A kid's movie compared to the manga, but still manages to deliver some goods.
Humdinger6925 September 2018
Mai Chan's Daily Life is possibly the most infamous Ero-Guro (gore porn) manga ever made and I was excited and little skeptical about this live-action adaptation. Seeing as some of the scenarios depicted in the manga are not only extremely over-the-top and ridiculous (the tiger scene) but some would be illegal to recreate with real-life actors (the depraved acts involving young children). Indeed, this was Teletubbies compared to the manga, but it does still manage to squeeze in a palatable amount of Ero-Guro goodness in its slim running time.

Finger-chopping, high heels inserted into open wounds and eroticised disembowelment are just a few of the niceties that lie within. Of coarse, there is also no shortage of titillation and maid fetishism for those who are into that.

Clocking in at barely an hour, the movie doesn't outstay its welcome, and it doesn't pretend to be anything its not. I would love to see what the director could do with a bigger budget. Sequel maybe?

Not bad, but..

If you threw about Y300 million at this, it would be a great work of horror. It never touched on that the master rents poor Mai out for money to be tortured, and the fx would have been sooo much better.

I think it's a good try for the money they had, but I have to only rate a 6, just because it could have easily been the new Texas Chainsaw or better.

Plotless but graphic extreme horror effort
kannibalcorpsegrinder30 June 2021
After answering an online ad, a woman arrives at a couple's mansion home to be their live-in maid, but as they begin to explore an unusual psychosexual relationship with each other the couple discovers their maid's strange new ability may allow them to delve further into their sickness than they expected.

This was a generally uncomfortable if flawed genre effort. This one works best when working on what appears to be the main purpose of this one in its intense scenes of degradation and sexual torture. Opening on the couple humiliating one of their servants to the point she urinates on herself before being gruesomely dismembered, the stage is set immediately for the kind of film this one will eventually become. The fact that this one goes for the extreme and over-the-top display of bloodletting throughout here as time goes on and her ability is discovered allows the film to wallow in the kind of overt sexual fantasy that comes from their newfound ability to torture her without remorse. The perverse nature of what's going on and the willingness to partake in such sexualized role-play that is featured throughout here is quite graphic and uncomfortable with how much she's put through in order for the kinky fetishes to be explored here. Combined with the constant nudity and violence here, these features generate some enjoyable elements on display. This one does have some issues about it. The main problem here is the at-times distractingly obvious limitations imposed on this on by the low-budget which can become a major detrimental point against it. The absolutely irritating ability to switch between color and black-and-white photography for a lot of the more graphic scenes as a form of artistic expression is something to get over here, much like the cheap camera-work that never once belies its home-video origins. Since these are features brought about for the actual setup and execution of the film as a whole, these become running problems throughout the film as a whole which has to be taken into account as much as the cheap gore effects. The carnage and brutality present here in concept will undoubtedly win over instead of the execution which will leave a lot to be desired with their rather underwhelming look and effect which is a problem considering their frequent use throughout the multiple dismemberments and mutilations that take place. For some, this won't be an issue but for most others, this will be a rather major drawback to get over which holds this one back.

Rated Unrated/NC-17: Extreme Graphic Violence, Nudity, and Graphic Language.

Sure the practical effects were cool I guess, but it was laughable and lame. Go watch real horror.

Maid in Japan.
BA_Harrison10 March 2023
Miyako (gravure idol Miyako Akane) takes a job at a remote manor house, working alongside senior maid Mai-chan (An Koshi), whose body has remarkable regenerative powers. Miyako is surprised when her master (Shôgo Maruyama) and head maid Kaede (Soaco Roman) torture Mai, cutting off her finger and removing her eyeball (Kaede eating the juicy orb), but she also finds herself excited by the violent acts and longs to mutilate and devour Mai herself.

Based on the ero guro manga by Waita Uziga, Mai-chan's Daily Life is gory and perverse nonsense, featuring graphic scenes of sadism, humiliation, and cannibalism, with a hefty dose of nudity and fetishism. We get chainsaw dismemberment, intestine fondling, and those familiar Japanese obsessions, upskirt shots and peeing, and yet it's all too absurd to be considered disturbing or shocking (although I still wouldn't recommend showing it to granny or the kids). Director Sade Satô's tendency to use tacky video filters and switch to monochrome for no reason is irritating: black and white gore is never very satisfying.

5.5/10, rounded up to 6 for the music. Recommended to fans of the later Guinea Pig films such as He Never Dies (1986) and Android of Notre Dame (1988).

Macabre maid service, Blood, Guts & Romance is just another day at the office for Mai
tkaine329 July 2018
Hidden inside this erotic gore fest of blood, voyeurism, sadistic sexual acts and Cannibalism is a romantic love story.

A woman answers a help wanted ad to become a live in maid at a remote location for a recluse man in a wheelchair who speaks only through whispering orders to his assistant the head Madame of the home. Once the new maid gets hired she realizes there's one more maid who also works there and that maid will be her senior maid. But once the senior maid shows her the ropes the new maid realizes there is a very sadistic vibe to these chores but what the new maid doesnt realize yet is the senior maid harbors a secret that will open her mind and heart seducing her in a way she never dreamed could be possible.

'120 days of sodom', 'A Serbian Film', 'The Guinea pig series' these are films that are categorized as disturbing movies. Whether it's rape, dismemberment, a ton of blood and guts or incest these are things If seen visually for a majority of people would make them feel very uncomfortable. And it's always a little different for everyone so some scenes may not rub you the wrong way while others make you wanna puke. Now I'm not saying that "Mai-Chan's Daily Life" is the most disturbing movie I've seen but this beautiful tale starring the gorgeous model "Miyoka Akane" surely has more then a few moments.

The macab Style videography to this film adds to it's sensualness while amplifying the morbid encounters scene after scene. The first 5 mins. started off a little sketchy portraying a memory but after that the iso was reduced and the lens aperture increased capturing some stunning macro shots of the girls beguiling each other.

The music is also very beautiful at times playing symphony's and orchestra's while eating outdoors and sitting in a sunflower field. As wild as this movie gets with blood and Cannibalism it never strays off course from maintaining a straight objective for conveying or developing a love story.

This film only features a total of five person's but with clear direction, good acting and writing that doesn't waste time this film has amazing pace and keeps you entertained for the entire 1 hr. 3 min. run time.

The special effects at times looked better in some scenes then others but everything was at par or above. I mean who really knows what chewing someone's intestines really looks like.

All in all I give this film a great movie rating at 8. With a unique and interesting storyline, beautiful sexy actors, grotesque gore, urination and puss filled wounds this erotic Asian indie film is destined to become a cult favorite among those who like movies that tend to disturb most people. I know I do.

Great film
galaabakula20 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Its great film overall, but the first scene got me confused, but after that it was great. And also the master's reaction was killing me through out the fil m it was hilarious. Part where she went outside and eating was also confusing cause how did she bleed while eating something, and also how and why did the master passed out in the middle of the miyako's work. Kept me wondering through out the film. But expect these things it was great film. Based on really cool manga. 125 word left so im just gonna spam letters now.
