A gripping conclusion
Sleepin_Dragon3 March 2018
After several blind alleys the team close in on the real killer of Lucy Chatham. Unearthing some recent and historical crimes.

Plenty of red herrings and twists coupled with a few shocking moments end this episode in real style. I was less then favourable about part one which was gruesome to say the least, but the concluding part more then makes up for it. It's not often writers seem to use the psychopath card, but here it works to advantage helping in a gripping, nail biting finale.

Saskia Reeves continues to impress, some spark with Thomas too, maybe they should write her back in one day.

A teacher goes missing and a body is thrown from a bridge
Tweekums11 January 2017
Warning: Spoilers
These comments cover the whole two part story not just the concluding episode.

This story opens with teacher Lucy Chatham going for a bike ride along a country lane; she doesn't get far as she is rammed from behind and crashes into a tree. The next thing we see is a woman's body being dropped over a bridge; this isn't Lucy through it is Tina Lunt, a former addict who has been stabbed with a screwdriver. Nikki and Jack are brought in to investigate Lucy's disappearance while Thomas works on the Tina Lunt case. Suspicion for the murder initially falls on Tina's boyfriend who strangely was also seen near Lucy's house on the morning of her disappearance. The behaviour of Lucy's neighbours is also suspicious; they are keen to hide the fact that the wife's brother was staying in their guest house at the time Lucy vanished… a man who had previously been charged with a woman's murder.

This was a gripping story with some good twists, plenty of suspects with a similar number of possible motives. Nobody will be surprised when the two cases prove to be linked but thankfully not in an obvious way. The identity of the killer isn't too obvious although I'm sure plenty of viewers will have guessed who did it simple by the fact that many of the other possibilities were just too suspicious to be guilty in a murder mystery! There are some genuinely tense moments; notably when we learn that Lucy has survived being knocked off her bike and is being held captive in remote farm buildings… although I was amazed that she survived the crash given that we were shown her head hitting a tree at speed! Some viewers will be disturbed by the fact that once again a murder mystery features brutal treatment of women prolonged views of their topless bodies in the morgue. Overall a solid episode that fans of the series are likely to enjoy.

The Writers Are So Good
Hitchcoc12 May 2019
This offering concludes with a whole series of question marks. The problem is too much trust and jumping to conclusions about a young man. The enjoyable part of this is that the pathologists do a really good job of sorting things out. The key is a screwdriver that had been modified by bending it slightly. What would one use such a thing for? The episode is gripping, but all the pieces fit together nicely at the end. Thomas is featured in this one and his relationship with the tired DI is quite entertaining.
