Maybe I've had too many trips turn on me, but how can this episode possibly be one of the lowest rated of the series?
For this fourth season, it seems the writers of Broad City wanted to challenge themselves artistically. The first episode features fragmented timelines and wasn't set presently as the show had been insofar.
The episode Mushroom once against attempts to push the boundaries, it being told in a way that imitates the sort of stream-of-consciousness, up/down, mentality one has when they are high. It also features very fun, psychedelic animated segments that further enhance this sort of thinking.
I thought that the comedy was consistent with the rest of the series and the creators continue to demonstrate their wit and humor, all of this while keeping themselves fresh and trying new things.
