Different
yahiaaqil6 July 2020
The story is different. Maybe the plot is not that great but I give credit to the different details. Not great but nice. A lot of metaphors and references with an important message and suitable for kids and family so that's a bonus. More importantly for me, does Pixar have a competitor now? Look at the GIS work!

Finally a plot that is different
manganojames3 January 2024
How did this movie have better writers than disney ? Disney writers always have to add conflict between 2 friends , then they hate each other then they become friends again. The other one is when 2 opposites become friends for example old & new "cars 3" , predator & prey "zootopia" , fire & water , and a few other movies. Don't forget the annoying funny side kick too which thankfully this movie doesn't have any of these 2. I did realize some lip syncing issues throughout the movie but that isn't a big deal , the animation looks good. You can easily tell no AI worked on this movie unlike disney's WISH.

Simple and Magical
leonshikto20 March 2021
The idea and story of this movie is something simple and magical. It takes us in a magical journey with Mosley and his struggle is real. 2/2 for the story. 1/1 for plot setting. The dialogue, soundtrack, animation of this movie gets 2/4. Personally I found it very entertaining and I will give it 2/2.

slavery allusion
SnoopyStyle2 February 2022
Unlike other animals, thoriphants have the power of speech which make them especially useful for farm work. Their lives parallel those of the American slaves. Mosley was sold alone as a child. It's twenty five years later. He has his own family and works for a poor struggling farmer. His son Rue discovers paintings which show thoriphants walking upright. He escapes to search for the uprights in hopes of gaining freedom for his family.

I like some of the ideas like the fireflies and the fruits. The main allusion to slavery is a little awkward. I'm willing to go with it but the undeniable consequence of that allusion is that animal domestication is inherently cruel. This idea may work better with a bit more distance. It may need to be a sci-fi story especially with the super-quick evolution of the thoriphants. I also have a question about the uprights. There is a revelation which puts this world into some questioning. This is a functional kiddie movie and it's trying very hard for an adult discussion.

Very different to most animated films.
paulclaassen27 May 2021
'Mosley' is a delightful feel-good animated film. It is much darker and deeper themed than most animated films, and I loved it! There were no comic relief characters, no silly slapstick humor (only effective, funny humor).

'Mosley' is a fun-filled, action adventure movie, as Mosley goes in search for the Uprights. The film could very well have been about the Egyptians. It tells of a once incredible, thought to be lost, civilization - called the Uprights. Yup, think Egyptians then and now. They even have hieroglyphics depicting the superior civilization, with the current nothing more than 'slaves'. Sound familiar?

Don't get me wrong, the film is by no means propaganda. It is actually all too fabulous! I loved every minute, and thought this was just stunning. Although animated, it might appeal more to a mature audience due to its darker, more complex theme. A young audience might enjoy it for the dinosaur look-alike characters. Either way, this is a film young and old are sure to enjoy. Mosley is a likable hero, while Warfield, the Hunter, makes for a creepy antagonist.

Would I watch it again? Yes.

Weak Story and Script
imdbbonfiresky11 April 2020
The story kinda just rushes in and tries to fill in the blanks. This is drawing parallels on Slavery but at the same time relies on magic and power of belief. Oppressed intelligent animals must believe in a fairy tale that will give them back the power and set them free.

The characters, the way of life& their motivations are all a bit silly in this story of repression.

There are also what I would call many filler scenes to cutting back to Mosley annoying kid.

If you start asking "but why?" on many of the story progressions it falls apart so quickly.

It was silly and not well written. Animation was fairly decent though.

Outstanding! Except a small mistake.
ItsCN30 August 2020
Everything in this film was totally perfect, the music, the storyline, and the animation.. everything. Except that one mistake thing which was in the final, it was said that the six feet uprights would save everyone of their kind but Mosley only saved his own family, I mean there are still lots of others suffering in the village under men, who need to be saved. That was a major point that missed in the movie. But it was so beautiful, I mean it was worth watching, I'd recommend anybody to go ahead who's thinking of watching it. It's simply perfect.

Meh. Weak Story.
imdbbonfiresky9 April 2020
Meh. Maybe for kids, The story just kinda of rushes on with many loopholes and unanswered questions. Ties in humanity and slavery. I almost stopped watching a few times. But left it on in the background. In the end I suppose the moral is believe in magic to find strength out of of oppression. Which literally ends up being fairy tale magic. Forgettable waste of time.

Very worthwhile
xaocam-774809 April 2020
This was quite an engaging animation with the added benefit of no singing (so no annoying songs being played a million times afterwards by your kids). The animation was very well done and the plot well executed. Like all family movies, this too carried a moralistic message but this one avoided being political.

Warning: Spoilers
A political drama turned into a cartoon, where opressed animals fight for their rights....boring.

A Parable Wasted
wesleyvanauken5 June 2021
I was blown away by how they had created a parable for teaching about the horrors of slavery, and how it was so bad that they had to use cute talking animals instead of actual black people to do it. Surely a sign of how bad society treats black people.

Then it just... wasn't anymore. It didn't take long before it stopped being any kind of story about the horrors of slavery. It rapidly morphed into a cookie cutter feel good family adventure quest movie that hand waved away all the real lessons, then finished with a giant dose of deus ex machina.

What a wasted opportunity. I would give it one star but the animation and character design were cute.

Heartbreaking and beautiful story. Not like any animated film you've seen before.
DouglasAdams5112 April 2020
The film is thrilling largely in part to how unpredictable it is. Any kind of cliche that has given feature animation a bad name is cleverly avoided here. Whenever I was expecting this movie to tread predictable territory it always managed to subvert my expectations and deliver something much more invigorating and original.

Mosley is a lot darker and more dramatic a film than I expected and the villain is a bad ass you won't soon forget...

Beautiful and different
annieco2210 April 2020
This is a beautiful film, and a real gem! I'd even go so far as to say its one of the best animated films I've seen! It's rare that a film that's not produced by one of the major animation studios is so good, but this one is. The story is different, a lesson in life, imaginative, touching, comedic then tense at times, but all at a perfect rate. Animation is spot on, very well produced, and you easily relax into the characters. The only tiny thing I would say is that the music, tho perfect for each scene can be a little loud, so that the voices are hard to hear. Otherwise I would recommend this film, for adults and children alike!

The hole ecosystem is wrong
markthepig-9487430 May 2020
I liked this movie, good animation and voice acting.many year's ago i aked myself what gives us the right to posses other living beings and have "power" over their lives. This movie makes me think of that, i guess the movie its more about slavery (humans) but this should make us think also about farm animals and other animals that are mistreated and we should do something about if. Put yourself for example in a pig/ cow's place and see if you like the way you are treated and killed not living more than 1-3 years (out of 10-20). Let's learn something from this movie (even if you relate only to the humans)

The beginning is difficult to watch. The storyline isn't strong. But the film has heart, and has a worthwhile cause, and ending.

Freedom
westsideschl27 January 2022
Magic fireflies, "What do you want, Mosley?" "I want my family to be free." That statement is a bit ironic given China's censorship & ideological enslavement. Surprised it made it past their censors.

Absolutely beautiful movie
christinenewsom23 January 2024
The trailers did not do this one justice, I would have not watched based on those alone as it just seemed like a kids flick and nothing special, but wow, this is a simply a beautiful movie worth the watch. Just absolutely heart wrenching at many points and really a reflection of how humans treat animals in our society today. Humans are so cruel and awful it's unbelievable but this movie explores if what would happen if the tables were to turn. Really great voice acting and animations as well and great cuts that keep it interesting. If you watch this film and you're still exploiting animals after it, you truly have NO soul. Go vegan!
