Who killed an artist's model?
Tweekums21 November 2016
Warning: Spoilers
After the shocking conclusion to the previous episode Chief Supt Prosser is keen to distance himself from the death of Iwan Thomas and points the finger of suspicion at DCI Mathias. Meanwhile Mathias is busy with another case; a young woman has been murdered. She had told her husband that she was going to an art gallery but it quickly emerges that she hadn't gone there. She had been posing for a local artist and their relationship was more than just professional. The artist's wife claims be aware of his involvements with models but says it doesn't bother her.

This was another solid story which nicely combined the two plot threads… it is a good thing that there were two plot threads as the murder of the model didn't provide enough for the double episode. It was fascinating but not quite as interesting as the ongoing story regarding Iwan Thomas. Even though we know who was responsible the finger of doubt is being pointed at DCI Mathias and to make matters more complicated the officer who has been drafted in to lead the investigation was previously involved with DI Mared Rhys when she was still a constable. The cast, both regulars and guests continue to impress and the atmosphere is oppressive as ever.

These comments are based on watching the original two-part Welsh version with English subtitles.

It's another marvellous episode.

Mathias is investigating the death of an artist's model, but Prosser is piling on the pressure for investigators to look at him, following the death of Iwan.

I thoroughly enjoyed this, I loved how the two strands of the story wove neatly together, overlapping, Mathias pushed from pillar to post. The whole story surrounding Prosser is terrific.

It builds and builds, the ending is captivating.

it always surprisea me how good Rhodri Meilir is, as Ifan he's fantastic, am so used to seeing him play an idiot in My Family, he's so good.

Mared has really shone through this series, such a good actress, she's been central throughout this series, and fortunately she still finds time to wear her red coat.

I loved it. 9/10.

Death of an Artist's Model
Hitchcoc25 August 2017
This is a very good episode. The story starts out with the superintendent and another man trying to cover something up--possibly a murder. Mathias becomes the fall guy for them and is put under investigation for whatever they did. The police investigate one murder and Mathias is taken off the case. Soon his own people are investigating him at the direction of his bosses. The principle plot involves an artist's model who was taken advantage of by a well-known artist. In the mix is her former obsessive boyfriend who suspected she was having an affair with the artist. Mathias must risk his life and watch his back through this whole episode. I mistakenly watched this episode out of order so have some backtracking to do.

So sluggish that I felt like shooting the telly

Only reason I kept watching, was that i had spent two seasons and one episode following the painfully irritating, yet cleverly plotted background story ( the childrens home tragedy). Two almost unbearable flaws destroys this series. 1) THe pace. When some on is asked a question, they always wait 5 seconds to reply. Also, there ar hours and hours of stills of pensive actors thinking nothing. DCI Mathias nevere answers questions - seems to be there just to drag out a 20 minute episode into 90 minutes. 2) THe constant, loud and misplaced background "music" supposedly put there to match the dreariness of the Welch coastline. THIS IS REALLY, REALLY BAD! Stay clear or watch ypur blood pressure.
