Get your first look at Jeremy Irons as Adrian Veidt, Ozymandias, in these few seconds of footage from HBO's Watchmen TV series.
HBO has kept any and all story details about their upcoming Watchmen TV series under wraps. And with good reason. No comic book adaptation comes with quite the weight of expectations that anything with the Watchmen name on it does, and showrunner Damon Lindelof has gone out of his way to make it clear that he isn't looking to desecrate the work of Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons, but rather to build on it.
HBO has revealed a whopping five seconds of footage from the Watchmen TV series and while it's not a lot to go on, believe it or not it's still pretty exciting.
In case you haven't seen it yet, it's part of HBO's 2019 preview video, and the Watchmen stuff starts at about thirteen seconds in.

HBO celebrated the Golden Globe Awards by premiering a brand new trailer touting their 2019 slate. The clip, embedded below, includes new footage from returning series “Veep,” “Big Little Lies,” and “Game of Thrones,” plus exciting new looks at debut dramas “Euphoria” and “Watchmen.”
The brief “Game of Thrones” footage is hugely significant as it features the first meeting between Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner) and Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke). As previously reported, “Thrones” Season 8 begins with Daenerys and Jon Snow (Kit Harington) arriving at Winterfell, so this long-in-the-works meeting between Daenerys and Sansa could be one of the first moments we get in the final season.
In the “Thrones” footage, Sansa tells Daenerys, “Winterfell is yours, your Grace.” The line is crucial and suggests Sansa won’t put up a fight when her brother, Jon, returns to their family home with a new queen by his side. Jon is clearly allying...

The Cairo Film Festival, for its 40th edition, is reinventing itself.
With Egyptian producer Mohamed Hefzy at the helm who, at 43, is its youngest president, the oldest fest in the Arab and African worlds is undergoing a radical revamp in a major effort to get its mojo back after a decade of decline due to the country’s post-revolution turbulence.
Hefzy, who is known internationally for the steady stream of edgy top notch titles birthed by his Film Clinic shingle — most recently Cannes standout “Yomeddine,” which is Egypt’s current candidate for the foreign-language Oscar — is the first Cairo fest chief chosen from within the country’s film industry ranks. Since being appointed in March he has been working incessantly in tandem with respected critic and academic Youssef Sherif Rizkalla, who remains the fest’s artistic director.

They’re built into the framework of “The Deuce,” but HBO is making sure that all their series going forward have someone on hand to ensure safe conditions for the shows’ sex scenes.

Beta Film, Italy’s Wildside, German production outlet Zeitsprung and Isreali writer/creator trio Nadav Schirman, Ron Leshem and Amit Cohen are joining forces on Nasa space mission drama German Moon.

Twentieth Century Fox has set up the comedy project “Stoned Alone” with “Deadpool” star Ryan Reynolds producing and potentially starring in the movie.
Augustine Frizzell, who directed the comedy “Never Goin’ Back,” has been signed to direct. Kevin Burrows and Matt Mider wrote the script from an idea by Fox executive Matt Reilly with the project centering on a 20-something loser who misses the plane for his holiday ski trip and gets high at home — only to then discover that thieves have broken into his house.
The project, which is in early development, is reminiscent of Fox’s 1990 comedy “Home Alone,” which starred Macaulay Culkin as an 8-year-old boy mistakenly left behind at his Chicago home when his family goes to Paris for Christmas vacation. “Home Alone” was a massive box office success with $476 million in worldwide grosses.

