Ada Apa dengan Commercial, Never as Good as the First Time
A very huge dissapontment for this sequel for an #indonesianfilm that status is #cultfilm First, there's no Ladya Cherryl as Alya. Alya oh Alya, you're the second beautiful character after Cinta here. But why making the good character Is dead? We can wait for her to finish the film school, then filming this sequel. Maybe her talent as good filmmaker can join to write a good script for this movie, not only as an actor.

Second, the production less than a year but so hurry up for a long waited love story, makes the developing is leave a big plothole. Where story of nine years behind and logic things here doesn't play much. The comedy of Mamet & mIlly, are you going to make a stinky romance comedy, oh come on! The other actor like Ario Bayu is only sticker or red herring. You can cast another model with not big name for just a stick in cast. Maybe they choose him because he in Drupadi.

Third, the setting is only good frame for a painting. Not influence the story. This only nostalgic moments for a long parted couple in a long time. The wanderlustime traveling place remind me of 3 Hari Untuk Selamanya (that's a good road movie!). I hope the exposure of the local place in Magelang and Yogya doesn't give a load of garbage trash. Another part of setting here is the art scene. From music, poetry, arts, and coffee. In poetry I prefer the first movie, where the spirit of youth and independence is fires the generation. Eko Nugroho Art Installment is great but doesn't affect the plot. But Papermoon Puppet Theatre is the best part because they play a relevance love story just like Rangga & Cinta situation.

Fourth, Product Placement. Ada Apa dengan Client? Yes this is a great huge market and sales. All the sponsor want to advertise in this "GREAT COMMERCIAL EVER" But I feel like a chaos, can you make it more nicely? Fifth. The Title Focus. This title is about a girl named Cinta, where she has a confusion heart. This is her next story. So the scripwriter must be focus on her. But saddenly the good character she had in the first movie is lost in this sequel. You can compare another great example like Before Sunset (west side cinema) or In The Mood for Love (east side cinema). That's a great long waited sequel (10 years even more to make) where they focus on the character, the story, and the mood. Some might say, if you lost character, you lost everything.

Sixth. The Ending, fool rush in. Yeah you making a great fan service here but it's too rushy. In the end it's just like another Korean drama. I hope there's a spin off movie focus in "Genk Cinta" where Alya still alive, please Miles please.

Seventh. The Music. It's fairly not bad. But unfortunately Never as Good as the First Time. Maybe now it's get too commercial, not like when the first movie is get the late 90's sound and early noughties, Haha. But "Ratusan Purnama" is great as the first movie theme, the duo with orchestrated strings just sounds great. And the noted here is the "Bimbang" covers by the children of Titi DJ & Anto-Melly. The opening is cool, then music starts feel the 90s spirit where Potret lives.

Oh yeah in the end, maybe the goal of this movie is only for success in quantity, not quality.

Hey, what's up with love?
reinaldowilliam81817 May 2016
So, first things first I'll say feel free to judge this movie as you see fit as I will judge this one from my point of view as a pretty die hard fan.

Let's speak frankly here, first of course the movie isn't perfect. Heck it's not even close to the first one. Why? Because the condition is not like what it used to be. We're not here to see "Geng Cinta" as a bunch of happy and innocent high school girls. They are adults now.

Second, I agree that it felt a bit rushed in the production, bunch of plothole and all. Still though, for me you can't cover all those years lost in Rangga and Cinta's love life in just about 1 hour and 45 minutes.

Third, well I do miss Alya as she was the one who tied the gang and still supporting Cinta to chase after Rangga and made all of this possible. Because she can't join the shooting she was written out of the second movie, well I can't blame the crews though, they have schedule as well here, so that's that. A shame, but the shooting must go on.

Lastly, "it's too much drama". Well IT IS A DRAMA MOVIE, so don't complain about the amount of drama in the movie, instead I'll say this: How they handle the drama is actually not bad. Yes it's cheesy but isn't that what romance movie does? Creating a cheesy situation and then end it with a fluttering romance in your hearts? And I must say that they did it pretty good.

Oh and 1 more thing that I love from AADC 2 is that the product placement isn't that much disturbing, it is proportionally placed and actually feels pretty natural. Also I love the Soundtrack, Melly Goeslaw and Anto Hoed did a decent job again in the series, well done! So, I would recommend the movie to others, first and foremost to the ones that had watched the prequel. For me it's 8/10.

Great, not so bad for a sequel
meydiana-6524231 May 2021
If you watched the first movie, you'll be happy and dragged into the story. It's kinda nostalgic, since the last movie was out about more a decade ago. But if this the first time you watch this, you'll be confused about their story, how it was begin and end up like this.

