One consistent struggle for Arrow this season has been to balance all of the characters well enough to solidify their position on the show. Perhaps no episode has executed that better tonight. Besides Prometheus himself, everyone important had something to do tonight, and it almost always had good results.

So we finally got some payoff from Susan's incriminating evidence she found on Oliver back in Russia. I believe she received the photos all the way back in the second episode of the season, and here we are in episode 14. Although it didn't take the direction that I thought, watching Thea and Felicity completely eradicate any credibility from her life was bittersweet. She originally came across as another Isabel Rochev-type, but I've grown to like her character even with all of her seemingly conniving motives toward Oliver. It was hard not to feel for her, and Carly Pope really shined in the scene at the Mayor's office.

How many episodes have we had with the police force/entire city against the Green Arrow? Too many to count. And we hardly needed another episode centered around that. However, I wasn't all that bothered by it tonight. Maybe it's because there was so much else going on that it never felt like a significant threat anyway. Now, Oliver Queen's daytime job may be another story entirely. I'm not sure the whole "end of my administration" thing is in the immediate future, but I have a feeling he won't be mayor by the time the season 6 premiere roles around. I also have a feeling Adrian Chase is linked to that "leaked report".

With all that was going on, the so called "Star City Sirens" consisting of Cupid, China White, and Liza Warner were only used sparingly. If it wasn't for the fact that we've already been associated with all of them, then that probably would have bothered me. But we didn't need to see an extended look at any of them. I was perfectly fine with the way they were used. At this point, the real issue is Prometheus' absence. We got a little tease seeing his mother early in the episode and he's certainly pulling some strings behind the scenes, but I'm ready for another full episode with him. It's about time.

Some other things worth noting: Thea & Oliver's brief feud was intriguing and I hardly believe that will be the end of things (good point by Ollie comparing her actions to Moira). The action was exceptional and although it wasn't a James Bamford episode, it sure felt like one. Curtis got a new suit, which is fine, but he needs to stop degrading his ability to fight in the field, it's getting out of hand. Lastly, Juliana Harkavy has done all the right things as Dinah. I loved her scene with Quentin and the fact that she is hesitant to take on the mantle of Black Canary. Let's let her stick around for a while, huh?

+Action

+Well-balanced

+Carly Pope shined

+Some closure with the "city vs Green Arrow" stuff

Arrow - S05E14 The Sin-Eater
j_forbesy22 February 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I wasn't too sure what this episode of Arrow was going to be about and because of that it was nice to be going in without any expectation on what we were getting. After last week's political themed episode, I did have a hope that we were going to have more of an Arrow themed episode and jump back into our big storyline.

After the first 5 or 10 minutes of this episode, I was worried this was going to be another villain of the week scenario where nothing came about, but it wasn't. While still being in a villain of the week skin, I thought this episode did a lot for the overall story moving forward.

What I really liked about this episode was that they were hitting the theme of having to face your past. I really liked the parallel we had this episode between what we assume is Prometheus's mother saying to Oliver that the Green Arrow has to pay for what his done and later on in the episode where Oliver has to face the fact that it was him that killed Billy and not Prometheus. Moments like this really build up the villain of Prometheus because you are seeing him succeed in making Oliver face what he has done in the past.

I said at the start that I was hoping for an Arrow centred episode and I think we got that this week. Backing up from the moments of Oliver facing his past, I really liked how the Green Arrow itself was in public display, that largely revolving around the cover up.I'm interested to see where this is going to head in the next few weeks, but either way I think we are about to dive into the meat of the story.

Touching on the flash backs, while I don't think they were bad this week, they just weren't as interesting as the modern story line. I don't think we are ever going to get back to season 1 and 2 quality flashbacks where we had Slade, but I think that so far, anytime Talia Al Ghul has been present, the flashbacks have stood out as a positive. I'm hoping that this was the start of the ending to the Bratva arc and we get more Talia to close out this seasons flashbacks.

Something I want to touch on as both a positive and negative is the recruits. I've really liked the new team and I've loved the addition of as Dinah, I thought she was really strong again this episode. However, I have to touch on Curtis. I like Curtis as a character, but he should know be a vigilante. While the Mr Terrific concept is cool and T spheres will be coming eventually, until then he offers nothing. The way he is written is that he can't handle himself. Since getting Diggle back in action and bringing Dinah who can handle herself, I don't see why I can't be them two along with Oliver and Wild-dog. We assume that Rory will come back into the fold later in the season to add another member, but even still, at the moment and for the future, I think Curtis is better behind the computer along with Felicity, similar to Team Flash having Cisco, Caitlyn and now Julian running the computer.

Overall I really liked this episode. While it wasn't my favourite episode of the season, I can see this episode being viewed as a game changer based off what happens in the coming weeks. Personally I think we are heading to a Green Arrow/Oliver reveal by the end of the season. Whether he does it to save his job as Mayor, it he reveals it later, I think it is coming.

Arrow, 5th TV series, episode 14.

Warning: Spoilers
Continuing the theme of vigilante by night, mayor by day, Oliver Queen is still working with the law and his team, now having recruited his third black canary, Queen works with the Star city police, but still under scrutiny. All the while he has been having mental flashbacks from his time in Russia before his days as Arrow, and when he worked with mafia.

Great Girl Power episode -- SinEater 5.14
BBloomcamera23 February 2017
Warning: Spoilers
This was another fantastic and very enjoyable standalone episode this season. This episode was not so much about the plot (villains) but about character development/great character interaction between some of the core characters.

It is so nice to have the real Quentin Lance back and taking part in the real action. The scenes between him and Oliver were so incredible. Their relationship/friendship has come such a long way since the pilot episode. The only part that even came close to matching their scenes was the surprising scene between Felicity and Thea, when they first hacked Susan William's account. Oliver was right -- Thea really did do something that Moira would have done, if she was still alive. Oliver can be his own worst enemy and these two ladies did do an amazing thing to protect him from himself. Thea did go too far, but it was nice to see how far she will go to protect her brother. After all, Oliver did go as far as to trade his life for hers back in season 3.

This episode was much lighter on the newbies, which made it a much more enjoyable character driven episode. There were many good original team arrow scenes, and there was good interaction between one Lance (Quentin) and the Queens. That was the magic formula from the early seasons that worked so well, when it was about the Queens and Lances.

Overall, there was great action, great character interaction, and great character development. Oliver's escape from police capture was awesome. It is hard to say if Oliver or Quentin earned the ultimate title of "Sin-Eater". However, looking over the course of this season, both of these men have to be at their max. Oliver has had literally everything go wrong this season, and poor Quentin basically lost everything. Both of them need some luck to turn their way. This almost seems like overkill. Not every little thing has to go wrong to make for an exciting season finale.

Villain Substitutions
highmarksreviews2 February 2018
Prometheus is a scary, menacing man for Team Arrow to tackle, so why bring back three that were not really great. Aside from the welcome return of China White (Kelly Hu), the plot felt rushed and pointless. The flashbacks continued to please to some degree though, but ultimately, "The Sin-Eater" is a lackluster episode with sparse action to entertain.
