Oh good grief
pault-webster8 June 2016
I really am struggling to find the words to describe JUST how bad this movie is. Poor CGI. TERRIBLE acting. Obviously a rip off story... Poor narrative that doesn't come close to the original movie which wasn't exactly poetry in motion itself.

It's just impossible to understand why they can get away with pumping out this nonsense. Or how even struggling actors get involved in such nonsense.. although I guess sometimes you have to do what you have to do.... but oh dear god... the humiliation.... !!

Truly awful... avoid at all costs.

I didn't and now I have the scars to show for it.

We know how this one will go without even watching it...
joshhanke7 June 2016
Asylum production had their ridiculously untalented hands in this one, so there's really no need to review it at all, am I right? They should never be allowed to make films, and the whole world knows it. How they get any funding is beyond me. Everything they have ever touched has turned to junk. Just a travesty of a movie making entity, they are. Sadly, this movie didn't have a chance. It was a piece of crap the very second it was in the hands of Asylum. They routinely cast people right off the street, wardrobe is always just plain tragic, special effects....I can't even call them special effects....just no. Someone needs to put an end to Asylum....soon.

This is awful was on for a full 15 minutes and about 10 of them was spent with me looking for my laptop to rates this 1 though it does not deserve one.

The Asylum keep making these awful movies. If this was a spoof version of Independence Day it would probably be worth a watch.

However its just a cheap imitation with basic CGI that looks as bad as the acting.

Even SyFy Channel don't do things this bad.

I should know by now anything attached to the Asylum needs to be binned without viewing.

Inane Bread Loaf for Few?

Not since the accidental filming of my great grandmother's vaginal cyst explosion has anything SO exciting hit the big screen! I was riveted to my seat. (No, I really was; my wife has a new rivet gun and she was experimenting). The special effects are better than anything ever to come out of Ms. Cosgrove's 2nd grade film-making class at Goobersville Elementary! And the acting! Where shall I begin? Imagine Gomer Pyle playing the lead in, "My Life as a Woe-man; the Story of Bruce Genderless." I see Academy Awards all over the place!! (NOT for this movie, but...nonetheless...) Download this movie...seriously...what have you got to lose? (Think about that...very carefully)

I enjoyed this, but I suggest waiting until it's in the $1 bin.
widsith-5860214 June 2016
First, do not mistake this for the 2016 sequel to the original Independence Day. "Independents' Day" (the cheeky title alone deserves an extra point) is made by The Asylum, a company which specializes in grabbing as many sales as it can from people mistaking their productions for upcoming blockbusters, or from people such as myself who don't mind watching these things occasionally as a change from all the over-hyped, big-budget productions about. Production values are very much in dollars rather than billions of dollars. However, that doesn't mean the result is necessarily bad.

The actors take their roles seriously, albeit they're not exactly A-list, being either complete unknowns or daytime soap extras. Occasionally The Asylum do pull in a recognizable face, but there's none in this film.

The special effects are actually not bad - better than many TV productions I've seen, and the story-line is quite imaginative, although the screenplay lets things down a bit. That's a shame, as with a bit more attention to the latter the whole production could be raised a notch or two.

In this film, some large(ish) spaceships arrive on earth and instead of immediately destroying everything offer to relocate earth's population to avoid a costly battle, even offering rewards in the form of cures for various diseases if humankind cooperates. The female vice-president of America finds it's up to her to work out what's really going on and find a way to prevent the aliens' from taking possession the planet.

I definitely wouldn't recommend wasting $10 on this - wait a couple of months until it appears in the $1 bin. It's good to pass a bored 1½ hours when there's nothing else to do, or save it for a day when your in bed with chickenpox. Also, as another reviewer has pointed out, The Asylum productions are blissfully free from the expletives and sexism that appear in almost everything these days, for which I'm truly grateful.

