Pretty Good
firstofcooks-3909613 July 2016
I like the show. It looks at real cases and this guy was obviously good at solving them. I have to be honest, it does remind me off a spin-off of the Detective Kenda series with a different flavor to it. I like the fact that other detectives and reporters chime in and give different perspectives to the stories. I hope it makes it to season 2 because I love detective shows, but I know the market is being saturated with them and unless you've got the best of the best, your show may not stay around. Not fond of Detective McFadden's attempts at humor, but I still like the show. I also like the fact that he investigates cases all over Charlotte and not just "In the Hood." Which is what I thought it would be when I saw the previews.

Love It!
sumatt7 June 2017
I read some of the reviews on this show and was shocked! I just can't imagine not liking Det. McFadden! He's intelligent, funny and I love his laugh along with that larger then life smile! I even love his ego. I can't even imagine what it takes to be a Homicide Detective. A special breed. The show is done excellently with the Detective explaining his thoughts while he is investigating and where it finally leads him. As for people who have written about his ghetto slang again I like it. It is who the man is and I watch the show to see that. This show and "Murder Chose Me" are my favorites. Very different individuals but with the same ego. I love the acting specifically when you can read someone's thoughts by looking in their eyes. That's excellent acting. I never would have thought my favorite TV shows would be about true crime specifically where I don't watch much TV but it just goes to show ID did a great job choosing Det. McFadden and the way the show is directed.

LOVE new show "I Am Homicide"
freclie22 June 2016
"I Am Homicide" is a very interesting show with real stories of murder cases worked by Detective Garry McFadden in the Charlotte area. It's a well done television show showcasing his great detective work over a 30 year career. Interviews of real people are incorporated with reenactments of the case. These cases are presented in a way that makes them interesting to follow. But the true magic of this show is Detective McFadden himself! He is incredibly smart, witty, and extremely entertaining! He has some of the funniest sayings ever, such as "if you want to run with me, you better have shoes on" Watch this man and you'll see what I mean. What an amazing police officer who has solved a huge number of complicated cases with intelligence and charm - a true gem! Go and give this one a whirl.

Awesome show
queenmom-3803424 August 2016
This is an awesome show. The intro music is so chilling. Garry McFadden is so calm, cool, and collected. He is so funny with all of his southern idioms. He was a great detective who solved more murders than Joe Kenda. The detective who wrote the negative and racist review that you couldn't understand the black witnesses is just upset because he doesn't have a show, lol. Unless, that reviewer is deaf or don't understand English, then I have no idea what he is talking about. The actors in the show are all very good. The show is very interesting and informative. I love this show and hope it is brought back for a second season. ID channel really has some very good shows. I find myself watching the ID channel all the time. Keep up the good work ID

Terrible show
samreeter17 July 2017
Hope this show doesn't last. Love Investigation Discovery but this show is just a cheap copy of Homicide Hunter, right down to his crossing his arms across his chest at the end of the intros. Poor pronunciation, can't understand, sloppy, unrealistic situations. I turn to another channel it irritates me so much.

one of the best shows on ID
keona-7698513 June 2017
I think this show is great A lot of people commenting did not give the show a chance they are referring to the slang or how people speak in the south before giving the show a chance. For someone to comment that this very successful detective is not educated is just ridiculous. Some comments should not be allowed it should be about what the show is about not what you think about the host. I like this show he's original and he's being his self unlike a lot of other phony people. I love him and Joe Kenda. The show is great and I see how his down-to-earth personality probably helped him a lot in his career he is the type of person many types of people would feel comfortable around

Don't want to watch
taduvall-7055512 May 2017
Just the previews to the series where he says, "I solve 'bofe'" (as in "both") turned me off immediately. After that, I had no desire to watch. Don't insult my intelligence by airing a program where the main character can't articulate the English language. Also in the previews he was very conceited saying he was so well dressed, you might mistake him for a pastor. Really?! Please, enough said.

