Slightly Better Than the Typical TV Romance Movie
tiffanytallent198123 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Paramedic Lilly meets rich guy Jeff as he parks in front of a fire hydrant. He acts like it's no big deal to park there while he shops, so she has his car towed. Later, Jeff's dad is injured at home and Lilly's ambulance is the one to respond. The dad is saved and Jeff is impressed so he asks out Lilly, who quickly turns him down. He is completely shocked that any woman would refuse a date with him. This causes Jeff to make a huge donation at the hospital where Lilly works. His only request is that he be able to ride along in an ambulance for a few days. As he and Lilly spend time together on calls, they also start to date. She realizes that although Jeff is extremely wealthy, he is a philanthropist with a big heart. Miscommunication, prejudice, and insecurities almost work to split them up for good, but the movie ends in love.

There are also some good supporting characters in the movie, including Jeff's parental figures, Lilly's paramedic partner, as well as Lilly's roommate and her boyfriend. The acting is good with the main cast and fair with some others. I enjoyed the plot, but it still felt like something was lacking. Maybe it's the fact that Lilly was more closed off and reserved than your typical romantic lead. But in some ways I actually liked that because not every woman has a huge bubbly personality. Overall, it's a pretty decent movie if you like those Hallmarkesque romances.

Good acting, good story and good character development
sm-3072418 February 2021
Film quality and acting was very good. Not a low-budget movie. Secondary stories are engaging with good actors/actresses as well. A feel-good movie that doesn't fail.

Small, Medium, and Large.
rebekahrox7 June 2020
As is typical with PixL movies, this has a lot more going on than the typical Hallmark. In this one we have 3 romances: Small (the dad and his housekeeper), medium (the black sidekick) and Large. Large being the main story of a spoiled entitled rich boy who falls for a hardworking EMT with her eye on medical school. Because of the juggling of 3 plot-lines, plus the getting into Medical school story, this story percolates along at quite a good pace and kept my interest. I must say this 2017 story was a bit ahead of its time. The worthy EMT was denied a place in med school once because she was jumped over by someone way down the waiting list because of his/her large donation to the school. She is understandably bitter about that. This plot point provides the conflict when she thinks rich boy did the same for her. it's a good thing Hallmark didn't make this one with their one time regular Lori Loughlin as a cast member.

Okay romance
herrcarter-9216120 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This movie was a romance in the style of Hallmark. Reasonably entertaining, but nothing too special. It was a tale of a man and woman from different social classes who spent a whole movie fighting their class differences to finally get together. Such stories are better set in someplace like Jane Austen's Britain, where such class differences were everything. They sort of fall flat in modern America, because nobody really cares any more if a rich guy dates a poor girl (really, middle-class girl, in this case).

To be fair, I liked the performances in this movie. Adelaide Kaine, as our heroine Lily, was especially good. She was a tough, no-nonsense woman, who, at the same time, was very beautiful and feminine. She was likable and relatable. Benjamin Hollingsworth was pretty good as Jeff, though I wouldn't say there was anything that special about him. He's reasonably good-looking, but not so much that his apparent status as a sought-after ladies' man was really believable.

One thing I didn't really like was that Jeff's only apparent job was to spend massive amounts of his dad's money on philanthropic causes. I guess the point of that was to make the spoiled, rich kid appear to really be a nice, good guy. It seemed a bit lame to me, though. I thought the initial combative phase of Jeff and Lily's relationship , a seeming requirement for most rom-coms, was a bit extreme. What guy, wealthy entitled jerk or not, would actually park in a handicapped spot, and what woman would be such a jerk as to get his car towed? Why she later seemed so unhesitant to get together with him seemed, likewise, a bit extreme. And the potentially relationship-ending assumptions, such as her assuming that he had pulled strings to get her into med school, or that the cute blond girl was his girlfriend, were a bit much. The subplot where her roommate Megan thought her boyfriend was cheating on her was a little over-the-top, too. It was kind of unbelievable that she wouldn't just confront him with what she perceived as obvious signs of cheating, rather than ghost him.

The romance between Lily and Jeff was pretty good, as was their chemistry. You wanted them to get together. I wanted to like this movie, and I mostly did, though some plot points seemed to be handled a bit clumsily. Oh, and her final line, where she said, "When I first met you, I thought you were the most handsome man I'd ever met" was really cheesy. He's not that good looking, and that's not why she fell for him anyway. Otherwise, an okay, romance, but nothing too special.