Do Not Bother!
phillewis-4267916 June 2016
I shall be brief! This has to be one of the worst, if not the worst, film I have seen! The acting is........well I am giving it a complement by crediting it as acting.....terrible! Where do these 'actors' come from? The script is pretty dire which doesn't help the actor's cause, but even so the finished product must have had the "ok we've got a shot there" by someone! I just wonder how many 'takes' it took to get something so bad! It might be quite amusing actually to see a DVD of the 'out-takes'. A complete waste of time! Do not even think that it is the sequel to Independence Day, it is nowhere near the quality of that movie. Awful! Awful! Awful!

c'mon people lighten up and lower your expectations a bit (mild spoiler)
jamesfortankiy25 June 2016
Warning: Spoilers
this film (albeit a knock off of ID4) isn't as bad as some sci fi flicks I've seen costing quadruple the amount this was made on. Speaking of which I'd say the special effects are relatively great and on par on it's $1/2 million budget. Is it a bit campy at times? sure but it's not such a bad flick to watch if you want to kill a lazy afternoon. Sure there are military errors (99% generally are by design) and the spaceships aren't state of the art (nice to know we art the only ones in the universe using plastic hoses) but it is what it is. It's refreshing to see new faces and decent script writing. All in all I'd say rent this one but again throw "Independence day II" expectations out the window; there's no match of course but at least they gave it a great try IMO!

Independents Day Perfect B Movie ScFi Action
creedfanjeremy11 July 2016
All the poor reviews for this film surprised me when I first read them. I seen this movie at my local Walmart for 10 bucks.Being a huge Independence Day fan and B movie fan I grabbed it. I had 0 hopes of it being any good due to it being produced by The Asylum but it IS a great B movie. The special effects are really good and the story is quite engaging. The acting is as good as you can expect for this kind of film buy better than most I have seen. If you dig B movie ScFi flicks and love the alien invasion idea you will enjoy this movie. I gave it 5 out of ten and for a B flick that's pretty good. You won't be disappointed. I felt like the story could have been an interesting idea if the right studio had gotten it besides the Asylum but still it's probably their best produced film that I have seen. The ships and the aliens look great and the space battles are cool as heck. Very good alien B movie. Check it out.

Sh*t sandwich
leegraham8217 June 2016
Potentially the worst movie since fatal deviation. Not connected in any way to the original. I watched this on a plane while killing time and twice thought of parachuting to safety. Showing this movie to ISIS would end the war in the middle east immediately. Acting and plot are amongst the worst you will see with by far the best performance being put in by the extras who can be seen laughing to themselves in many scenes, which almost had the effect of convincing me that this might be some kind of spoof but alas that was not to be. This one is strictly for BitTorrent as to reward this type of effort would make us as bad as the North Koreans.

Please, Please, Stay away from this movie
cofad11 June 2016
This movie is just too awful (even for a B-rated or spoof movie) - and trust me I have watched a few), whoever wrote and directed this movie should be banded from ever producing movies. What the other reviewer have stated about the movie is "Spot on" - (stay away for this one), I wished I had seen the reviews before I watched it (what a completed wasted 1.5hrs).

Note - there is now way this even be classed as a mock film about the "Independence Day" film (Yikes).

Story line = 0 Acting = -1 Overall rating for this move = 0 or -1

This is easily the worst movie I have every watched (and that is even putting it lightly).

Not the sequel to "Independence Day" (1996)
Marc-1088 June 2016
Warning: Spoilers
This film is generally a low-budget re-rendering of the 1996 blockbuster hit, "Independence Day". If it were a spoof, it would have been more entertaining. As it stands, I suspect it's an attempt to capitalize on the actual sequel to "Independence Day", which will be in theaters on June 24th.

The rather limp response of the American Military establishment to the destruction of the White House, the President, and 2,000 White House staffers might be funny it weren't so sad. The new President's husband, a senator, issues commands to the National Guard and they follow them, as if a Member of Congress was actually in the Chain of Command.

