Waiting for Season 2... maybe
Grigsby38 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I enjoyed bingeing this series despite some of the cheesiness but full disclosure...I'm a septuagenarian and if, as rumor has it, season 2 would jettison the old folks and focus on the kids then count me out. There are already enough shows with super heroes under 30 streaming on all the providers.

Seniors still rule.

Have Some Patience, This Isn't TikTok

Mark Millar originally wanted this to be a movie, but was advised by James Gunn to turn it into a 40 hour series, because of the extensive backstory and set up that would need to go into it. If we were to get this as a movie we'd have a Watchmen situation on our hands where everything about the characters is set up in the three minutes we had before the opening credits. I would urge people to give it a chance and to wait and see what happens. Yes, this season is setting things up, but considering the alternative I'd rather get it this way. In a market that is completely saturated by superhero stories, it's refreshing to see something with a little more depth and world building than others we've seen. Give it a chance and disregard the 10 star and 1 star reviews. It's not that black and white folks.

Decent show, but it's no "the boys " or "invincible"
hecklndecalr7 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I liked the show. It has good actors, a good storyline and acceptable effects, but it feels less polished than other similar shows. There isn't a whole lot of super hero fighting or anything. The story is mostly based on morality and origin. 7 was a bit generous to be honest but it's worth a watch for sure.

Tempered expectations
FuneralWife998 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
A few points to begin - I'm a HUGE Marvel fan (both the comics and the movies) and I've read the graphic novels (but not the comics).

Ok - now the review. It wasn't bad! There had to be a set up (I mean, it says "legacy" in the title) and starting at the beginning wouldn't make sense or draw viewers, especially younger ones, in. The hate must come from viewers being so used to big budget superhero shows and movies from Marvel and DC.

This is not one of those. It's a different thing all together. There's a richness and depth to this story that hasn't existed in the other superhero worlds. I hope Netflix has a bigger budget for next season - show how good this story really is!

Why was it cancelled??
javier_88 July 2021
Yes, Jupiter's legacy is not perfect, it has a few flaws, but overall is a pretty decent series and really entertaining, the narrative with flashbacks was really well done, it keeps you interested in knowing "what happened?" between the past and the current time.

It has it flaws, of course, a little too much exposition sometimes, and of course as any superhero movie/series it makes no sense at times, but I really enjoyed it and I see crappy superhero projects getting a lot of seasons while this one didn't.

I don't know what happened, but I want my season 2.

So Disappointed This Got Cancelled
tbenson9724 August 2021
I like the whole idea behind this story and, although it wasn't perfect and needed some explanations, it was a pretty good show. It sucks that we get left with an ending like that because it felt like we were finally gonna get somewhere, almost all the cards were on the table. I hope it gets shopped to another network or something but I doubt it. This could've been such a great series had it not been cancelled.

bosleyjessie14 June 2021
I think this show is great and has a lot of potential. I'm so bummed to hear Netflix isn't bringing it back.

Hopefully it'll reboot in the future!

Chloe is REALLY annoying...
pngtouk11 May 2021
She's a waste of screen time. She's too self loathing. Don't see the point of her to be honest.

Again a bunch of fake or misleading reviews for at best an average show
sumtim3s00n7 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The show is barely average. I watched it cause i love shows like The Boys or the new Invincible animation. But this... The costumes look super cheap and like from Power Rangers, the story is nonexistant and revolves only around the origin and even that only the last episode. Everything else is completely inconsequetial and leads nowhere. The characters are boring, their actions clichee, predictable , they are uncharismatic and onedimensional. There is mostly just stereotypical drama with some average fighting and awkward wire propped stunts. The whole season could be shortened into 3 episodes easily because the tempo is snail like.

All in all, far from the level of season 1 of the Boys which is what people like to compare it to.

Average at best.

