Ross Butler Is Everything

I would have to argue that the level of depth and quality that Ross Butler brings into this episode through is character is uncanny even when put up against the lead actors/actresses.

Disappointing.

This show so far have been more of a teen drama than a crime/mystery show, I was expecting the latter.

I only give this a six because of the revenge scene, yeah it might not give a "deep message" but it was nice to see that guy get what he deserves.

Also I hope they stop doing the "hashtag" thing, it's hella cringy (and I really dislike using that word).

Then get this: He doesn't thing it is at ALL SUSPICIOUS WHEN THEY BOTH WANT TO SLEEP WITH HIM IN AN ISOLATED LOCATION.....? Who is writing this? If someone says I hate you and I'm going to make you suffer.....would you believe them when a couple hours later they both want to sleep with you? Man oh man who approved this?

How is this a show that exists in real life?

Warning: Spoilers
Who saw this script and said "Oh this is good, let's put this on TV"? It's come to the point where I'd rather watch Rory Gilmore being a piece of s**t than this.

First of all, the plot's progress is either way too fast or side tracked by fuc**ng boy troubles. Like I give a flipping sh*t if Weasley over here will fu*k the blonde or the brunette. Literally, who gives a fu*k about this? Second of all, I've never seen something fail so bad at social commentary in my life... And I used to watch MTV's Decoded.

HEY FISH LIPS, SLUT SHAME THEM ONE MORE TIME ULL GET NAZI PUNCHED. what the fu*k??? was that???? what was the point of that scene? it didn't add ANYTHING to any of the characters or the plot, it was there just for cookie points from the demographic it's trying to reach (teen girls, and before you ask yes i am part of the demo, as a 16 yo girl)

And seeing Lavender Brown & Co. explain racism to 6-Pack Weasley was akin to a fork scratching a rock wall. Cringy, poorly executed, came out of nowhere, and most likely wasn't in the source material. 'gurl stop spewing politics' 'nah dear women... i can handle discussion over systematic oppression...full McIntosh'

The only things this show has it's mediocre-gets-the-job-done aesthetics and Cole Sprouse. Literally it.

oh, the sacrilege

Yeah, it's me, that guy who was an enemy of this show from the moment I first heard of it (elated) but found out re the casting choices (bummed beyond belief). I will repeat ad nauseum that CamIla Mendes cannot work as Veronica. This is further underlined in this episode by what in effect amounts to Lili Reinhart being a better Veronica (wig was just too much of only a bob). Yes, Veronica at the very least needs to be a fine-featured delicate girl... princess like in looks, a tigress underneath. Before you judge me for being a South African and saying very obvious things, I think Hermione (in the show) is absolutely great, she is cute and fine-featured in that needed-for-Veronica way. Mendes is good, she has a place in the show, just not as Veronica. Look, hate me, feel free, I'm telling it like it is. I was around back then, well, mid-Seventies. Betty and Veronica are goddesses to me. I am not taking this without arguing. I think the show takes terrible liberties with iconic figures.

But it is good. NO, IT IS MORE THAN GOOD. But it ploughs using other people's horses. And that bugs me.

I am a positive fan. I am also a negative fan. I'm an old has-been dude. Super uncool. Hate me all you like.

I've wanted a live-action ARCHIE for years and years. The casting of Betty and Veronica is crucial crucial crucial. Lili Reinhart, I approve. The ponytail is wrong, but the eyes, the face, the sweetness, I adore. Camila is wrong. Yeah, that's the sour note here, I know what everybody thinks of me.

Many of you readers are American and you don't know what's sliding past you. The Red White and Blue means NOTHING to you. That's the problem with new-days-equality casting. Throw out the good with the bad.

Very early to fumble but plenty of time left to recover.

Just when I was getting intrigued over the mystery they were spinning (and the whole Archie comics gimmick was a mere incidental) they dampen their growing power with what is mostly a filler episode.

Yes, there is lots going on throughout this that is relevant to the over-arching story but that sort of makes it annoyingly difficult to skip.

This self contained narrative of evil jocks sort of comes from nowhere and doesn't seem to have any real baring on anything we've seen so far.

To be perfectly honest, I'm not sure why it's that big of a deal. They don't give the impression that anything happens that's worse than getting your likeness desecrated and some kiss-and-telling. That's pretty annoying I guess and it's not like I was rooting for the jocks at all but still, I feel insulted that they padded the seasons total runtime so early in the show.

I suppose it was supposed to be a mile stone in Betty and Veronica's relationship. A bonding experience as well as examining how they are merging together which would be a fascinating idea but like so much of this show, feels all wrong against its gimmick of pretending that it's using the Archie Comics characters instead of crude doppelgangers.

That is SO not Jughead.

I suppose they're the characters AFTER they have developed a little beyond their classic form but surely the development FROM that INTO this is the story we should be being told?

Also: why were at least two members of the Josie and the Pussycats replaced? I feel annoyed at this informed attribute that they're supposed to be so brilliant when their music is pretty generic ("Sugar" was a hit from the Archies, not J&Ps) and I don't care for them telling me they had to "claw their way up" and expecting me to just believe them without further evidence.

No way is that why they are named that, don't be insulting.
