Memories of Othello

Souvenirs d'Othello (1995)

*** 1/2 (out of 4)

Actress Suzanne Cloutier discusses her role in Orson Welles' OTHELLO in this wonderfully entertaining interview that originally aired on Canadian television. The actress starts off discussing the role in French and the second half switches to English. I'm not sure why it was done that way but if you're a fan of the film or are just interested in its history then you're really going to love this interview. Cloutier tells some wonderful stories about the production as well as the various issues that Welles faced including the lack of money. She tells some great stories about starting to shoot a scene and then completed it in a different country! There are also some great stories told about the impact all of this had on Welles as well as what her relationship with the director was after filming. Clips from the film are shown throughout but there's no question it's the interview itself that makes this so special.