The interiors of the alien spacecraft are decorated in Early Industrial Basement, with the most prevalent design element being deconstructed plastic milk crates. The militia members seem happy to accept direction from military brass or civilian authority. It's as if the writers have no idea what militias are all about: anti-government and obsessed with "personal freedom".

I'll be glad to see the real sequel when it come out.

Another masterpiece from Asylum
krakkai-tibor31 August 2016
I am still thrilled to see people *** their pants to scream out loud, how bad a movie this and that was. Guys, wake up. Its Asylum time. $500k spent and such a movie created. The moment the first alien ships appeared, I yelled, hey, Michael Bay should beg for the receipts! One of the best CGI I have seen in an Asylum production. The story-line is quite easy to guess -all have seen the zillion dollar counterpart- the acting is OK, the VP turned POTUS was a surprise for me, she was a decent representative of a politician in hard times. So if you can forget its a mock-buster, maybe you will even enjoy it. If you are a fan for trash movies, just like me, you will definitely enjoy it.

Decent and fun mock buster
therealadrian17 September 2016
I watched this for free on TV thinking it was a comedy parody, but it turns out that it is merely a mock buster, meaning that it has a similar name and a similar plot to Independence Day. Comparing the two movies, I found that this movie had a more realistic plot, with things simply making sense. The ending wasn't quite as exciting as in Independence Day, but it was still decent, combining politics with military in the face of an alien invasion in a beautiful way. Criticising the special effects is a bit cruel, as it only had a $500,000 budget and I think it did pretty well in the circumstances. Not too bad for a movie I watched for free on TV. Definitely a B movie though but not the worst one out there.

Don't spend a dime on this one.
imdb-2093826 June 2016
This movie is a total ripoff. Someone should sue them and all monies should be refunded. The dialog is the worst I have ever seen. The cinematography is terrible - I think a home movie camera would have done a better job, the story line is beyond bad - it reminds me of a 1960's era scifi movie - not much beyond Godzilla. I really hope that the producer, director, production company and even the actors have NO career going forward, as this movie is just a scam playing a an earlier movie with a similar title. It would be hard to "spoil" this one, as there really is no viable plot and the entire movie is pretty much predicable. You've been warned!

This movie is remarkable
whiteandblackdesigns16 July 2016
Warning: Spoilers
I am a sucker for these silly scyfy channel films, finding most of them entertaining (in fact there is another independence day rip off called independence daysaster which is pretty good fun) but this is totally toilet. No character, no suspense, no laughs, no thrills.

It really is amazing to think that somebody can make a film about an alien invasion with no fun of any kind in it whatsoever. If this was an experiment in seeing if this was possible then congratulations. If not, can I have 90 minutes of my life back please?

Oh, spoilers. This is a crap version of Independence day with a similar plot but none of the charm.

I've seen it once, will not see it again. That being said. I've seen worse. Plausible history. Lots of good FX on some of the scenes. Give it a try, I did.

At least the CGI's a bit better than normal...
Leofwine_draca26 August 2018
Warning: Spoilers
As the title would suggest, INDEPENDENTS' DAY is an open rip-off of the recent INDEPENDENCE DAY follow-up, made of course by The Asylum. It's a typically mindless outing in which the writing and characterisation are worse than ever, although at least this one takes itself seriously rather than venturing into SHARKNADO-style open stupidity. The single thing going for this is the calibre of the CGI effects, which is slightly higher than usual for an Asylum movie, but that's not recommendation for tuning in.

I liked it ...
jwinps-561-92420614 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
... better than most low budget sci-fy films. Weak point: Why any on Earth would believe in the aliens having no harmful intent - despite them blowing up The White House. But, if you can get past this, the tenacity of the US in getting to the aliens' real goal is good. Not too original for their demise, however. Just a redo of War of the World. Special effects OK, but not stellar. The head alien is not too believable. It could have been truly terrifying, but is obviously just a mediocre CGI. Acting generally good. Overall, I liked it. Some similar attempts by other movies either have left me howling in laughter or forced me to turn them off before the end.