Too bad we only got one season!
Rob133129 September 2022
Jupiter's Legacy was a pretty good superhero show that's absolutely worth watching! It may start off a little slow for some but give it a few episodes because it gets better and better and is worth it. I've noticed that most of the negative comments are from people that read the comics and are disappointed that the show isn't exactly like the comics. I personally have never read the comics (or even heard of them) so I wasn't expecting anything therefore I wasn't disappointed about anything. The other people who were disappointed were the people who were expecting The Boys. It's not! It's still good in it's own right but The Boys is just on another level. The acting is the best part as Josh Duhamel leads a pretty good cast that are all at the top of their game here. It's too bad it was cancelled because it had a lot of potential to be a pretty good show.

Wanted to like it, but was sorely disappointed
jason-180410 May 2021
I understand if some of you enjoyed this, personally I did not though. Was excited for this one and wanted to like it but there were a number of things that were a big let down. Most of them have already been mentioned in other reviews, but to summarize: dialogue, action scenes, cgi, costume/makeup, some of the acting (you already know which character), and story are all trash IMO. If this was on CW it might pass.

Uneven but interesting when at its best
fraser-simons8 May 2021
The overall aesthetic is a bit baffling, both high budget but with Battelstar, it still looks low budget sometimes? It's very weird. And then the entire arc of the season is overwritten at parts.

What I found compelling was the contrast and disillusionment between modern day and market crash 20s of America. Paired with the generational gap between supers parents and children, it actually is pretty interesting when it focuses on that stuff.

The problem for me is that as soon as it sets the themes up, it then plateaus for a while, going into a backstory that again, feels overwritten. It begins as interesting and then after a while you want things to clip along and they really don't. Pacing annunciates plot beat problems.

Overall, I find it more interesting than The Boys, as far as alternate supers stories go. Not as good as Watchmen. But not bad either. 7 feels pretty right for it. Seems like they haven't got that good a grasp on it but it's compelling when things go right. Whether they stumbled on the 'right', I guess we'll see - if there's another season.

Script and exposition issues.
tomforsyth148 May 2021
This show has some of the worst exposition I've ever heard, which is really lazy and disappointing writing. And some of the acting and costumes aren't the best. The story, on the other hand, is really good. I'm a sucker for comic book adaptations anyway, so that might be my biased opinion.

Give it a chance. I did and I enjoyed it.

Underrated
Supermanfan-1321 January 2023
I actually enjoyed Jupiter's Legacy and was disappointed it was cancelled after only one season. I never read the comics so I can't compare the two but even if I did I wouldn't care the the two are different. I'll never understand why people don't like shows or movies because they are different from the source material, just enjoy them for what they. If it's entertaining enough then who cares if it's different? I binged the entire first season over the course of a weekend and think if more people would've gave this a chance they would've liked it. Josh Duhamel was the best part of the show and does a great job as the lead. If you're a fan of superhero movies/shows and haven't seen this yet then give it a chance. I think you'll enjoy it.

Yes It Had Issues But ....
postmeiska8 September 2021
The criticism of this series was mostly fair. Slow, disconnected, some underwhelming acting and terrible costuming. Not so unlike many series that take time to find their foothold. However the storyline was creative and interesting. There was promise lurking underneath it that was not brought out even by a $200 million investment. But dumping it seems premature especially with a cliff hanger ending. It leaves a bad taste in one's mouth for Netflix.

Especially when you consider Netflix picking up Manifest ... a cookie cutter soap opera, that threw in a bit of SYFY to sell itself. As flawed as Jupiter's Legacy was I would take that over Manifest any day of the week.

Loved it, disappointed it is not being renewed
royhectorkabanlit21 July 2021
I liked the Series, and frankly I can't understand how it got cancelled after just 1 Season when a crappy Series like "Titans" gets three and counting. There isn't a lot of action in the Series, it relied more on Plot Development and some Character Development.

But that doesn't explain why it didn't click, you can pretty much the same thing about "The Umbrella Academy" also and it is doing quite well.

What I did notice is that Jupiter's Legacy does have a lot of Horror and Psychological Thriller elements on it. For example, the Aliens were able to tap into Sheldon Sampson's (The Utopian) Psyche in a mostly negative way.

The Series also had a nice Twists to it that was hard to pin down for sure until the final Revelation, thanks to the smart use of Red Herrings throughout the Series.

