Quotes

  • Olivia Benson : Hey. What do we got?

Dominick Carisi Jr. : The victim's name is Jack Wilson. He's thirteen, he plays for the New York City Whitecaps.

    Olivia Benson : Which is...?

Dominick Carisi Jr. : The best youth hockey program in the state. Now, Jack's teammates had a game this morning, but they lost after he missed a last-second shot. Now, his mother noticed he was bleeding in the parking lot afterwards, drove him over here.

Olivia Benson : You talk to the doctor?

Dominick Carisi Jr. : Yeah. He said there was tearing in his rectum caused by a blunt instrument. Like a... hockey stick. Sounds like a hazing.

Olivia Benson : No, that sounds like sexual assault.

  • Olivia Benson : Let's all just settle down here, 'cause I'm... I'm sure we want the same thing.

Linda Wilson : No, fundamentally, we do not. I didn't want him to join this team in the first place.

Frank Wilson : That's not fair. I played on the Whitecaps when I was his age, and I...

Olivia Benson : I think arguing isn't... isn't gonna help your son.

Frank Wilson : Neither are two police officers hovering over him.

Dominick Carisi Jr. : Mr. Wilson, your son's injuries indicate he's a victim of a sexual assault.

Frank Wilson : Sexual assault? I saw the doctor on the way in. He said Jack will be fine. It was a... prank that went too far.

Olivia Benson : Mr. Wilson, that's... that's not how we saw it.

  • Olivia Benson : Hey, where are we with these Bang Brothers?

Odafin Tutuola : The Bash Brothers. Like McGwire and Canseco.

Dominick Carisi Jr. : No, like Reed and Portman.

[seeing Fin and Benson's blank looks]

Dominick Carisi Jr. : "Mighty Ducks 2"? Never mind. Anyway, these guys have never been in trouble with the law. They've got no juvenile records.

Olivia Benson : Okay. You checked the, uh... their contracts?

Odafin Tutuola : All signed and notarized. A lot of rules for an eighth grader.

  • Amanda Rollins : So, I've been taking a look at the security footage from the rink. Look. Here are players leaving the locker room, right? Most exit at the same time. But this is the last kid before... look; these two. Numbers 26 and 9. And they're hauling ass, too. It's ten seconds before our victim, Jack, comes out.

Odafin Tutuola : How can you tell that's him? You can't make out his face.

Amanda Rollins : Look. Look there, the sleeve. You see that? Number 14. That's Jack's number.

Olivia Benson : Who are these two kids that came out before him?

Dominick Carisi Jr. : [looking at the team roster]  Number 9, William Harris. Number 26, Timothy Brown. The Bash Brothers.

Olivia Benson : Okay. Bring 'em in. This wasn't a couple of kids playing grab-ass. We need answers.

  • Helen Turner : Sexual assault? My son? That's not... that doesn't sound right. He'd never hurt Jack. They're best friends.

Olivia Benson : Well, we have two eyewitnesses who say that they saw him do it. They claim that it was your idea and that... that you were the main aggressor.

Helen Turner : No. That isn't possible. And I don't want him answering any more questions about this. Not until my husband gets here.

Dominick Carisi Jr. : That... that's fine. That's fine. We can wait, right?

    Olivia Benson : Sure.

Dominick Carisi Jr. : [sitting down]  Your number's 99? You gotta be a big Gretzky fan, right?

Kyle Turner : He's the greatest there ever was.

Dominick Carisi Jr. : Yeah, he sure is. You miss 100% of the shots you don't take, right?

    Kyle Turner : Right.

Dominick Carisi Jr. : You really love hockey, don't you, Kyle?

Kyle Turner : It's the best sport there is.

Dominick Carisi Jr. : What if, um... what if it all went away?

Kyle Turner : [as his face falls, he turns to look at his mother]  What?

Olivia Benson : Well, we read your player contract. The one that you signed. It explicitly forbids violence against other players.

Dominick Carisi Jr. : Which is exactly what we're dealing with here.

Kyle Turner : No. That's not fair.

Helen Turner : You can't kick him off the Whitecaps.

Olivia Benson : You're right. We could do a lot worse. Like... like arrest him, for example.