Corny and boring, can't believe I made it to the end
baomayaa7 March 2017
I don't recommend this movie, rich boy falls in love with a "Regular" girl who doesn't want his money because she works for every penny she has. Bla bla life is difficult for everyone, help Im in love but I don't wanna be in love!! Whatever, horrible acting skills, from the roommate who is always right where you left her to ask you how you're doing, her bf who's really bad at acting busy, the work partner who is an idiot but ends up giving the best advice, to the rich guy who seems to have nothing better to do but think about this girl who rejected him (What! She said NO? how is it possible? Nobody ever says no to me because I'm rich, ugh. I just kept rolling my eyes throughout the whole movie, I would give it a 1, gave it a 3 for the effort. MOVIE SUCKS!!

Movie is sweet and gentle, not boring! Hallmark quality.
lindajean404425 March 2017
I disagree with the reviews that said this was a boring movie. Those reviewers should not view Pixl movies, for they are all "old fashioned" with no swear words, no nudity, no sex, no murders. So, naturally this is a boring movie for some.

It is not often I watch a Pixl movie, but when I do it is because I want to watch a movie that will leave me calm and refreshed. This movie does just that. The two main actors come across so natural and lovable. I am pleased they consented to star in this simple, yet sweet production. Everything about this movie was nice, the photography, the co-stars and the directing. It was as good as any romantic Hallmark movie. If you like Hallmark, then you will like this movie.

Too predictable, too traditional
danxo7 March 2017
My, when we were given to preview this film a on 3, March, 2017, we thought it was a HALLMARK film. Turn out to be a PixL Film. The film is OK, if you are 100 years old, and will be able to predict everything about the outcome. This film would have been a lot better if the people that created it would stop this boy / girl love story that has no mystery in it (if you're going to make a film like this, at least keep us guessing, as anyone with half-a-brain can see where the plot is going.. especially in this film!)

We sat and predicted everything that would happen in the film about 10

to 15 minutes into the plot.

The movie starts with many beautiful scenes of Los Angeles, and then goes into the man is dumb and the girl is smart routine which is the POPULAR these days (but sexist)- and goes into the boring old plot. We were surprised they did not include the Muscular woman beating up a guy - but this is a PG film with no violence which is a good thing. ... We liked the clean language and the non-violence that most films ignore today. We encourage film makers to make films more acceptable to all viewers -and profanity and so much violence should be curtailed.

There are 2 sub- plots entwined into the film, and where two men get on their knee giving out a ring (OMG, how boorish - this is 2017 not 1017)

Then the film goes into the rich handsome guy-falls in love with tough pretty girl routine. She rejects him, and then they get back together again after "forgiving" their ways. OK. It is just that this plot routine is getting too old, too boring, and far to predictable. Geez, Can't you producers and writers be more creative??? One of our associates, here at the WaltersJudsonGroup actually Fell Asleep half way into the movie!

Anyone giving this film "10 stars" has be employed by the studio, have brain damage, is on drugs, or has no education on film reviewing. Also, reviewers can be bought. 3 stars for effort, and clean language. DJT

I loved it..
linda-plant25 March 2019
I agree with those that found this a nice gentle film to watch. You don't watch Larry Levinson Productions if you want sex, thrills or anxiety inducing storylines.

I enjoyed this mainly because of the actors in the lead. Neither were shouty, hyperactive or screeching their delivery, unlike a lot of the Hallmark female stable of actors. The storyline was watchable, and living in the UK, we don't use the term 'it sucks', we generally say 'its rubbish', which this was not.

Half Baked Script, Half Baked Acting
sean-4355410 June 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Made to watch by the wife. Kept thinking, when does this movie actually start getting into its rhythm/story line Such a poor, predictable script, I cannot believe this move was funded, let alone construed. Probably in the top 10 for corny and cringe worthy movies. So predictable - boy meets girl, girl hates then grows to love guy

The worse part - the acting is atrocious, they simply cannot act. The emotion is lacking. They look/sound like 1st year NIDA students. -- that bad.

The main characters look like they are reading their lines via TelePromter as they perform . No emotion, no passion and worst of all, the wooden non verbal.

I thought this was a school project

boring
vriddheeg7 March 2017
Why did I even think it was gonna be a good movie?

The soundtrack of the movie is catchy, but the script is feeble. The story is nothing new, in fact, the roommate's story is much more romantic, and that is what kept me through the movie.

Absolutely Beautiful!
vipul-mogre8 June 2018
The movie itself is predictable as many have suggested but that is hardly an issue when you watch it. The actress is so beautiful, man! Those big eyes, smile and skin, you do not immediately fall in love with her in her uniform but when she wears something else, oh boy!

The locations in the film are also very beautiful, nice and sunny, it feels great to see such places. The emotions are good in the film and the cinematography is also great.

TV Movies are not for everyone. As one of the reviewer said, if you want dirty, curse word, sex, nudity movies, then do not come to Hallmark or PixL movies. Rather watch adult films.

Such movies are absolutely beautiful even if the story is predictable and there is nothing new but because there are no obscenities, it is worth a watch in today's world when everything just revolves around sex.

