16 months after Season 2
A Graffiti artist tags an underpass. He sees a parked RV and a SUV, hiding he hears gunshots and the SUV peels away. He walks warily to the RV, enters, sees a man shot dead and leaves gasping.
On election night 8 Nov 16 the mayoralty election is on. A bartender waits on a drunk customer. Bosch views TV and watches the Ramos win. He's called to Rampart Station. The drunk is on the floor of the cell, Bosch was to be notified if the man was ever picked up, a suspect in a cold case. Back home he looks in on sleeping Maddie, then has a smoke on his balcony overlooking LA.
The drunk is taken to his motel by a woman who leaves quickly. Irving goes to the cemetary to see his son George's grave.
Bosch is dressed for court, he chats with Maddie, she wants to take driving lessons. Maddie is upset he is smoking so he tosses his cigarettes out the window. At the station Bosch looks for the drunk but is upset to discover the man was bailed out at 5 am.
Mayor elect Ramos comes to see Irving. They ask him to take the Chief job fulltime.
In court, Honey Chandler grills Bosch on the scene back in the church with Veronica Allen and the dead Father Tabakian. She brings up an old tainted evidence case.
In a restaurant afterwards picking up takeout Bosch gulps down a drink, a man takes the empty glass from the bar. Bosch and Maddie discuss her mom and stepdad, Bosch has another case coming to trial, a movie director arrested for murder.
The next day Ronny Allen is on the stand and tearfully explains her side, the priest had assaulted her and she acted in self-defense. After, in the hallway DA Rick O'Shea partly blames Bosch. Jerry Edgar asks about the Holland case and A/DA Benitez. At Holland's house Bosch and Benitez go over the evidence with Holland's lawyer and security guard Rudy Taferro, an ex-cop. Taferro taunts Bosch
Benitez and Bosch then go to the dead girl's walkup apartment, Bosch suspects Taferro must have helped carry the body upstairs, she had been high on ecstasy.
Responding to a call Bosch and Edgar arrive at the RV. The body is decomposing but they notice a latin tatoo on the shoulder. Officer Edge was the responding officer, Bosch notices the new graffiti, Edge says he can track it down. The other cop Powers is pessimistic and seems to dislike Bosch. Getting in their car Bosch says the latin motto is Special Forces military
Lt Billets meets Capt Lewis, in the office, the two discuss the possible verdict, Bosch and Billet's written and upcoming oral exam for promotion. The Capt makes a mild homophobic remark
The next day as Grace come to work the Detectives kibbitz, Crate and Barrel joke around.
In court the judge declares a mistrial, Chandler tells Bosch another trial would end up the same, Veronica Allen laughs at him and saunters out.
O'Shea is angry and blames Bosch's breaking rules, the DA will not refile. Harry goes ballistic a glass is broken and other patrons take notice. Benitez tries to calm Harry down. Later, alone, Harry watches surveillance video when Maddie comes in to show a tweet from the restaurant, a video clip of the arguement.
The grafitti artist and two pals play a gay sex trick on a cruiser.
Chief Irving makes a passioned speech at the new police gràduation ceremony, referring to George and ultimate sacrifices. Afterwards, Irving chats with a member of the Police Commission. Hector Ramos and O'Shea congratulate Irving, then the DA takes the Chief aside to complain about Bosch. Shortly after Capt Lewis calls in Lt. Billets show her something.
Edgar and Bosch interview the dead SF vet's parents. They only saw him infrequently and were unsure what he was up to. The cops look over his bedroom, they see the man did three tours as a Green Beret. Bosch notices there are no recent Army souvenirs or kit, the mother says the other Army things was kept elsewhere
Bosch arrives home, Grace is there with Maddie having ramen. After some small talk Maddie excuses herself, Billets advises Harry that IA is filing a 128 for the video, she urges him to take time off. She tells him he hasn 't been himself since closing his mother's murder. Awhile later, Maddie comes to say goodnite and is worried if all is alright.
In Koreatown a man riding a bike assaults a woman and steals her cellphone.
Harry returns to watching the surveillance video and sees the part where the woman in the red dress drops off the drunk, he wonders who she is.