Kyle Turner : Please, I... I don't know who told you what, but... but it's not true.

Olivia Benson : Well, then tell us what is true, Kyle.

  • Amanda Rollins : Hey. How'd arraignment go?

Dominick Carisi Jr. : Released into his parents' custody.

    Amanda Rollins : Hmm.

Dominick Carisi Jr. : I spoke to a lawyer at Corporation Counsel. She said she's getting a lot of pressure from upstairs to try Kyle as an adult.

Amanda Rollins : I thought we were just using that as a ploy. He's just a kid.

Dominick Carisi Jr. : There's been a lot more hazing incidents lately and they wanna make an example.

Amanda Rollins : I know he's our perp, but... the kid's a victim, too. There's no doubt that father's doing a number on him, and the mother, too.

Dominick Carisi Jr. : The mother?

Amanda Rollins : Yeah. What, she just sits there and watches it all happen, stands by silently? That's abuse.

Dominick Carisi Jr. : I get what you're saying, but it's... it's not that simple.

Amanda Rollins : Yeah, it is. Somebody lays a hand on Jesse, I'm gonna have something to say about, I guarantee it.

Dominick Carisi Jr. : Hold on. So this woman Helen, you don't think that she's a victim, to? You think her husband's sending her roses every day?

Amanda Rollins : Oh, come on.

Dominick Carisi Jr. : Well, it's not just about the physical abuse; it's the shame of it.

Amanda Rollins : I know that! And that's... that's why bullies keep getting away with being bullies.

Dominick Carisi Jr. : [his phone buzzes]  You're missing my point.

Amanda Rollins : I'm not. I'm hearing what you...

Dominick Carisi Jr. : [holding up his finger to silence her, he answers the call]  Hey, lieutenant. All right, I'll meet you down there.

    [hanging up]

Dominick Carisi Jr. : I gotta go meet Liv at the hospital, talk to Jack and his parents again.

[he starts to leave, then turns back]

Dominick Carisi Jr. : All I'm saying is that sometimes it's not as easy as you think to be a hero.

  • Olivia Benson : Excuse me. Hi, can you tell us where Jack Wilson's been moved to? He's not in his same room.

Nurse Sofia Perez : [checking her computer]  Are you with the Special Victims Unit?

    Olivia Benson : Yes.

Nurse Sofia Perez : Didn't someone call you?

Dominick Carisi Jr. : Call us about what?

Nurse Sofia Perez : Jack. He died twenty minutes ago.

  • Dominick Carisi Jr. : Rollins, we gotta go.

Amanda Rollins : What's going on?

Dominick Carisi Jr. : Jim Turner just beat the hell out of Adam.

  • Odafin Tutuola : Nice story, man. I didn't know you were so quick on your feet.

Dominick Carisi Jr. : You gotta do what you gotta do, right?

    Odafin Tutuola : That's right.

Amanda Rollins : You didn't make that up, though, did you? That really happened to you, didn't it?

  • Olivia Benson : All those players in that locker room? Someone had to have seen something.

Dominick Carisi Jr. : Yeah. It's a team full of young boys. Nobody wants to get out in front of this. Even the victim won't talk.

Olivia Benson : Okay, so call Rollins, uh... have her head over to the rink with Fin. Talk to refs, talk to coaches, and I want the name of every single player on either team.

Dominick Carisi Jr. : Got it.

Olivia Benson : And have CSU head over to that locker room.

  • Amanda Rollins : Kyle Turner?

    Kyle Turner : Yeah.

Adam Turner : Who are they?

Helen Turner : Adam, take Mark upstairs and call your father. What is this about?

Amanda Rollins : We need to talk to your son down at the precinct.

Dominick Carisi Jr. : And we're gonna need his hockey sticks. All of them.

    Helen Turner : What? Why?

Dominick Carisi Jr. : Because he's under investigation for sexually assaulting his teammate.

  • Olivia Benson : Excuse me, Doctor, I'm Lieutenant Benson. This is Detective Carisi. We saw you in there with Kyle Turner. How is he?

Dr. Stephen Hale : Spiral fracture. He'll be okay. Uh, was he assaulted?

Olivia Benson : Uh, actually, he's a person of interest in a case that we're investigating.

    Dr. Stephen Hale : I... I see.

