Kim Coates plays some villains like this Ed Logan. I hope we don't have to wait too long to see him killed off. Coates is a pretty good actor, but his characters like this one and the gun hand in Open Range are kind of hard to take. He usually has a short part in films, but in this series he may be around for awhile.
So far, this story has some characters whose role makes sense and some who make no sense at all. Logan makes sense in a way, showing how the mining boss is greedy and arrogant, and likes to surround himself with arrogant toadies like the Colonel and Ed Logan.
It was obvious early on that Logan was going to get his ass shot off sooner or later. The writers just took a lazy route to setting him up for killing by having him whip his horse when Roy was watching from the jail.
