  Olivia Benson : My first bust, Patrick was upstairs securing two dealers. I was downstairs, arresting the third, by myself in another room. There was a pile of cash, a pile of drugs. The perp accuses me of stealing it. Obviously, I didn't, but IAB came after me hard until Patrick testified that he was with me the whole time.

  Rafael Barba : He lied to save your ass. In my world, that gets you disbarred.

  Olivia Benson : Yeah, in my world, it gets you a promotion.

  [to Patrick] 

  Olivia Benson : Hey, I thought we agreed to a deal. Did you tell him to back out?

  Patrick Griffin : I told him to think about it. That if he raped that girl, he should admit it, take the punishment. He doesn't think he did, so I stand behind his decision.

  Olivia Benson : It doesn't matter if he thinks that he's guilty, Patrick. The law is the law. The evidence is strong.

  Patrick Griffin : That's why his mother and I are gonna sit here in this courtroom, every day and look every juror in the eye and make sure that they know that we believe in our son, and refuse to let him be railroaded by you or anyone else.

• Patrick Griffin : [to Olivia]  So now what? You arrest me for witness tampering?

  Olivia Benson : No. I talked to Barba, but, Patrick, what were you thinking?

  Patrick Griffin : That I needed to save my son. No matter what. No matter how. I'm a cop. I protect people I don't even know and here's my son, my best friend in the whole world, about to go down for 10 seconds of stupidity. So I thought if the jury just heard a witness say that she was awake, there'd be reasonable doubt.

  Olivia Benson : I'm just gonna pretend that I didn't hear any of that.

  Patrick Griffin : This whole system is rigged against him. Protesters. I could see the way the women on that jury box were looking at him. Even now, they want Ellis' head on a platter, okay? I failed him.

  Olivia Benson : You're still his father. No matter how he feels about you, about himself, for these next 2 years, be there for him. I'm sorry, Patrick. If there were something I could have done...

  Patrick Griffin : There was. And you chose not to do it. I went to bat for you.

  Olivia Benson : And the truth is, I wish you hadn't. I wish you would have just told the truth.

  Patrick Griffin : Then you are looking at the fight of your life. You and the DA and your whole damn department.
