Mower Minions does well in being pretty entertaining for its brief time
tavm13 July 2016
This Illumination computer-animated short preceded the company's feature of The Secret Lives of Pets. It stars those Despicable Me Minions who-after watching a commercial for Barb's Blender-decide to work to save for that. So they offer themselves to work at an old folks' yard. You can count on many disasters to occur for them as a result...I'll stop there and just say this was quite funny in the short time it took to get in the plot. Nothing seemed wasted during the whole thing and I found myself quite chuckling during much of it. A scene involving one of those statue gnomes was a highlight of this one. Really, all I'll say now is Mower Minions does the trick of being entertaining during its brief time.

Poor minions trying to get money to buy a blender they want.
XueHuaBingYu24 January 2022
Mower Minions can't be said as one of the best short films I've ever seen but it is a funny short film. I love minions trying to get money to buy a new blender, but it's too bad for them couldn't enjoy the moment after they bought one and a new one came out. So, they have to start all over to get money to buy a new advanced model. Surely, it goes in a loop. In the real life, I feel like it's kind of like Samsung.

Anyway, although I don't think that this is one of the best short films I've ever seen, but it does have some funny moments. It's worth to watch.

harmless fun

The Minions need money to buy a blender as seen on TV. They steal a trailer of grounds-keeping gear and get a job mowing the lawn at a retirement home. It's a short of the Minions and their antics with lawn care. It's simple. It's a little harmless fun.

Anyone who's tried to stare down a garden gnome . . .

Warning: Spoilers
. . . will appreciate the effort to which the creators of MOWER MINIONS have gone in creating a sense of verisimilitude between their animated short--which precedes THE SECRET LIFE OF PETS, a cartoon feature--and Real Life. Set mostly at an Old Fogey's out-to-pasture home (in which the inmates seem to be running the asylum), MINIONS is that rare comedy that produced at least as many chuckles among audience members as from the codgers depicted on-screen. (In fact, at our viewing, several Real Life geezers could be heard to say as the walked out that they actually enjoyed MINIONS more than PETS, but I suppose that PETS fans can argue that the geriatric crowd does not provide a valid sounding board, since their attention spans often are shorter than those of toddlers--and maybe not up to the title character of FINDING DORY's low bar). But just as a pop song cannot totally flop if there are cow bells on the track somewhere, you just know that a cartoon has a lot going for it if it includes a garden gnome or two (though a cow bell rock opera would be totally amiss; ditto GNOMEO & JULIET--they both prove that there can be too much of a good thing!).

Minions in your front yard

Warning: Spoilers
"Mower Minions" is a 4-minute animated short film that is shown in theaters these days before a full feature animated movie about pets. The title already gives away that this is another Minions short film and there are quite a few these days already. Here the Minions watch television and see a spot that promotes a banana blender, that the gang immediately wants to purchase. But where is the money? The Minions decide to do some lawn-mowing for a bunch of old people and of course it all goes wrong that can go wrong including barbecue grill explosions, garden gnomes bursting and of course trouble with the mower itself too. All in all, I would say that this one was more chaotic than funny. But at least the Minions got their reward in the end, even if they did not succeed with their initial task. I wish i could have liked the action as much as the senior citizens did, but nope. I give this one a thumbs-down and don't recommend the watch. It seems to get more and more difficult to create entertaining story lines around these wee yellow fellas. I just hope "Despicable Me 3" next year will get more entertaining again.

'MOWER MINIONS': Two and a Half Stars (Out of Five)

A 4-minute animated short film; which precedes 'THE SECRET LIVES OF PETS' (in theaters). This one is yet another tale revolving around the super-villain Gru's minions (from the 'DESPICABLE ME' franchise). In this short, they're trying to earn money for a blender, that they saw advertised on TV, by mowing the lawn for a local old people's home. They (of course) have a lot of trouble doing so. It was directed by first time filmmaker Glenn McCoy. The short is mildly amusing, and I'm sure children will enjoy it a lot more. At 4-minutes, you can't really find it too annoying either (I didn't). I've read that several older viewers have found it more entertaining than the feature it accompanies. I definitely wouldn't say that, but it is mildly enjoyable.

Hilarious

This is a short animation that tells a group of minions who need to raise twenty dollars to buy a blender. They go to a residential home for the elderly, and ask for money. When their plan fails, they end up doing mischievous acts on the lawn.

"Mower Minions" is only four minutes long, but it manages to pack many things into it. There are so many family friendly jokes in such a short time frame, that I find very entertaining and impressive. I like the gnome joke a lot, and the bag breathing joke too. I find the short animation very funny. It is actually way better than the subsequent animation, "The Secret Life of Pets".
