We're getting there

Warning: Spoilers
First of all, I would like to remind everyone that the first 2 seasons of Breaking Bad were also slow, and only by 3rd season the series skyrocketed. The same is happening with Better Call Saul. This season the improvement has been tremendous, but, same as Breaking Bad, the first two seasons were necessary to establish the grounds, to layout the story, so all would combine at the end. The details are very important, and both series payed much attention to that, and that is why both shows are A+. I'm betting that by the end of this season, everybody will be amazed on the galloping plot.

Engrossing character work
Leofwine_draca24 September 2021
A slower episode but quite engrossing with lots of decent character building, particularly on the part of Jimmy. Nothing more soul-destroying than the lack of money and that's put across well here.

Great episode

Time really went fast because of an eventful and enjoyable episode. We see Jimmy juggling many things from his advertising endeavors to his daily community service. His haste sets the tone for most of his scenes where he is eagerly moving trying to make ends meet. What was great about this episode was the decency and humanity we saw in Jimmy and Mike. Jimmy refused to take back money from one of his filming crew believing she earned and deserved it. While Mike devotes his time to his granddaughter's school yard and possibly helping another person connected to his daughter-in-law. Hence he let himself be dragged into the deal with Nacho after initially saying no. I got the impression that the main characters are pushed into certain activities or bad behavior due to circumstances. While they are not perfect the frustrations with people and situations make them cross that extra mile. We see Jimmy being pushed to go after Chuck in the end after Chuck tried to take everything from his brother who always cared for him.

Particular praise should go to the directing of the episode. It was so well made and executed to convey all it did. Even small details like Kim's 5 minute nap to show her exhaustion as well as later internal conflicts. We have few episodes to go so I'm hoping for some build up and bigger events.

Getting better with each show
uwantsun23 May 2017
Great cast, tight direction, superb writing...

This isn't an action type tense film making. Like Hitch's work, the tension is in the intensity of the characters and writing, which means that it's very, very good.

Jimmy - a nice guy with a morals code - continues to get burned by the very system he has spent years trying to fit into. The more he cooperates, the more it burns him. So slick Jimmy, I would think, must be wondering WHAT THE HELL he saw so much in this corrupt system that Fs you if you play by THEIR rules. Proof to us and Jimmy, the system sucks.

I can now see how in the future, he can and will, become Saul. The system will make him into a more intelligent Chicago slick Jimmy.

Mike the Fixer gets deeper into the mess, with each and every show, while showing that in his core, like Jimmy, he's a good guy with a moral code.

Best television going. Given the outright usual and predictable crap out there. Bring your mind and soul to BETTER CALL SAUL, because it takes both to really appreciate what this show has to offer. Anything less is like all that junk you see on the networks.

Get me? DB

On the Skids
Hitchcoc24 May 2018
Jimmy is doing everything he can to keep up his end of the bargain. He continues to try to float that stupid commercial enterprise. But the whole world has been turned upside down. Chuck is still winning, even though he is nowhere nearby. Mike is getting back in with the big boys and Salamanca is still in his sights. Back to Jimmy. He goes to the company that has his malpractice insurance and tries to get a refund, since he can't practice law. But he is up to something.

Everyone is Amazing!
eldreddsouza12 July 2020
Warning: Spoilers
There's not much happening in this episode, no action scenes. In fact it's much of a build up episode, with subtle instances leading to something big. Typically such episode wouldn't get a 10/10 because there's not much that progresses the storyline. But this was an extremely good hour of TV. The performances deserve a 10/10. Every person who has worked on this show has given tehrir best. Every actor in this show has given their all. The writing, direction is incredible, the way they manage to keep us highly entertained with each episode, even if it doesn't have much to add to the storyline. This show definitely is quality at it's peak.

Pathetic
darbski22 May 2017
Warning: Spoilers
**SPOILERS** I don't think I'll give much away, but if you haven't seen this episode; GO NO FURTHER !! This is hard to write because, like a lot of viewers, I've invested myself in these episodes. The thing is, tonight, I really wanted Jimmy to clip a couple marks to get some working capital back; he's getting creamed, financially. Kim would help, he knows it, he doesn't want to give up, he's running out of money, and now, he's figured out that he can't get a refund on malpractice insurance; as a little icing, when he is reinstated, his rates go up astronomically. You've gotta see what he does when he see how bad he's screwed.

The problem I have is one of action. We're running out of time for at least some movement. So far, it's been a real good set up, but it bogs down due to the minute details that make a good book, but slow t.v.

I'll re-state my earlier hope that Kim doesn't get hurt on this whole thing, and Mike turns the screws a little deeper on Hector. Thank god we didn't have to put up with listening to Chuck complain while he pulls more crap on Jimmy.

Blah episode
mm-3924 May 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Blah episode. If you going miss one episode for this season Expenses is the episode. Expenses goes through the motions. Jimmy does community service. Jimmy's struggles with filming and selling commercials. Jimmy character is story development filler which I really do not want to see. There is a wall shot with Jimmy which I believe was either a famous painting or rock video? Kim is starting to wonder about Jimmy with his comments at a bar, and Kim's latter comments about hurting Jimmy's brother. Wonder if there is a relationship split among the Jimmy and Kim characters? Jimmy's interjection to the insurance company about Chuck? Mike's new job plus the other new plots developments foretell new plot twists for upcoming story line. The plot twist components in Expenses save the episode from being awful too just Blah. Six out of 10 stars.

Improving even in the slow parts, but not sure if it can live down horrendous seasons 1-2
heisenberg1223 May 2017
Warning: Spoilers
This episode exemplified just how much finer the attention to detail has gotten in the show, at times very similar to Breaking Bad. Even when hardly anything major happens, there is still attention to detail and dialogue that makes the slow scenes better than they would be.

However, that said, this wasn't a great episode, and the fact that they called back so much to seasons 1-2 again for the second consecutive week, with this week being the dorky annoying drug dealer guy from season 1 and Jim my and Kim's boring and stupid scamming plans at the restaurant, was unnecessary. We're going BACK to S1-2?

I'm sorry but S1-2 were a total fumble, drop the ball, mess up. They were horrendous. Let's keep moving along. The farther they get from anything that happened in S1-2 the better the show will be.

It was a decent episode reminiscent of some of the weaker episodes of Breaking Bad, which were still good.

boring
iamrioto12 June 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I find it very intriguing how a TV show can be so good and so boring at the same time. The fact is, Saul is an awesome character but his story is just not interesting. I get it, we need to know he's gone through some hard sh*t to get where he is post BCS but come on Vince this is getting crazy. Mesa Verde boring... chuck boring... 90% of this show is a snore fest.

The mike/Gus/hector/nacho arch is very good and because of this I'm still on board. My prediction, BCS will not be renewed.