Olivia Benson : And you asked if he was assaulted, why?

Dr. Stephen Hale : His injury suggests someone twisted his wrist, violently.

Dominick Carisi Jr. : Which is hard to do playing hockey.

Dr. Stephen Hale : Hard, not impossible.

Dominick Carisi Jr. : Can we take a look at the kid's medical records?

Dr. Stephen Hale : Not without a subpoena. There are laws...

Dominick Carisi Jr. : We're SVU. We know the laws.

Olivia Benson : We also know that as a mandatory reporter, you're required to call us if you have any suspicions, so... do you?

Dr. Stephen Hale : [glancing back at Kyle]  I found a few other spiral fractures on his x-ray. It appears as if they went untreated.

Olivia Benson : So you're saying that it is possible that Kyle has been physically abused.

  • Amanda Rollins : Adam, we're getting you some help, okay?

Dominick Carisi Jr. : What happened?

Helen Turner : Adam just kept pushing Jim's buttons. I couldn't stop it.

Dominick Carisi Jr. : Where's your husband right now?

Helen Turner : He rant out of here. I don't know.

Dominick Carisi Jr. : Where's Mark?

Helen Turner : He's not here. I sent him to my mom's.

Amanda Rollins : [as Adam tries to sit up]  Listen... no, no, no. Listen, Adam, don't move. We're getting you an ambulance. All right, baby? Stay right there.

Adam Turner : [pointing to his camera phone propped up nearby]  You needed to a way to get Kyle to talk. This is it. I got it on video.

    [to Kyle]

Adam Turner : Don't protect him anymore. He doesn't deserve it.

  • Jim Turner : What is this? What are you doing here?

Olivia Benson : We have a warrant for your son's arrest.

Jim Turner : You're joking, right?

Helen Turner : Jim, what's going on?

Jim Turner : I got this, Helen. Kyle's still with the doctor. I know it doesn't matter to you, but he might have broken his wrist.

Dominick Carisi Jr. : How did that happen?

Jim Turner : Hockey practice. You know, we got enough going on right now without you harassing us, okay?

Olivia Benson : You don't want to talk to us, that's your prerogative, but we are gonna wait here until your son is released. And then we're going to arrest him.

  • Dominick Carisi Jr. : Hey, Kyle. How you doing?

Olivia Benson : Your wrist must still be hurting, but Kyle, we need to take you down to the police station.

Kyle Turner : Because of what happened to Jack?

    Dominick Carisi Jr. : Mm-hmm.

    Olivia Benson : Yes.

Kyle Turner : Do we have to go now? Where's my dad? I... I need to talk to him.

Dominick Carisi Jr. : Don't worry, he's... he's gonna come with us, too. Okay? So how'd that happen?

Kyle Turner : I got tripped up at practice. Landed on my wrist sort of funny.

Olivia Benson : At practice? Okay, so somebody else can verify that?

Kyle Turner : Well, it was only me and my dad. He... he didn't see it, though, when I fell.

Dominick Carisi Jr. : Okay, well here's the thing, Kyle. We don't think you're telling us the truth. And the doctor's pretty sure that's not the way it happened.

Olivia Benson : And your medical records show that... that this isn't the first time that you've been injured this way.

Kyle Turner : I... I don't know what you mean.

Dominick Carisi Jr. : Kyle, has anybody been getting physical with you? At home? Grabbing at you?

    Olivia Benson : N... no! I... I fell.

Olivia Benson : Kyle, listen to me. We wanna help you. And there's a real chance that you could go to prison for what you did to Jack.

Kyle Turner : But... I thought only adults could go to prison.

Olivia Benson : Nope. Sometimes kids go, too. So you need to talk to us and tell us if somebody put you up to this or if somebody threatened you. You need to tell us that, okay?

  • Jim Turner : What the hell are you... how many times do I have to tell you you do not have my permission...

Dominick Carisi Jr. : Hold on. Look, we have more questions.

Jim Turner : Not without our consent.

Olivia Benson : Actually, we don't need your consent in this situation.

Helen Turner : What are you talking about?

Olivia Benson : We have evidence that your son has been abused. Physically.

Jim Turner : [derisive laugh]  Abused? That's ridiculous.