Love It! different strokes for different folks

Warning: Spoilers
I like all true crimes, its not boring at all when its the truth about past murders. When I use to watch true crimes I was learning about different characteristics of a myriad different kinds of people. To understand why they murder, now I watch true crime shows to keep up with the world as it has become. People have become more cruel, more selfish and extremely self-centered without considering the aftermath of their deed and how they are supposed to get away with it. Murder is not a PRIVILEGE that you earn. Murder is murder and anyone that thinks of committing a murder, there are consequences. I love this show, but I keep missing it.

It sound like a hater trying to hate. Somebody thought this would be enlightening to the human race, its obvious you don't like him because he's black. If you really want to know, its exactly like Kenda, except Kenda is white (your probably are white) and he's in an predominately white town. and no, the English language its not a cultural thing.

I love your show
miriamogaz27 June 2017
I really like this unique style of story telling, the detective's personality really makes the show. He touches you in way that you fill for the victims and you cheer for the hero that brings down the criminals. It is also so nice to see something different from all the reality shows the are based on women yelling at each other or anyone . So in my opinion you brought television back to life and thank you for that.

It's a new favorite for me
yerlo1 July 2017
Reviews here either love it or hate it. The haters seem to disparage it for not being big city slick. Watch TV for that. I'm a long time true crime addict and this show is every bit as good as Homicide Hunter but with an entirely different flavor. One thing, it's in the South and sports some local dialect. If that puts your nose out of joint, get over yourself and just enjoy the crime solving. Garry McFadden, our detective, speaks home style, just like you would be jawing with friends. His approach to crime and criminals is educational. You almost feel like you could learn to do this job. What I really like is the enthusiasm he has for the chase. There is no doubt he loves his job--just the kind of guy that should be doing it.

I Love I am Homicide
junebugs-724968 February 2017
I looked forward to, and watched, even recorded, all of the I Am Homicide shows. Garry McFadden has so many antidotes he is hilariously funny, all the while, solving homicides in all areas and financial districts of Charlotte! I found all the shows interesting and intriguing. I even got my husband to watch. He liked the 1st one so much, that he watched the entire series, as it aired, which he has never done, before or since! We both have been looking forward to another season. I am so disappointed, as I cannot find any info on another season of I Am Homicide. Pleaseee bring I Am Homicide back! I guess I am tired of Lt. Kenda - just no more intrigue. (The ID channel and OWN are on in at least one room 25/7. (I don't sleep much!))

Very disappointed
michellebrown-7464717 July 2016
This show is awful. He is talking too much and I don't like the slang.I would like to see a more professional person. I Will not watch another episode.I was very bored, because of the way he was talking. I think this would have been a better show without the constant talking, bragging, and slang. I am very disappointed. The story line is good, but his character is very boastful, and unappealing. I didn't take him seriously when he was talking. He is constantly talking about himself rather than the victims. He is bragging about how much of a good cop he was, rather than focusing on the victims. I am not sure why he was chosen for this show.

Amateur dressed all buttons buttoned
suave-1664319 June 2017
The guy is sharply dressed but makes the rookie mistake in the commercial by buttoning the last button on his suit coat.I can expect a young man with a single mother to make this distracting mistake but not a 50 year old man. What's worse is the wardrobe department didn't know any better!

Love this detective show!!!
kisami7776 June 2017
I like watching detective shows, but this show is so good. I love how Detective McFadden (Homicide) narrates the show. It just makes the story even that more interesting because he tells it like it is....and throws in that authenticity. I even like how the show starts when he says " If I'm getting out the car and I'm coming to your house, you don't want to see that". I LOVE IT... Hope this show stays on for a long time so I can see all his cases and watch every episode. Plus, I've gotten sick of watching 20/20, Dateline, 48 hours and all their re-runs. The same stories but each station is picking them up and titling them something else with current dates. Then you turn it on only to find out you've seen it a hundred times. Lastly, Homicide Hunter: Lt. Joe Kenda's show has nothing on "I am Homicide", never will.

