shot. Unreal.

I am not advocating killing, no, but cutting her off at the knees would have solved a whole lot of future problems. Giving traitor dad one in the leg too would have been appropriate; and Supergirl could have handled whatever that anti-superman guy is. The el-train? If Alex had fired without stopping to talk, everything would have been taken care of.

This ep seemed like a nice way to get Dean Cane and Helen Slater back on the show. Not much more. Oh yeah the DEO database will factor in a future plot or two but that could have been hacked remotely by some super hacker at CADMUS.

Leave it to the CW to make a show titled "Supergirl" all about a man.

Warning: Spoilers
Also, thanks for normalizing abusive relationships. Mon El deliberately ignoring that Kara asked him not to talk about their relationship is abusive. It doesn't matter if he apologizes afterwards. Abusive relationships are full of apologies, but the important thing is that the abuse keeps happening anyway.

And where was James?

I'm tired. I'm officially done with this show. Not even sanvers or Chyler's incredible acting can redeem this for me.

Get out of kindergarden please!

For the one who thought a very mature and logical review could be only the phrase "Stop bashing SUPERGIRL".

Your kindergarden class must be so proud now.

This show is going downhill so fast even Barry Allen can't catch it.
