Not bad
natcalgary28 September 2019
Considering the 2.5 mill budget this movie was not as bad as the ratings would make you believe. The acting was fairly decent and the story line made sense even if you could predict the twist.

Not a bad time killer

Order and Chaos

Warning: Spoilers
Jude (Katherine Hughes) aspires to be a violinist who can win the FAC fellowship. Emily Foster (Jordan Salmon) the previous winner fell off a building in the opening scene. Jude lives with two other co-eds and a couple of guys live next door. Everything is fairly normal except there is some stalking going on and Things become confused and unclear as we weave into the twisted ending. The producers of this film also did 'Nightmare on Elm Street." They managed to plug that film in this one.

The film felt too much like a made-for-TV production including commercial breakpoints. Nice twist at the end, but the story and plot don't hook.

Guide: F-word. Brief sex and brief nudity (Sonoya Mizuno Ex-Machina)

honest review

Warning: Spoilers
This is an honest review, the one who gave it a 8/10 is a bit biased IMHO...

will just do a numerical rating / evaluation:

CAST: 7/10 ACTING: 5/10 PLOT: 5/10 ENDING: 5/10

the reason why I gave it a 4/10 is because it could have been a lot better, the acting would have been better, the ending was alright I guess it just missed some important musical scoring., directing was average...

Story falls apart at the end
Woodyanders23 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Driven and intense aspiring violinist Jude (a strong and sympathetic portrayal by Katherine Hughes) preps for the biggest performance of her career. However, Jude can't get over the mysterious death of previous top violinist Emily Forster.

While director Robert Shaye manages to craft a decent amount of quietly sinister atmosphere, he crucially fails to generate any essential tension and the story basically meanders until the rushed climax. Moreover, the story attempts one twist too many that quite simply doesn't work. Worse yet, one particular twist is one of those oldest twists in the book that's just all kinds of lame and dissatisfying. Fortunately, the game cast do their best with the lackluster material, with especially praiseworthy work from Giles Matthey as the dashing Dave, Sonoya Mizuno as the sassy Sarah, Kyanna Simone Simpson as the perky Veronica, Bryan Batt as demanding teacher Murphy, and John Kroft as unfaithful boyfriend Ben. Lin Shaye has a fun cameo as a crazy homeless lady. A strictly so-so timekiller.

You'll hate yourself if it makes sense.

Warning: Spoilers
The acting of the leads is decent, with little else in the way of help, either because of the poor writing or mediocrity of the cast.

The actual story though will hit you hard if you're in that niche of competitive musicianship that can feel the stresses of the main character and understand not only her plight for success, but the lengths she goes to continue the aberration that is her life. That a lot of her live passages were played with incorrect (but contextual to the character, correct) technique is a low-key stroke of genius and hints to how unglued she is.

I think the idea behind this film is very sound and it's well deserving another shot. The new producer can even pull a Sam Raimi and cast Ms. Hughes again and I wouldn't mind all that much. Gotta have a better writing of the screenplay though.

Don't get the rating
Strimlarn877 June 2020
I just watched this movie totally random, and I don't find it that pretty decent. 3.7 stars? Really? Give this movie a chance, because it's not really that bad. I rate it 6 because it really did have something interesting about it. It was not perfect, but the idea was pretty good. It could have been executed better though.