The movie totally romantic, you'll see nice views between Brooklyn and Yogyakarta (apparently Jakarta didn't get any large portion on this movie). As i said before, you'll get along to the story, and will go deeper questioning what's going on between them after all this time? You'll be happy to see then again, i promise you. You'll miss about Alya (Ladya Cheryl) and you'll shocked after you found out about her later on.

For me, honestly i'm glad that they made this movie. It satisfied my curiosity. They're doing great for this movie, even there's new characters come, and a old characters are gone. Recommended for you who like the old movie. And if you haven't see the first AADC, i suggest you to watch that first before you planning to watch this movie.

Beautiful sequel across Jogja and NY
bruno_occhipinti12 November 2016
Warning: Spoilers
To be frank, I knew nothing of AADC#2 when I first watched the sequel of this modern love story. I found it beautiful and addictive. The characters are well tuned and it flows nicely, though quite slowly at the beginning. It is hard to pinpoint why this movie strikes a chord. It is true that the scenario is not particularly elaborate, and neither was it for its first episode. It is a beautiful closure to a stellar debut. It could have been better for sure, but it does not betray at all the first release. Though there is certainly a commercial dimension in the exercise, it remains a genuine artistic performance of a great couple that will long host your mind.

Starting with a recurring criticism, it is true that, at times, the movie looks like a long commercial for a travel agency focusing on Jogja (Jogyakarta) and New York. Though it can be perceived as a weakness or even a betrayal of the original story, the cities in which the characters are immersed play an important role. Jogja in particular is essential. We follow the characters across the most beautiful places that the city and its surroundings can offer. It results among other things in a series of long dialogues in cozy and arty cafes, an artistic performance in the fascinating Papermoon Puppet Theatre (http://www.papermoonpuppet.com/), a visit of the ancient ruins of Ratu Boko Palace, and the true apotheosis of the sunrise from Punthuk Setumbu Hill. This aspect of the movie seems largely borrowed from the masterful "Before Sunrise" (Ethan Hawke, Julie Delpy) but there is more to it. The decorum serves as a mean to mend their relationship. Though it is hard to believe that such a break-up could be repaired in less than 24h, the places visited through the day and and night create the magic needed to achieve the impossible task. In fact, the whole movie is a total immersion in the world of creativity, arts, music, and beauty in all its forms. And, it is true that it was the artistic side of the two characters that attracted them in the first place. In AADC#1, it is literature and music, more than anything else, that brought them together (see poetry competition in AADC#1). Otherwise Cinta and Rangga have actually little in common, and are actually more like the opposite faces of the same coin. Cinta is a popular girl, expressive and spontaneous, revealing her gorgeous smile on any occasion, and living surrounded by close friends and attentive parents. Rangga instead, is secretive and isolated, brooding lonely, with sole friend the janitor of his school. He is constantly immersed in his world of books, and living with an old father, ostracized by the former government for revealing the corruption in the system. Having said that, Cinta has slightly changed in AADC#2. She is less prone to intense reactions (except for a slap and her memorable kiss) and slightly more introvert. She still cracks her beautiful smile but does not overuse it. She is older now. Rangga is still introvert, but he owns a cafe in New-York, not the most likely business for someone who once lived locked in books. He also seems cooler than ever and more confident. Overall, the two characters have evolved positively. They are more mature and even stronger in their talents. Both clearly suffered from the end of their romance and still do, as we repeatedly see them carrying relics of their former love story. They are now both successful in their own way. Cinta manages an arts gallery in Jakarta and Rangga, besides his cafe in New York, writes articles for a prestigious review. The lives they built for themselves reflect their original personality. And it feels more real to see them in this type of environment, compared to the short AADC#2 version of 2014 which looked completely alien in comparison (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H1Xw5oEoGbo). In this new long- awaited version, the characters are credible and displays a natural extension of their former selves. Even physically, the actors look like they are close to their old style from AADC#1. Rangga has a boyish look with the same long hair, and Cinta is very natural, with her relax vacation clothing and a discrete make up. I guess the director wanted us to reconnect easily with them. 14 years have passed since AADC#1, though the random encounter in the movie is supposed to happen only 9 years later. Credit should be given to the director Riri Riza whom, despite a long gap, built characters that look authentic and match their original interpretation. Also omnipresent and essential in maintaining the flow is the music of Melly Goeslaw and Anton Hoed. It was already a major asset in AADC#1 and still is in this second movie. The musics and songs really add a fluid layer of lightness and softness to all the scenes. The music gels beautifully with the story line and carries the characters through their long day of beautiful experiences. And of course, what drives the movie as it did so well in the first instance is the perfect alchemy between Cinta and Rangga. It is a chance of course because the movie will not surprise you for its complex scenario, nor its action scenes. Even if they speak a fair amount, it is actually more their silences and the way they look at each other that are more telling. Dian and Nicholas, as per their real names, match flawlessly again as they did 14 years ago. This natural connection captures the viewers and we are uncontrollably drawn to their destiny, eager to follow their sorrows, doubts, and emotions. Their fit seems eerily natural and it is hard to believe these two are not lovers away from the camera (they are not). Each in their unique way as light and shadow dominates the space like two grand actors. Worth watching!