Anyway, I am pretty disappointed we won't see any more Seasons of this, I was hoping to continue following the Storylines, but I guess that won't happen anymore.

Decent story. Liked it.
jonathancg-1288422 May 2021
I knew from the trailers that this wasn't going to be the typical superhero story so i didn't had my hopes too high. To my surprise, it was a really decent show.

It has an interesting plot, divided into two different eras: The 20's and the present. The first one is the origin storyline and the present is... I don't really care because i enjoyed the first one the most. At times it felt that it was kind of a Lovecraftian story with horror and mistery elements which made it intriguing and left me wanting to know more so i literally ate each episode one after the other until episode 8 which wasn't satisfying at all. Is by far the worst episode with bad cgi and an underwhelming closure.

I think 7 is the right rating for Jupiter's Legacy. It's not the best superhero show out there but it definitely worth a watch.

The hell with critics. Netflix should renew this series.
chrisbunchcb27 August 2021
This is not a boring super human freak show.

I think the writing was very good with twist and turns until the very end that kept me guessing wrongly.

I don't write very many reviews or try to save shows but this saga should continue.

Hope Netflix's comes to their senses, this is much better than "The Boyz", maybe Mr. Bezo's will take interest in this wonderful story telling.

Mixed review
gjw11 May 2021
Honestly, my initial problem with this series was the look of the main superhero, "Utopian", whose matted, long, white hair and scraggly beard makes him look like some hostile homeless person in bad pajamas. I have nothing against the idea of an aged superhero, in fact, it is rather novel. But it's possible to create a character with white hair who doesn't look like a Skid Row bum or a degenerate department store Santa Claus.

But I managed to look past that glaring misstep, and I actually enjoyed the series - at least the first half of it.

While it included more mature and violent situations than the usual superhero movie, it managed to avoid the gross excesses of recent super-anti-hero shows like "The Boys" or "Invincible", which often wallow in sickening gore simply because they can.

And it also managed to maintain a sense of ethics and a code of honor for Utopian, rather than simply promoting the idea that all superheroes are essentially just supervillains in disguise.

But about halfway through, the show took a turn for the worse. It became increasingly more surrealistic, seemingly obsessed with disturbing visions and hallucinations. Granted, those visions did eventually lead to a major development in the origin story, but the producers made the audience suffer through them for far too long before getting to the point. They also failed to explain exactly who gifted the heroes with their powers, or why they did it, something that is rather unpardonable for an origin story that is supposed to clear up mysteries, not create them.

Also, the show took a negative turn in the final episodes, and unfortunately, it appears to be heading in a very nihilistic direction that will undermine the essence of the show's original positive ethos.

A lackluster mediocre watchable show
mohadalmajid8 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
1. I just can't bear watching any scene with Chloe/Elena so I've skipped that (also doesn't really have anything to do with the main storyline).

2. Fight sequences are all made with 90s CGI technology.

3. Eight episodes to tell 2 meaningless stories:

3.1. Six people went into a cave & got superpowers.

3.2. The antagonist is the best friend, nope wait it's the brother. See you in a year or so for season 2!

It's Okay... But Canned After a month on netflix??? This is what is wrong with pop culture today...
MoistMovies7 May 2021
Not sure why there would be hype behind this series after airing.. In my opinion it was about what I expected. Good source material, but it looked like some poor writing might drag it down. Aaand thats exactly what happened.

The editing style between 30's and current day was poorly done.. One moment you're building a repor with a character through development and then bam thrown back into the 30's, then 1 min later bam back in current day... Some parts were very jarring and didnt feel like smooth story telling.

To me what elevates the series is the story. I love old Scifi so I can look past mediocre CGI.

Give the series a go but put your suspension of disbelief on 9000% for some of the poor writing mistakes and gaps in explaining the story, if you're not up for that. Maybe give this one a miss.

This series is nothing like the boys, forget any comparison to that series besides superpowered people.

This first season was basically just a origin story with a few side plots. The boys was nothing like that.
