Superb writing and a blended cast provide for a great pilot episode

Warning: Spoilers
I have seen far too many drama series where the main characters in the program are all very young and with super model appearances but are shallow actors. I have also seen my share of duds because the main characters are so far out there from reality that the series cannot sustain a devoted audience before we tire of the whacko characters. Such is not the case with this pilot episode for the new drama series Doubt.

Although the pilot episode just launched I immediately was impressed with Katherine Heigl's character as defense attorney at law Sadie Ellis. She kind of reminds me a little bit as if she were the dramatic equal to comedies answer to the "it girl" Mary Tyler Moore. Sadie Ellis is the whole package, she stays in shape physically by riding her bicycle to work each day, she is not afraid to spar with the prosecuting attorney's, her client, and even with her co- counsel. She loves her parents dearly even though her mother has been in prison for the past 32 years and her father is her mentor, and also the senior counsel of the law firm that Sadie is employed at.

Great series like the former 1986 multiple Emmy winning series L.A. Law thrived due to a strong supporting cast. From only watching the pilot episode I must say that this series Doubt, shows great potential. Characters like Sadie's co-counsel Albert (Dulé Hill), new just out of prison lawyer Nick Brady (kobi Libii), affluent surgeon Billy (Steven Pasquale) who is accused of murdering his girlfriend 22 years ago when they were both teenagers is Sadies case to win or lose, and transgender good looking lead defense counsel Cameron Wirth (Laverne Cox) add great bench strength to this new dramatic series. Money to produce this series does not seem to be in question either as Sadie's parents are senior counsel Isaiah Roth played by Elliott Gould and Sadie's imprisoned mother is played by Judith Light. Their interactions with their lawyer daughter are sincere and will most likely appeal to fans who possess sensitive hearts for families who have baggage in their lives.

In this pilot episode there are two separate trial cases before the courts. Sadie is representing the surgeon Billy who is accused of murdering his teenage girlfriend 22 years ago, and the second case is about a paranoid schizophrenic who threw a women in front of a train and he is superbly represented by transgender defense counsel lead Cameron Wirth (Laverne Cox). I enjoyed this pilot episode and it hit me right away that this series Doubt has great potential. Kudos also to the creators and story writers Joan Rater and Tony Phelan for some great stories. It is about time a good drama series was on television. I cannot wait for next years Emmy's to see how this new series fares against its competition. No 'Doubt' it should win its share of awards.

I give the series a very impressive 9 out of 10 rating.