An Unnecassary Sequel
syazwanrosman4 May 2016
Warning: Spoilers
I really love Ada Apa Dengan Cinta (AADC)(2002). I love the whole thing of it. Cinta (Dian Sastro) carries the whole movie by herself. Kayaknya we were diving into her soul, her mind, her spirit in AADC (2002). That confusion, sadness, happiness, passion shown by Cinta was really damn good.

But sadly though, AADC 2 was too damn disappointing. In addition to that, if you watch it in Malaysia, all the kissing scene (3 Kissing Scene) have been cut. Sangat "Cibai". A real "Potong Stim".The movie itself was already crappy plus the cut, it could have never been shittier. From the start of the movie till the end I couldn't stop myself from peeking at my watch, hoping that it will end, but dammit it doesn't end any sooner than I thought. It was really dreadfully long. It was like you were being forced to eat something that you didn't love, let say "Bakso". And then even when you're full, you're still being forced to eat it even more and more and in the end, you'll end up puking. So what are the things that actually made this AADC 2 super crap and super bad? Well 1st of all is because I expect AADC 2 to be a good drama about love, to explore deeply and dive into what have been happening to Rangga & Cinta after so many years.Tapi what did you get were a lot of stupid jokes by Milly, which made the movie turned a bit into a stinky comedy-romance movie. I really don't think that the comedy elements are necessary since if i wanted to watch comedy i wouldn't have watch AADC2.Instead, I'll be watching Zoolander 2 or some other things. All the "try to be funny" and comedy elements were so unnecessary for me. 2nd, all the things looks kinda made up. For example like you've made yourself a perfect house.A damn perfect house. But somehow, you felt like like you wanted to add something to it which in the end made your house from "Perfect" turned to "Garbage". That story about Rangga's mom was like being made up just for the sake of that "Coincidence" cliché.3rd, is because of Cinta (Dian Sastro). I do believe in her talents and her soul based on AADC(2002). But sadly in AADC2, the director doesn't really focus on her at all. We must know that the strength of AADC is Cinta. She's the heart of it. But by downplaying her role, it really really leave a hole in the movie. A big hole really, that can't be fixed by Rangga's coolness.

To be honest, i really do regret spending my money to watch this. I should have watched other piece of crap instead of this stinky AADC2. Credit goes to Melly Goeslaw for creating a good song for this movie. But your song can't fix the cancer of this movie though. Astalavista, I'm not giving any rating to this movie because it deserves a negative.

The whole Movie all about
friddenelgar8 May 2016
When i watch this movie the 1st time. I expected more from the director and script writer. but end up the movie become a comedy romance movie. Cutting tempo were really distract me. The only best moment of this movie is the 45 min that rangga and cinta spending together. Other then that the story line too flat to me. Why rangga mom need to be in side the frame and its become like the big title. we understand that this movie is to answer all the question that we have before. Its have the answer but not in this kind of way. Maybe Riri Riza don't look deep into the AADC1 where the sweet and things that we want to see. To many cliché on this movie. Hope if there a continue of this and better then this.

Below Expectation
fernallfn23 May 2016
Warning: Spoilers
When the first time they announced there will be another sequel for ADA APA DENGAN CINTA I was excited but when I saw the movie I was super disappointed because there are scenes that needed to be taken off. Such as when Rangga walk about new York city through Brooklyn. I think it had nothing to do with the plot. because people can see those scenes like 2-3 times. I understand that the writer trying to visualize the new York city. But I guess they can do it in the smart way without put some of unnecessary scene. Such as a couple shots of time square or upper east side landmarks and change to Brooklyn bridge and queens area. I think they're enough. The second one is, less intrigue and twist because I was expecting more complicated conflict such as Cinta being kidnapped by his fiancé because He's mad after caught Rangga walk out of the door from Cinta's gallery and Rangga came to save the day because He is willing to do anything even to risk his life only to save the Girl he loves. Or maybe something more thrilling. So people can follow the ups and down of emotion during the movie so they don't get bored like I did. The romance in the other hand is taking my breath away when Rangga and Cinta going on adventure around Yogyakarta all night long. But that's it.. The rest of the movie is really flat.. Because weak script, lack of character building and less of emotion so I thing 2 hours is too long.