Don't do it.
sknisnew-4629211 February 2017
What could have been possibly good was laid waste by ghetto slang and unintelligible dialogue. Talk like whoever you want to but get the crap out of your mouth before they say "cut". School English was skipped by the cast. I think with the current trend in television to let whoever is talking talk, that the idea of actually understanding someone got lost somewhere along the way. Why should a person try to or have to decipher what someone is saying in order to follow a plot during a television show? The cinematography and direction is above the norm but is cancelled out by the producers thinking that the average, well-educated person wants to reduce themselves to the level of the minority teen dropout.

Terrible show with a horrible main character
jeffchristian25 June 2017
This guy is arrogant as hell. Not too bright, and horribly annoying. They could use any ex cop from anywhere. But they chose this clown because he talks smack and thinks he's the best cop on the planet. It's a pathetic show. Find a better cop. At least a smarter one. This web site is pretty awful too.

Big Let Down
cossey-0684615 June 2016
The worse show on T.V. The promo was so exciting, however, the show was a major let down. You could not understand the black witnesses. The sound mixing was all over the place. To start the series off with this case was a mistake. It was so uneventful. The Detective was interesting at first, but then you had his female boss narrate the story. She did not come across as someone who cared, and not to be rude but dressed and sounded like a redneck. To kick off a new series with a case that had no twists and turns was a mistake. I wanted to see if this Detective was sharp in his thinking and used his skills to get results. Not this case, everything was handed to him. As a retired Detective that has been on numerous TV news programs, let me give you a hint. If you cannot understand what people are saying in the case, get someone else to speak for them. I am not sure if I will watch another episode.

Show is not realistic and does not show much of Charlotte,NC
raypatterson-7452728 June 2017
I am a Charlotte native, and was disappointed to learn this show is filmed in NJ. They show a few streets in Charlotte and some pics of the downtown(we call it uptown) area, but the police cars and officers are not of the CMPD. This show is nothing like Homicide hunter Lt. Joe Kenda, which is far better, but I think McFadden is trying to be the black version of Joe Kenda. Also, several things Mcfadden does in the show just don't make sense and the facts are confusing. He likes to use cheesy catch phrases like "ringy ding dingy" in describing a phone call, and he never gets a search warrant to search someone's car, person,or belongings. In the latest show titled A promise kept,he puts the suspect AND the witness in the same unmarked police car that he is driving, and has no shield separating the front and the backseat. This is not realistic and would never happen in a real life situation or arrest.Sorry, but this show is worse than last year, and i'm surprised the ID channel renewed it for a 2nd year.

A boring, muddled, fabricated mess
pcangusscrimm14 May 2023
It doesn't take long to figure out that this really isn't a show about homicide investigations but more a rambling, incoherent storytime for a man (Garry McFadden) with an inflated, fragile ego. His stories generally revolve around his clothing and his ability to trick suspects into saying things incriminating before they are mirandized which with some investigative searching is the reason so many of his investigations were tainted. Along with allowing suspects to falsely believe he was an attorney, he was also investigated by CMPD for withholding crucial evidence in homicide cases. Once these facts are known to the viewer, his anecdotal stories are laughable and untrue. It is also learned that several homicide detectives were asked to be on the show and refused due to Garry McFadden's intolerable personality and untruths. I guess if his history of unethical behavior weren't known to the viewer, a segment of the population that enjoys watching infomercials at 2 AM would really enjoy it. For the remainder, it's better to watch paint dry.

Clown
vandertoornmark23 April 2023
Low and behold..thats his favorite oneliner....he's so intelligent that he says 'aks' instead of ask..he acts like he solves everything by him self.

Complaning abouth his former chief (backstabbing) ..bragging abouth how great he is..he could fit right in a episode of Shaft as a pimp.... When his phone rings he always uses the term 'ringadingding'..it's the great McFadden show, using victims for his benefit.

If a cop like him came to me and act as cockey as he does without any proof,I would be realy pissed..accusing people in a disrespectfull manor,to find out later they are innocent.

He looks likw a clown, acts like a clown and still thinks he's serious

I don't like this guy.
