may have missed something

Warning: Spoilers
So another season comes to a close and am glad Supergirl lives to see another one, and it would appear stronger than ever. I am not sure why she needed to prove to be stronger than Superman (who, by the way, she would have probably called by his name Kal El instead of yelling "Superman" upon his entrance) as it seems incredible. I am also not sure how she overcame the krytopnite blood, what Mon El thought of his mom getting turned to lead, what Kara and friend were doing standing around the DEO while Rome burned, where Perry White type chief went (or President alien for that matter) , why award winning photographer Jimmy doesn't take photos, or video for that matter, and where does Kara go from here? Nice the Luthors reconciled though still don't trust mom much, am sure she will pull another fast one before we're through. Hope series continues with interesting stories and heroics and plays less to specific agendas and demographics which seemed forced and unnatural. Have relationships of all kinds, just don't detract from the Supergirl's mission...protect National City.

Fight of the Century
ThomasDrufke23 May 2017
I've said from the beginning that I'm not and never will be the target audience for this show. However, I've always found there to be at least some enjoyment in tuning in week to week. Season 2 was a massive step up from the first, and tonight only further exemplified that notion.

With Rhea taking her final attack on the city to a personal level, bringing in Superman, Kara was forced to make some extremely difficult choices late in the game. Luckily, the so-called 'fight' with Supes only lasted a matter of minutes and didn't occupy the entire story. Instead, the man and girl of steel took down Rhea together, with the help of Jonn, Mon-El, and even the Luthor sisters. I was thrilled to see the Luthor's not end this season in a typically evil place to end the season, and I think Lena will actually have a series regular role next year, so that was nice to see. Jonn found his love again with M'gonn, who apparently knows several white martians who are willing to sacrifice their life for National City, and even everyone's favorite Cat Grant, played a role in helping Kara in the finale.

The episode felt very much like the writers were trying to pull out all of their big guns for the last episode to end with a bang. It's not that they didn't succeed in that, but I just don't think I ever cared for the person who they were taking on, hence the conflict feeling more minuscule than it should. For a CW show, Teri Hatcher's performance is perfectly fine, but because her presence felt like a third act shot in the dark, it was hard to ever grapple onto something important with Rhea.

With that said, Mon-El sure took the brunt of the pain this week as he was forced to ship off due to the Luthor's Daxamite device killing all those with those genetics. Not sure anyone truly believes he'll be gone more than a few episodes next season, but it's something to certainly test him and Kara's relationship. But please, if he is coming back, let's not take all of season 3 in the same direction they took the romance this season. Either they're together, or they're not. Stop flip flopping.

Overall, this season is enjoyable. While they could have used Superman more (or just better), there's enough here to keep me watching. But I think we can all agree that every DC-CW show, except for Arrow, could use another small overhaul next year.

Supergirl - S02E22 Nevertheless, She Persists
j_forbesy23 May 2017
Warning: Spoilers
There is no denying that for me, this season of Supergirl has had it's fair share of ups and down, mainly the ups in the first half of the season and the downs in the second half. However after what was a fairly solid episode last week, I had hope that they could pull off a strong finale and save some of what the second half produced.

Firstly I'll start with Superman. When I first saw that he was brainwashed, I was a little disappointed. The end of last season we had the same thing happen and it ruled Superman out of action, and I was worried it was going to do a similar thing again this episode. Thankfully it was just the opening 5 minutes and we got the Superman we loved in the opening few episodes of the season. This was of course after a big fight between the cousins, which I am very undecided about. On one had, it was great to watch these two character go at it, but on the other hand, the show hasn't done a great job at convincing me that Kara could actually better Superman. This was barely 2 years of superhero experience against what I can assume is over 10-15 years experience. Regardless of strength, Kara shouldn't of been able to match Superman let alone beat him. I will also add that I really hope we do get Zodd at some point in the future because after the hype I saw leading up to him, it was a bit of a cope out. Despite the opening however, I thought Superman was again great and I do really look do really look forward to seeing more of him in the future.

Something small I really liked about this episode was some consistency in Kara's character. When she first agreed for Lena to create the Lead machine, I was a bit annoyed because only last week she had an opportunity to wipe out the Daxamites but didn't take it because of Mon-El and Lena, but this week she did. However it did flip on me and I like how they addressed the Kara wanted to have it as a last resort. It is the sort of consistencies that go over episodes week to week that I didn't feel were present so much in the second half of the season and because of that really harmed Kara as a character.

Similar to last week, I have to mention the action in this episode. I thought it was choreographed and shot fantastically. We had a lot of close fighting scene that looked great but I thought there were a few Avengers style pan shots of action that really took the cake for me. One thing these shows never let down on is the action and it was on point again for the finale.

Over the last two episode we have gotten a fair few characters coming back across all three shows and this episode followed that tradition. As well as the inclusion of Superman, we got Miss Martian back, but this time with all her White Martian friends. This again is a bit of a love/hate moment for me because while it was cool seeing some Martians in action as well as getting the return of Megan, who is someone I really enjoyed from the first half of the season, I still thought it felt a little out of place. If they had a bigger impact on then maybe I would of thought their inclusion was a bit better, however it came off like they were there just because they could be.

