A Well Worn Mystery Story With A Few Twists.
P3n-E-W1s32 February 2018
Here we have the well-worn story of a dead husband and the wife who won't believe he's dead. While out on a vacation celebrating their anniversary Parker (Sirow) is supposedly killed in a whitewater canoeing accident. However, during a visit to San Francisco a few months later his wife, Gabrielle (Vaugier), swears she see's him in a busy market. But of course, he disappears before she can get to him. This and a few other strange events prompt her to start her own investigation into his death. The twists are well woven into the story though they're nothing new and you can figure them out quite quickly. That though is pretty much the only issue I had with the story.

Emmanuelle Vaugier gives another solid performance as a wife thrown into a broiling situation. She handles the many emotions the story calls for in her stride. Doubt over their marriage, fear over her missing husband, sadness at the wake, the awareness that something isn't right, understanding at the outcome. I know why this actress gets hired. Shame it's the rest of the cast which lets the acting down. Cameron Bancroft as Detective Asher is so blank and emotionless, somebody should take his pulse to make sure he's still alive. At times the same can be said about Kristen Harris' portrayal of Genna, though she does have a few scene's where she comes alive. The trouble is you just don't care for her. When she comes to Gabrielle with the story of being beaten up by her drunken husband, she just doesn't sell it enough. Had this character come across better then the film would have been stronger for it. I thought it might have been the writing or direction that was the cause of the characters problems, but then Adam Hurtig comes along as Travis. Travis is irascible, greaving, angry, and blames his sister in law for his brother's death. Most of the time this can be seen in his demeanour and on his face. Hurtig is an actor to watch.

As for the direction, Jeff Beasley does a good job and tries to add different camera shots to show mood. There's a scene after Parker's death where Gabrielle is laying on her bed thinking, mourning, and remembering him. Beasley tries to show her feelings at this time by a series of steady near still shots as she shifts about the bed. Five seconds of her laid on her back, head on pillows. Five seconds of her laid on her front, head towards the foot of the bed. Five seconds of her sat on the edge at the foot of the bed. Though this didn't work for me, I have to appreciate that he tried to add something different to keep the story and film interesting to the viewers. His whitewater shot at the beginning was very good, though not really tied to the film... unless it's Gabrielle's accident we learn about later.

I enjoyed this film and would recommend it to all armchair detectives, whodunnit pundits, and mystery and thriller fans everywhere for at least one viewing. It doesn't even have to be raining outside. Though I would say it's a lazy day film... so a good one to watch in bed on a Sunday morning or after a pleasant and filling Sunday dinner.

Title Change, Incomplete Credits
Stoshie10 October 2020
Once again Lifetime has shown a movie under a different name than the original. It was just broadcast under the title "Betrayed by My Husband". I wonder why they do that? Though the new title does sound more like the type of title Lifetime uses than "Washed Away" does. Still, I am curious as to why they change titles on some movies. This isn't the first time that has happened.

The credits here on IMDB are incomplete, too. The daughter, Lexa, is not credited. She doesn't have a major role, but certainly one large enough to warrant a credit. Once again, strange.

As for the movie itself, it's just another formulaic Lifetime movie, though with some semi-interesting editing. Still, not good enough to earn it more than 4 stars.

Just Plain Bad
tzumommy24 January 2021
You call this acting?? Try as she may even Emmanuelle Vaugier couldn't save this movie from all of the BAD acting. The actress who played Brooklyn did not get the part on her acting skills alone, quite surely she is the producer or directors wife, daughter or niece. You can also see the twists and turns from a mile away. Don't waste your time watching such horrible acting, with the exception of Emmanuelle Vaugier .

Washed Away/Betrayed By My Husband
deedrala11 October 2020
Yet another Lifetime movie with a changed title (Betrayed By My Husband) to mislead viewers into thinking it's a new movie they haven't seen before. These shamelessly dishonest ploys by such a major network as Lifetime are nothing short of despicable: not only changing titles and year of release, but also calling old movies "premieres" when they've been shown many times over the years since their original release. LMN should not be allowed to be so blatantly deceptive.