As production is wrapping on the final installment of mega hit Game Of Thrones, HBO has given a pilot green light to a Got prequel series project from hot feature writer Jane Goldman and author/Got co-executive producer George R.R. Martin.
Created by Goldman & Martin and written by Goldman based on a story by her and Martin, the untitled project takes the prequel concept to a new level as it is set thousands of years before the events of Game Of Thrones. The series is described as chronicling “the world’s descent from the golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour. HBO is moving forward with a pilot for a new series called Euphoria and they've cast Zendaya (Spider-Man: Homecoming, The Greatest Showman) in the lead role. This will be the actresses darkest role yet. As you know, she got her start making Disney channel shows.
The project is an adaptation of the Israeli series of the same name, and it's described as a story of "drugs, sex, identity, trauma, social media, love and friendship all told by a lying, drug addicted 17-year-old girl named Rue."
Zendaya will be taking on the role of Rue and it sounds like it could be another great series for HBO. The Disney channel stars always seem to feel the need to shed their good-girl skin and do something dark and edgy.
Zendaya will be joined by Maude Apatow as Lexi, Brian “Astro” Bradley as McKay, Angus Cloud as Fezco, Eric Dane as Cal, Alexa Demie as Maddy,...

In HBO’s “Sharp Objects,” something’s not right in the small town of Wind Gap, Missouri.
The drama stars Amy Adams with a Southern accent as Camille Preaker, a reporter who returns to her hometown to investigate a string of murders involving young girls. But as Camille dives deeper into the psychological puzzle, things start to hit a little too close to her own disturbed past.
To make matters worse, Camille isn’t greeted with a warm homecoming — her mother, played by Patricia Clarkson, tells her that the house isn’t “up to par for visitors” (even though she’s family), and her little sister tells her their mother warned her about Camille, saying she’s “dangerous.”

It’s quite an achievement to set back gay representation on Italian screens by about 30 years, but Valeria Golino’s second feature as director manages to accomplish that dubious feat. “Euphoria” is a dolled-up mess of a movie featuring Riccardo Scamarcio as a rich and glamorous “entrepreneur” who takes it on himself to hide his brother’s cancer diagnosis from everyone involved. Don’t bother asking why, because the only possible answer, reinforced at every turn, is that each and every character is intellectually deficient. The real surprise is how Golino, whose directorial debut “Miele” showed such subtle maturity, could think that this mess of a script was worth putting on screen. Slick production values, a name cast and the kind of family-centric disease-of-the-week storyline beloved of matinee audiences will equal good box office at home.
If Golino and her fellow scriptwriters brought in gay author Walter Siti to add an authentically queer vibe,...

Euphoria (Euforia), actress Valeria Golino's second directing effort, takes a disappointing step back from her promising first film, Honey (Miele). Italy’s film industry is coming out of a cyclical slump, with executives boasting about a burst of innovation, vitality and growth as they talk up the substantial five-feature cinema Italiano presence at Cannes.
Indeed, the two Italian titles in the fest’s competition — Matteo Garrone’s “Dogman,” described as an “urban Western,” and Alice Rohrwacher’s “Happy as Lazzaro,” about a young peasant who travels in time — are somewhat symptomatic of a shift from naturalism into new genres, which, in terms of narratives, is the biggest novelty. The third Italian pic in the official selection, Valeria Golino’s “Euphoria,” in Un Certain Regard, is a more classic drama about two brothers with opposite characters, but with a fresh flourish.

In the 1980s, Italian multi-hyphenate Valeria Golino starred in Hollywood films such as “Rain Man,” ”Big Top Pee-wee,” and “Hot Shots!,” before returning to Italy. She’s now at Cannes in Un Certain Regard as a director for the second time with “Euphoria,” about two brothers with opposite characters unexpectedly brought together after their paths had long split.
“Euphoria” revolves around a charismatic gay man. What inspired you?
A dear friend of mine went through a tough time with his brother who was very sick. A story he told me was the seed for the film.
How would you describe the protagonist?
The hero of the movie is a young man who is very shrewd, promiscuous, a coke-head, a liar, and totally amoral, though I never judge him. It’s not a morality tale.
Unlike your previous film, “Miele,” you explore a male universe this time. Was it harder?
No.

This year, the company headed by former Rai Com exec Catia Rossi brings a strong line-up to the Cannes market, headlined by Valeria Golino’s second directorial outing Euphoria, which is playing in Un Certain Regard. The film stars Riccardo Scamarcio and Valerio Mastandrea as two brothers at odds who are forced to live together in Rome for a few months.
True Colours is also kickstarting sales on a pair of new comedies.
