The only good thing is Vegeta
sam_smithreview30 May 2016
First of, let me say that this whole season has episode which are just like teaser's for the next episode which then gets things done very quickly. This episode we had Goten and Trunks fuse together to take on the copy of Vegeta and go SS3 which still had no chance against the new SSB power level, which in itself is a shame, because now the strongest fighter in DBZ is pretty weak. Hope Goten and Trunks start training again and become powerful again.

Back to the show, once Vegeta beats them with extreme ease, we get the show's savior come to the rescue. Which was great, but the build up of the two actually talking and Goku realizing that he gets the chance to square of Vegeta went for 13 of the episode and it ended on the beginning of the fight. Which the show has done SO many times before.

The coolest aspect of this episode for me, and the reason for my above average score for the episode was that Vegeta or at least the identical copy of Vegeta did the same bad ass thing that he did during the Majin Buu saga which is get taken control to gain more power so that he can beat Goku, and in this episode he destroys his creator for the chance to square of against Goku in a full out fight!

That was awesome and a great nod to the old school Vegeta that we all love and remember.

Vegeta - Now in Purple! Warning: Spoilers
The second episode of the short Potofu arc, 'Vegeta Disappears?! The Threat of Duplicated Vegeta!', has the best character of the Dragon Ball series literally face himself. Vegeta fights a duplicated version of himself and loses - take that as you will. As usually, once the enemy has overpowered the Sayian prince, it is time for Goku to step in. This battle by proxy amuses Vegeta, who might or might not be entirely powerless and fading into nothingness, but is taking that extremely well. Hey, after all, that's hardly the first time.

An honorary mention goes to Gotenks, who makes an appearance after a break. Although neither Gohan nor Trunks seem to have aged since we saw him last, Gotenks has now evolved into a teenager. It is not a great look for him.

The decisive fight between Goku and Vegeta 2.0 does not start in this episode in earnest, but the instalment succeeds in making you crave grape Jell-O.

Decent filler but nothing amazing, really needed to be longer

Warning: Spoilers
So it seems we have this small story ark to fill the gap between the series 3 main storyline ending and series 4 main storyline starting.

Thus the writers have decided to go back to basic and have Vegeta and Goku fight. But whereas previously, or at least since Vegeta joined the Z squad, the fights between Goku and Vegeta has just been training/nothing too violent, using a clone allows us to see a pure fight without anything being held back.

This would have been interesting to have last for a far chunk of a season. I would have preferred it to the pointless Freiza rebirth saga. But given that series 4 is just 1 more episode away, I'd be surprised if this isn't wrapped up in the next episode.

For something brief, it was good!

This episode continues the previous one's story as it features Vegeta's clone showing off his(its?) full power. It's said that Vegeta has only five minutes left or he'll vanish away. Yeah, it's definitely longer than that. I can't really complain, because at least the fighting is well paced. The clone has Vegeta's personality, so it can't absorb Trunks' powers, as he's Vegeta's son. He does fuse to become Gotenks and the Vegeta clone has no problem beating up him.

These episodes were mostly entirely pointless, but we did get some high stakes. We are gambling for Vegeta's life and he's already died like thrice already. I knew this wouldn't last long. The animation is still really good. It helps that we have the same likeable characters. I don't believe this is based on a manga, although there is one that might have come later. ****
