Back to gore, less focus on story.
Sleepin_Dragon3 March 2018
Lucy Chatham is a young teacher with her life ahead of her but her young life is cut short when she is run down, kidnapped and later killed and dumped. Jack and Nikki look into that case while Thomas and DS Steele investigate the discovery of another young woman's body. The discovery of corn flour seems to link the two cases.

For some strange reason I hadn't watched this during its original transmission, so I was very excited to watch it, being a big fan of the show. Overall I was quite disappointed, it's an ok story, but they've regressed and gone for shock factor, it is needlessly grim and overly gruesome, the post mortem was too graphic, and Lucy's corpse looked like a mannequin. It isn't bad, it just lacks any memorable moments. Saskia Reeves is the shining light, a great actress and strong character who dominates each scene. Clarissa gets a few great lines in, but Liz Carr lacks screen time.

Too much emphasis on gore and not enough on story, disappointing after an intriguing start. 6/10

Unexplained Murders of Womenis is
Hitchcoc12 May 2019
A woman is struck while riding her bike. She is kidnapped and kept hostage in a kind of shop with chains and other equipment. She is eventually thrown in a lake. This is a decent episode. There are two women dead but there are no visible motives. There is an excess of graphic body fluids and organs. We have a multitude of suspects but no one that stands out. Motive will come to the fore eventually.

Correction

Warning: Spoilers
Just wanted to correct the synopsis - Lucy & Jasper were NOT secret lovers. If anything she didn't like him due to his drug use. He was however trying - behind Lucy's sister's back to get her to free up some of the inheritance Lucy had (their parents had cut the sister out, again due to drug use) for him & the sister as they were expecting a child.

The only secret lovers in this episode are historical - the GP's wife had a one nighter with an old boyfriend while they were all still students. That was what led him to snap & kill a girl in Brighton.

Good story this one, and no personal involvement for any of the Lyall team.