Kyle Turner : I... I already told them that I fell.

Olivia Benson : So we have two choices. I can arrest Kyle right here, right now. Or we can all go down to the precinct and talk this through.

Dominick Carisi Jr. : Your other sons, too.

Jim Turner : Fine. Let's talk it through. Get to the bottom of this. 'Cause we got nothing to hide.

  • Dominick Carisi Jr. : Listen... what you did to Jack, they're gonna lock you up for that. But if you can tell me who really hurt your wrist...

    Kyle Turner : I can't!

Dominick Carisi Jr. : Listen, if you're afraid of your dad, we can keep you safe. We can get you away from him.

Kyle Turner : I love my dad. He's just... helping me become a better player.

Dominick Carisi Jr. : Yeah, well... it's not gonna matter when you're in prison. You understand?

  • Linda Wilson : He had a fever. Um... they said all he needed was fluids, some antibiotics. We didn't think anything of it.

Frank Wilson : Then his blood pressure started dropping. They rushed him to intensive care, but... they said it was an infection.

Olivia Benson : We are so sorry for your loss.

Frank Wilson : Someone needs to pay for this.

Dominick Carisi Jr. : We'll be charging Kyle Turner with manslaughter.

Frank Wilson : Go ahead, charge Kyle. But it's his sick son of a bitch father you should really be after.

Dominick Carisi Jr. : How do you mean?

Frank Wilson : Jim got into Kyle's head, turned him into a bully. I've seen what he did to the older one, too. Who knows how long Mark has before that lunatic starts in on him?

Olivia Benson : You've witnessed abuse?

Frank Wilson : He's always berating, pushing, grabbing.

Olivia Benson : Have you ever seen him hit Kyle?

Frank Wilson : I didn't have to. With guys like him, you can tell. I didn't think it was my business, but all that pressure and rage... it was only a matter of time. If you ask me, his father is just as responsible as Kyle is for my son's death.

  • Dominick Carisi Jr. : We've got TARU, our tech experts, retrieving the audio from this video. Pretty soon, we're gonna know exactly what your dad said to you.

Olivia Benson : If he told you to hurt Jack...

    Kyle Turner : He didn't.

Attorney Ryan Egan : You're sure about that?

    Kyle Turner : Yes.

Dominick Carisi Jr. : Listen, Kyle, Jack is dead. And somebody's gotta be held responsible for that.

Attorney Ryan Egan : He answered the question, Detective.

Adam Turner : Just tell them the truth, for god's sake!

    Helen Turner : Adam, stop!

Adam Turner : But, mom! I... I mean...

Helen Turner : Kyle will be fine. Everything is going to be okay.

Olivia Benson : Mrs. Turner, everything will not be okay. That ship sailed once Jack stopped breathing. If you wanna help your son, have him tell the truth.

  • Dominick Carisi Jr. : You know something, Kyle? When I first saw Jack laid up in that hospital, I was pretty upset. I was angry at who did it. Because right away, Jack reminded me of... of me. You see, I was the scrawny kid way back when. Guys in the neighborhood, they used to pick on me every day. The worst was this... this kid, Bobby Bianchi. One day when we were at school, he grabbed me by the hair and he... he shoved my face through a plate glass window.

Kyle Turner : Must have hurt.

Dominick Carisi Jr. : I was bleeding, I was all cut up. The principal asked what happened. Now, I could have put an end to it. Right there. All I had do was say Bobby's name. But I didn't. Because I didn't want Bobby to get into trouble.

Kyle Turner : He got away with it?

Dominick Carisi Jr. : That's right. Nobody ever knew what happened. You know where Bobby is now? He's in Sing Sing for stabbing some poor sap to death during a bar fight. And I always think "What if I would have said something? What if I just would have said something? Maybe... that guy would still be alive." I missed my shot, Kyle. Not a day goes by that I don't regret it. But this is your shot. Right now.

Olivia Benson : And if not for you, Kyle, do it for your little brother. Because what happens when he gets older and you're not around to look after him? Hmm? You ever think about that? Look, if you're willing to talk to the judge, we can get this case sent back to family court, and you will get a reduced charge. Which means do less time.

Kyle Turner : Okay. I'll do it.
