Hey, kids! Have you all survived the holidays? Well, you may not next year, because that's when indie horror anthology Deathcember should be rolling around. Yep, you got it ... it's 24 holiday themed horror shorts from 24 international directors for what will quite possibly be the bloodiest advent calendar ever. The director roster is a blend of familiar and new faces with the likes of Trent Haaga (68 Kill), Sadrac Gonzalez-Perellon (Black Hollow Cage), Pollyanna McIntosh (best known these days for her role on The Walking Dead), Korean maverick Lee Sang-woo, Chelsea Stardust (currently directing Satanic Panic for Fangoria), Isaac Exban (The Similars), Ruggero Deodato (Cannibal Holocaust) and Lucky McKee (May) among the more notable names. We are mere days away from the fourteenth edition of Fantaspoa, Brazil's premiere genre film festival and the largest of its kind in Latin America. The final wave of titles have been announced and the genre goodness just keeps piling on. Very cool titles like The Crescent, Black Hollow Cage, Haguzza, The Laplace's Demon and Rabbit are now in the mix. Apart from the films there will also be nine masterclasses led by filmmakers like Aaron Moorhead and Justin Benson, Mick Garris and Jenn Wexler. For the first time the festival will host a co-production market called FantasMercado. The only name of the bunch that pops out is Argentinian director Demian Rugna (Aterrados). But there is no shortage of cool titles, at...

Quick takes from the 25th Raindance Film Festival, with public screenings in London through October 1st, 2017.
Black Hollow Cage
Thirteen-year-old Alice (Lowena McDonell) lives alone with her father (Julian Nicholson) in a striking modernist house in the middle of the woods. She is getting used to her new bionic arm and believes that their dog is actually her dead mother, though Dad insists this is not the case. (What Dad actually believes about the voice synthesizer the dog wears around her neck, which appears to be speaking the dog’s thoughts [the voice of Lucy Tillett], is not something Alice ever asks him. Maybe in this apparently future world, people’s pets talk to them as a matter of course.) And then two very young strangers, siblings Erika (Haydée Lysander) and Paul (Marc Puiggener) — she is badly beaten up, and he is mute — appear out of nowhere and disrupt Alice’s existence. Oh, and there...