Sarah Pallin
kristijan-0701313 June 2016
Warning: Spoilers
I think that this movie was financially supported by Sarah Palin. Look at the USA president; they have almost same face and the attitude is there. :) In any case, I usually do not comment movies and it is my first time here. This is one of the most awful movies I have ever seen. Naive, stupid, ambivalent with zero action, adrenalin and all other hormones shut down immediately. Seems like a very bad American propaganda movies. And now the IMDb says I should write at least 10 lines of review?! What the hack! It is not possible to say anything else that this is a complete crap of the movie. It shouldn't be watched even under the threat of torture.

Wow. That bad, huh.
adriaanfbakker23 June 2016
Try to imagine the worst remake ever of Independence Day. Independence Day without the humour, without Will Smith and without Jeff Goldblum. The story is so thin that perhaps even adding some incredibly silly bends, for example a tornado or a shark, or a towering inferno would make this film a bit watchable. Anything but watching the boring cgi that is a poor ripoff of the original. I'll give it one point above awful for the fact that I watched it until the end. Is it really that hard to make some decent science fiction with a budget like this? Please start with a good story. Perhaps ask one of the critics on this film to write the next story, I'm sure any of you can do this better. Let them bin this, and try again.

Not exactly good but enjoyable, I've seen far worse efforts churned out by The Asylum.
Foreverisacastironmess12315 October 2016
Warning: Spoilers
I didn't find this as terrible as described in most of the reviews, yeah I see where they're coming from, but I liked some of this movie, the tone and acting was typically mainly flat and the pacing was horrible but I found the buildup kind of intriguing with the aliens being forceful yet claiming to be benevolent until it's eventually revealed that they are basically stealing people's blood as energy or something and jettisoning the remains into space like yesterday's trash! I found it all a little reminiscent of the classic TV sci-fi series V. I thought the alien leader was pretty cool, I found the design of the faceless thing impressive, although all of the interior scenes of the alien ships looked really s****ty and cheap. The president mum lady made me laugh because she was so bad and taking it all so seriously, although she still kept looking like she was dying to smile or laugh, and she was no president, at best she had the gravitas of a school principal! And her son I found pretty funny too, he kept tearlessly crying, badly, at every little thing! So yeah what can you really say about a thin silly movie like this that overstays it's welcome long before it finishes? Not exactly a worthwhile flick that I recommend to anyone in particular...but I don't know, kind of mildly enjoyable and fun at points to me, and I can honestly say that I enjoyed it that tiny bit more than I did Independence Day Resurgence, that much I can say..c'est la vie!

OK movie for a low budget film but not good enough to be a must see film.
zhaansfan8 June 2016
Warning: Spoilers
this is a low budget movie but the military adviser Don're Walker must have never served in any of the U.S. military branches. I expect a few mistakes in a low budget film but failed to see a single correct uniform in any military personal. however beyond that and the unbelievable story plot this was about as well done as a low budget film could be. graphics and sound techs did a good job but story line and military adviser really let this film down. worth watching as long as you are willing to overlook the plot and wardrobe mistakes. Mike Verta did a good job of directing this film but allowed to many wardrobe mistakes to slip through, just a couple of them were a army "major" wearing a marine BDU cap as well as a "general" wearing a first lieutenants stripe, or the female pilot with her hair down.

Pathetic Movie i have ever seen
pradippg-741-99137018 June 2016
With the legacy of Independence day, i thought it is a sequel of an famous independence series without thinking too much i started watching this movie and pretty soon come to the understanding that its not that what i have assumed. OMG such a pathetic it was, what a pathetic cast, direction, animation, special effects everything. if i had the option to give a negative review i would have done that. Whoever the director i have one sentence to say. DO whatever but don't you ever try to make a movie or just forget about the direction, drama, acting everything connected to the film industry. I have to say you are pathetic.
