A tiny Madame de Montespan is shown being laced into a very tight corset to attend a ball right before giving birth. However, the real de Montespan, who was THE fashion trend-setter during her "reign" as the leading lady of Versailles, often wore gowns that were very loose and unfettered. This looseness was specifically designed to provide her easier movement during her frequent pregnancies (seven with King Louis after two with her husband, for a total of nine). By her late thirties, after her many pregnancies and due to a love of food, the real Montespan was actually quite heavy.