As for this movie - it deserves 2 out of 10 due to the convoluted unoriginal plot, the bad acting by most of the cast (Emmanuelle Vaugier still cannot act well - mainly due to the fact that she seems to always be smiling underneath her facial expressions, like she's ready to break out laughing any second), and the usual Lifetime plot holes.

I continue to wade through the majority of mediocre to bad Lifetime flicks solely to stumble upon the rare gems that I've seen from them before and hope they're still capable of.

Terrible acting
greenfield-574-57659814 April 2020
The start of the movie was ok and I decided to go on after checking it in the beginning: the story was promising but then after a while I realized the plot was not developing well due to terrible acting ( apart few exceptions) and not so good direction. If you put in the bucket a lack Of empathy and a general sense of "nonsense" about some of the scenes development, you feel a lot of things are not working in this film. I usually don't mind to see those things of thrillers with suspense but this is one of the worst I ever seen.

What you expect from a TV movie. Sub par acting mildly intriguing but worth the watch.

It's an LMN tv movie "7"

This is a decent LMN movie. It moved along quite well. It had a lot of twists and turns, and the storyline stayed borderline believable.

Terrible
mariannehazell10 May 2021
I thought this was a good theme for a movie until I started watching it. Terrible acting - terrible plot - what a waste of time. Unfortunately it was an obvious "Canadian made" movie - sorry guys - this rated a zero!!

Interesting - with a lot of creepy characters
mja5813 February 2021
I thought this made for TV was actually pretty good with some interesting plot twists, and a satisfying ending. However, I found many of the characters particularly unpleasant that I have to comment:

Character What I thought of them

Parker Creepy Weasel Brooklyn Two-timing, money hungry, witch Travis Creepy tool

Anyway, it was fun to watch, especially the ending.

Just an awful movie!
Chartreuse112 October 2020
When we saw this movie premiered originally in 2017 and was made in Canada, we thought, this should be good! Well, we couldn't have been more disappointed. The movie was confusing and all over the map. Lots and lots of plotholes and a terrible script. Even Emmanuelle Vaugier couldn't save this one from being washed away! Horrible!

Predictable but Emmanuelle Vaugier worth watching
RockThisTown13 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Emmanuelle Vaugier is about the only reason to watch this mess. But . . . If you don't want to watch it just to see her, here's the plot: Cheating hubby fakes his own death for insurance money to pay debt(s) to the mob. When supposedly-dead hubby's business partner turns up dead for real, wife is criminally charged so daughter & best friend then turn on her. However, EV plays Columbo & tracks down hubby's location, after which justice does prevail in a cringe-worthy final crime-solved scene with mob guy, now-surfaced & still very much alive husband & supposedly-best friend. If you have nothing else to do on a rainy day & like EV, give it a watch. Otherwise, don't bother.

My head is still spinning
sadagnolo12 April 2022
I normally do not write a review but could not pass after seeing this horribly executed movie ..... Worse directing EVVVVVEEEER!! There was not one camera shot over 3 seconds. Most of them were 1 and 2 seconds each with 90% being stupid close-ups of ears, teeth, necklaces, car windows, an eye, shoulder, trees, a neck, necklace, a backside and could name 100 more. There was NO TIME to focus on the characters and what they were "trying" to say from all that jumping around and all those ridiculous and USELESS camera closeups. The dialogue was ridiculous. They were mostly one word or 1 sentence, SOMETIMES 2 sentences! As far as the "scenes??", I felt I was looking at jumping beans hurrying to say a line or two (remember 1-3 second shots) and trying to act their part "convincingly". All of this combined in the 1-3 second shots got me so dizzy and frustrated that I have dots in front of my eyes because I was trying to focus; my stomach is actually nauseated as I write this review. I could tell watching this movie in the first 3 minutes it was made by amateurs who THOUGHT they were being creative; then again I thought MAYBE it would right itself and have some redemptive qualities,,,,,,WRONG!!!!!,,,,,,,I slugged it out a total of 27 more minutes I kept fast forwarding) because I thought this "movie??" must have some redemptive quality seems almost impossible that it did not make the chopping block (from the powers-that-be) and thrown into a dumpster. The ending was pretty predictable. The best actor was the investigator. I really can't blame it on the actors which probably performed each "scene?" in one take....as "directed???". This director needs to go back to director school.
