George Burns' 100th Birthday Party (1979)

*** 1/2 (out of 4)

There's a running joke throughout this special that George Burns isn't really 100 but he's actually 83 and certainly in fine form. This tribute is certainly very much worth watching as it contains some great laughs as well as some terrific talent including James Stewart, Milton Berle, Dean Martin, Steve Martin, Andy Gibb, Goldie Hawn, Pat Boone, Johnny Carson, Don Rickles and Gregory Peck.

Obviously there are some terrific legends here and they certainly make this worth watching. The highlight of the special is of course Burns who looks wonderful for his age and can still deliver a terrific song. He does several songs here but the highlight has to be the duet with Hawn. Other highlights includes the Rickles insults and Peck even gets a great bit asking Burns how he gets so many great movie roles. There's also a skit with Gibb who talks about wanting to reach Burns' age, which of course is a bit strange to watch now when we know he would die at the age of 30.

Overall, this is a highly entertaining special that fans will enjoy.
