One of the funniest
mister_bateman17 September 2020
Girls are rarely funny but the main girl in this one really pulls it off with her mix of cuteness and totally comic-like over-acting. The same goes for this rather effeminate but hilarious and always extremely cheerful male side character who all the school girls fawn over. This is really one of the funniest shoujo movies I have seen so far. It's pretty crazy and over the top storywise as well, but it also has some serious elements to balance it out. It's a good, well paced mix that never gets boring and several characters are interesting in one way or another. Definitely one of the better ones of the genre.

Good enough

Warning: Spoilers
Another manga movie, but with an unexpected ending. Actually, the movie was too manga like, with some ridiculous scenes, like the one where the girl 'jumped' out of the window and the surgery recovering guy brought her back into the room using only one hand... But, it was cute enough, with a light mood towards the love story and the whole sparkly theme. The girl was good enough, though the crying scenes weren't her it game... The boys were good as well, especially the 'second' lead, who was cute and funny, but a little too boyish. Overall, an okay movie, its best feature being the ending.

Really good for a J-drama first timer

Although I've watched anime and read manga since I was a kid, it's only very recently that I've developed an interest in live action adaptations. I could never really get into it, because I thought the actors were trying too hard to act like anime characters. Granted some of the acting in this did have an anime feel, at least it wasn't overboard in my opinion. Anyway, I decided to give this movie a try, despite the fact that I never read the Peach Girl manga, nor watched the anime, nor watched the first live action adaptation (I know, I know, what an abominable act), so mind you, I came into this with no expectations. In the end, I ended up really liking it - heck I'd say this is has already made it to the top of my list for live action adaptations. I have no idea how dis/similar the actors were to their manga counterparts, so I can't judge whether they did their source material justice, but I can say that for a romance movie this definitely brings in the goods. For a two hour movie, the pacing was good (never felt bored), the transitions into pivotal events was pretty smooth, and by the end of the movie you really gain a sense of attachment to the main characters. I ended up squealing, tearing up, smiling, and giggling a lot throughout the movie. Honestly, I gained a soft spot for all four main characters (and actors, though I was already familiar with and fond of Mackenyu and Mei, as well as Kei Inoo but only as an idol). Now I actually have some desire to read the manga. I guess it's better this way since there's no way for me to feel like I've been snubbed. If the manga really is far better, then my experience with this series will only get better. Anyway, I really do recommend this movie especially to those who are newcomers to the J-drama world or have never seen or read any previous works of Peach Girl, like me. For those who are familiar with Peach Girl, based on seeing other people's comments, I guess stay cautious if you don't want to possibly be disappointed!

Beautiful Story in Japanese Comic Style
khemass6 February 2024
I don't know why my latest review was declined and they could not give me a reason. So I want to try again here.

The movie is told in Japanese comic style, like you're reading a manga, so the acting might look a bit strange or overacted. But after you get used to that you'll find a beautiful story. I really like the theme of unselfish love. What Kairi did for Momojang are a lot of sincere and loving things that a person can do for another. He didn't even try to get her to be his girlfriend when he thought that she really liked someone else.

I think the cast perform well. The story is easy to follow. The music is so-so (they should have tried to use more slow and romantic song). Overall, it is a feel good movie, very funny at the beginning and more drama afterward. Not so outstanding but not bad either.