Must watch, you will fall in love with the actress by the end of the movie haha :)

Terrible
mi_banda_811 February 2020
That was very painful to watch. The acting is so poor it did seem to be a school project. Plot was obvious, but so are most of romantic movies - the problem here is much deeper than an obvious plot. Save yourself the time and skip this one.

Predictible movies can be enjoyable
Jackbv1234 September 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This story was absolutely predictable. Actually the story followed 3 couples and all of them were predictable.

The roommate's story was the old misunderstanding which I won't expand on, but you've seen it almost exactly many times.

I kind of enjoyed Rex and Veronica's story. It didn't occupy a lot of screen time but it was a nice story even if you knew it was coming.

With Lilly, I saw the source of the conflict as soon as...., well won't spoil that either, but it was obvious pretty early. Stupid me, I totally missed the source of the resolution even though it was pretty obvious too. Nevertheless, I enjoyed Lilly and Jeff together. Another reviewer said they were so natural and I think that was it.

My one complaint is when people like Lilly cut their nose off to spite their face because of what comes down to pride. There is a reason for the well known proverb: it's not what you know, it's who you know. It's not right, but it's life. She got dinged by it once, so accept it when what goes around comes around. It's not like she wasn't qualified and it happens a lot that the most qualified doesn't get the reward. Live with it when you get it. Or not - just whine about how unfair life is. This rant is a little harsh, but I get so tired of how many movies and books do this.

Oh well -- I needed a nap
toncincin13 February 2020
Hallmark Drama just aired this movie under the name "The Big Grab." OMG - what a terrible movie. The acting was really bad. The storyline was silly. Come on! I've seen Ben Hollingsworth in much better movies. None of the other actors seemed familiar - maybe because they cannot act! I watched 45 minutes of it (on my DVR - so that's actual movie time) and fell asleep. It was soooi boring. No wonder I'd never seen it before - and I seldom miss a Hallmark movie ... could possibly be why they changed the name. People won't remember they watched it before.

Nice cast elevates this rom com
phd_travel25 September 2018
The cast is likeable and attractive and should be familiar to some. Adelaide Kane of Reign is beautiful here. Nice to see her in modern clothes instead. Ben Hollingsworth plays a playboy who falls for a paramedic.

The playboy who finds the one who will set him on the straight and narrow isn't new but the story is cute without being annoying. The subplot about the friends is pretty obvious too.

Pixl movies generally use pretty and charismatic cast members, not like the occasional over the hill actors in Hallmark.

The requisite little drama near the end is handled in a less cliched manner than usual. For this type of movie better than average.

Really liked it
ab-8403819 October 2022
Can't Buy My Love is a super cute feel good movie about a hard working female paramedic named Lilly and a rich entitled guy named Jeff. Their meeting is pretty funny and original. Loved it!

The actors do a fine job and the supporting cast and storylines are not the average for this type of film. I really enjoyed the whole story, it was very fast paced and kept my interest. I would very Highly recommend this cute movie for all ages that want to see a clean, Family friendly movie with no more than a kiss, or holding hands, as the extent of what was shown between the two romantic leads Lilly and Jeff.

Good plot and entertaining
zakuro2215 June 2019
Such a refreshing plot and movie compared to typical Hallmark movies. I enjoyed this movie very much and wanted to see how it would end. Both stories of the best friends were good but I vote for the rich guy and EMT. The acting was good and I especially like the way the rich family was portrayed. I highly recommend this movie if you're tired of the same old Hallmark plots.

A well made film, with good actors who convey good feelings.
fatoadg2 April 2022
A well made film, with good actors who convey good feelings. Lilly a paramedic meets a rich and arrogant young man who parks in a no-parking. Lilly tries to make Ben think about moving the car, he doesn't want to know. Knowing the importance of the place during emergencies, she decides to notify the police who have the car removed. They meet again due to an emergency of Ben's father and from there the fight to win over Lilly arises because she snubbed him and refused the invitation to dinner after saving her father. Beautiful friendship between Lilly and Megan who comfort and advise each other to overcome the difficulties of life.

L'amour ne s'achète pas
marylaydan23 July 2018
Thank you for sharing cried i it's a very beautiful story full of emotion love is this outlet that allows us to create our own bule in this ugly world Lili and Jeff no matter how much you live in two opposing worlds, love is that intense feeling that is there, which brings differences together. Fortunately Lilie you have listened to your heart, it is this part of ourselves that almost never lies to us. And yes, money does not buy everything in life. Just as we must not judge people from our first impression, the appearance is often very misleading. Life is short, everyone should enjoy it as intensively as possible. Long live love, long live the meeting of two tender hearts sharing beautiful feelings.
