Relationships and commitments
hof-47 October 2019
Eva, a woman in her twenties is a successful graphic designer and a visual artist in search of recognition. She goes back to her birthplace, the Andalusian coastal city of Málaga for a vacation. She rekindles (to a degree) her uneasy relationship with her mother and reconnects with her adolescence friends, especially with her best friend Gema. She also faces (by chance or by choice) Rubén, a member of her former circle of friends, with whom she had a friendship/love liaison that ended abruptly for no clear reason.

I liked this film. It touches upon subjects of human interest such as the intersection of friendship and love, the difficulties of commitment, the awkward passage from post-teenager to adult and the search for a place of one's choice in society. I did not particularly care for the music, but this is probably a generational opinion. The movie depends critically on acting, and the protagonists (Blanca Parés, Ignacio Montes) rise brilliantly to the challenge. The rest of the cast is also excellent. Cinematography by Jacobo Herrero fits the action perfectly.

This is the the first feature movie by director Carmen Blanco, who also wrote the script. A very auspicious debut. I hope to see more of her work soon.

A friendship, but not really

He loves, she not. Like a friendship, always one of both falls in love.