Now to take about Mon-El for a bit. I'll start by saying I though his final moments on Earth were fantastic. It was written wonderfully and performed even better by Chris Wood and Melissa Benoist. I also thought they did a really great job as painting him as a hero this episode, which is something we have been waiting for throughout his arc over this season. Mon-El is a character I thought, while he had the most character development out of all the character, he still felt a little wasted. In the end, his biggest impact was he was the reason for the big bad to be present and he taught Kara that there is no point in loving anyone. I really enjoyed Mon-El as a character but I felt he was very limited in what he could do, so I'm excited to know he isn't gone forever. When they first said he had to leave Earth, my logic brain said bring him to Earth 1, so I liked that they left that as a possibility for next season. My hope is he links up with the Legends some how and that way we get to still see him on a weekly basic while he can still has some crossover with Kara in the big crossovers.

Overall, with expectations set by the second half of this season, this finale was pretty strong. While I don't think it quite topped the mid-season finale, it still rounded out this entire season nicely while setting up some good hints for season 3.

8.5/10

Average Episode Rating: 7.6/10 - In the end, the first part of this season set a really high bench mark for this show, in which the second half failed to get close to. If we get more like the first half next season, we could be in for something special. Unfortunately though, this season scraps in lower than season 1 for me.

The people we love are another secret superpower
antonellarzp23 May 2017
Warning: Spoilers
This episode was the ending for a season stronger than the previous, but with a lot of filled.

The ending of the previous episode was quite shocking, so I didn't like much how things in this episode get well at the 5 minutes of the start.

However, I enjoyed the episode, but the think that it bothers me more of this series is the capability of solving problems on an easy way, like with Lex's box who appears from nowhere to save the day. And I was hurt about Mon-El's end, he was the best character of the season.

I also wished to see more of the "great fight" between Rhea and Supergirl, and the DOE vs. Aliens, although I liked Cat's parts and the end got me intrigued.

+ Cat knows about Supergirl.

+ Lena and Winn working together.

+ Fights.

+ The episode was well directed.

+ Karamel moments.

+ End.

  • Problems are fixed quite easily.

  • I wished a longer war.

  • Much abuse of the slow motion.

Cat is Darth Vader Warning: Spoilers
Consider the similarities; he was a bad guy turned good while she is a decent person though she is perceived as a bitch. Kara is the lightsaber since as usual she is the one that gives her the confidence boost she needs to win her battles. It's just one way of seeing it, as a lot of what she says can be seen as subtle sarcasm or taken literally. She was great as usual and finally admitted she knows who Supergirl is. Though I'm no longer certain Kara knows she knows.

Apparently the fight in the beginning has gotten mixed reviews; I hover feel that the route they took was the best one. Not only did it remove the problem of having to add Zod to the storyline, but it was a way for them to show that she is indeed more powerful than her cousin. Another noteworthy part in the beginning is that Rhea said Superman rushed in recklessly, just as Kara did at first and when she became over confident with her abilities. Alex being captured and nearly killed obviously taught her to look before she leaps; something he apparently didn't learn yet. I do hope that Superman being taken over by the enemy isn't going to be the running theme of every season. I hope mind control in the season finally has run it's course. Maggie and Alex just standing there irritated the hell out of me. Alex has a battle suit, she could have used it on the daxamites and to Intervene on Kara's behalf. Superman clearly was only interested in attacking Kara.

Lena and Lillian were actually quite awesome in this episode. I always thought both characters had so much more to give and they showed it here, excellent performances. I assume Lena's hostility towards Supergirl means she knows her secret, though I hope she sees as Cat sees, why she keeps it from some people.

Is Doomsday coming in season 3? Overall solid episode.

small note
onnaranmachan24 May 2017
from the beginning of the "knowledge" of the DEO, we have been shown its great chambers that house many known aliens, with the abilities to create or reduce certain atmospheric conditions as needed. however, they just send mon-el away. um.... would it have been too hard to put him in a chamber for a little while, and introduce him little by little over time, to a level of lead so he can get used to it? i mean unless they do have plans of his return somehow in future episodes or alternate series. it became one of those moments that make you wonder, "why did they let me be smarter than the show."

Overcompensating by defying logic does feminism no favors
tences-4933619 January 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Supergirl defeating Superman is the dumbest crap ever. Is she stronger than most men? Of course. How about other male superheroes like Aquaman or Cyborg? Maybe, why not. Than Superman? No bloody way. By defying logic to such a ridiculous extent, this show's feminist producer is only proving how some women can be so desperate to overcompensate that they become the irrational creatures they are known for, which also undermines all the good she was trying to do for lesbianism. And those two male producers might as well cut off their balls and serve them to her for allowing Superman to say that Supergirl "was stronger than he will ever be".

The entire episode is ruined by one thing
jbhjonah23 July 2019
Warning: Spoilers
So I got done with episode 21, and was excited to see the big fight between Superman and Supergirl. So it starts off pretty good, the fight is well paced. And then we get to the end it's just a big punchout between the Man and Girl of steel. WoW, wHaT a GReaT FiGht. Supergirl wins, that's it. One of the best things about her is that she can use her brain, and her words to solve problems. But no, they just fight and she wins no big deal. And that brings up another problem, they (the writers) lazily explain it away that she was "stronger than Superman". That doesn't work on so many different levels. First of all, Kara has 2 years of experience under her belt, Superman has at least 10-15 years. That doesn't make sense. And second of all, the only reason they did it is because the writers want themselves to feel empowered through Supergirl being better than Superman, not to make their target audience (girls) feel empowered. That is why I give this 1 star.

this feminisam agenda is so stupid.
shricool515 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This feminist agenda and trying to show females are better than men are so stupid.

Like always they did it again in this episode and showed superman like an idiot.

Not only that but also they showed that supergirl is stronger than superman.

Superman openly says it in this episode that he was in full strength but still she defeats him.

What a joke.
