Fantastic episode, best visuals so far, and the ending..oh the ending

Warning: Spoilers
I just finished watching GoT and I with my expectations really high, I needed something good. What I didn't expect was how good The Expanse was. The final episode was, by far, my favorite one. The whole episode was great, but the final scene outshined everything by far. The piano and the vocals blended perfectly with every moment. Bobby entering the room as an angel of salvation, and the way Avasalara looks at her. The protomolecule deconstructing our human creation to its smallest parts and leaving us in awe..oh, and the torpedo scene. The best vocals I have heard in years. The exact moment he holds Death itself in his hands, disguised as the protector of life. 10/10 no doubt. Best sci-fi I watched in years

Good finale episode of a good season 2

Greetings from Lithuania.

"Caliban's War", 13th episode of "The Expanse" ended season 2 in a good way. Some plot lines were closed, but many other and interesting events lies ahead - this is what i think after seeing season 2. This was a good episode - intense, past paced and involving with some good special effects.

Overall, season 2 was an improvement over season 1. I'm not saying that 1st season was weak, no, it was also pretty good but second was simply better. That said i will be watching this show in a future, with season 3 underway. It is a good sci-fi show overall, with great source material and pretty good execution. Far from best shows that are out there, but it is a very solid sci-fi show, story of which like i said is its driving force.

Warning: Spoilers
When we have detente with nuclear weapons, at least each of the participants know what they fear. They have their own scientists and experts and understand the physics. Here, even those who think they have the upper hand don't know what they have in their pockets. As this final episode concludes the second season, a speech is made about not being able to do anything. Well, for now they have hit the nail on the head and where does that take everyone? Errenfight, the biggest crud in the whole show, really believes he has some control. But Johnson is out there and Mao. And promises have been made.

The last 4 episodes have been very flawed
mostlyharmless-307288 February 2021
I haven't been a fan of the last four episodes, there have been too many flaws especially compared to episodes previous which have been absolutely excellent. Kinda disappointed because of this decline but I still love this show.

Great finale and season

Warning: Spoilers
This review contains spoilers.

Caliban's War is the thirteenth episode and acts as the finale to the second season. A protomolecule monster has stowed aboard the Rocinante. The crew must seek a solution to dealing with the creature.

Caliban's War is an exciting finale. Although it does not offer much in terms of resolution in the story, the episode ultimately does well in the overall narrative. The protomolecule monster is destroyed in an interesting way and the episode ultimately leaves off the characters in an interesting setup for the next season.

Grade: A

The Expanse Season Two

The Expanse season two picks up where the first season leaves off. Eros stations has been exposed to the bioweapon found in the first season. The crew of the Rocinante immediately leave and try to find those responsible for the protomolecule.

The second season expands upon the universe of The Expanse even further. The second season adds a new arc and character in the Martian sergeant. The culture and power of the belt is seen fully with Fred Johnson and Tycho station. The continuing mystery of the protomolecule is continued here with the conspirators coming into the forefront. Although the universe is expanded, the more self-contained stories have been dropped. The main arcs are prioritized. Fans of the first season will find much to appreciate here. Many arcs that were started in the first season are satisfyingly resolved. Anyone looking for more background and world building will be happy to find it in the second season. The show has also received a higher budget from the first season and it definitely shows here.

Grade: A.

Poor ending to what was, overal, a great season
CoRE-eu27 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This episode required too much suspension of disbelief.

In former episodes a lot of the "suspension of disbelief" was handled pretty well, mainly with exposition. Which is, in my opinion okay at times, especially with a hard science-fiction like this. However the level of suspension of disbelief required in this episode became way too much.

Take for example the scene in which: Roberta 'Bobbie' W. Draper, Cotyar and Chrisjen Avasarala are pinned down. Completely unrealistic how the events took place. They try to solve this situation by dialogue (exposition); by trying to negotiate about the situation. And enabling 'Bobbie' to get through a vent and getting her suit, which is conveniently taken and quite easily accesable. Although, this scene is quite bad, it's one I can accept, I don't mind it as much as I do the other problems:

Dr. Praxidike 'Prax' Meng asuming that his daughter is in the "Hybrit". Which is based on no facts, it's an assumption and it's a bad one. The Dr. can know his daughter is still alive because Dr. Strickland is nowhere to be found. Hence, he can make the assumption that his daughter is with him, because she hasn't left his side, for as far as he knows, based on the security footage. But I suppose this would take away too much tension, specifically at the events leading up to the death of the "Hybrid". Nonetheless, I think it's poor writing. Which was completely unnecessary. I do mind this problem, but it's not one of the more annoying ones:

James Holden getting pinned down by something the "Hybrid" threw at him. The slow speed at which the "Hybrid" tried to get through the floor. This is what we can call a consistency issue; it's completely out of order with the pre-established rules. Somehow I expect they deviated from the books at the issues I mentioned.

Besides all of these issues I could appreciate the twist with Sadavir Errinwright, although I saw something coming, this is not exactly what I was anticipating.

Overall, I would give this season a 8 and that is entirely due to this epsiode, it could've been quite a bit higher. Some scenes gave me goosebumps, which does not happen often. I think I'm being generous by giving this episodes a 6, but what it did do good it really did do good.

Thanks for reading my review!

Badly badly flawed
bgaiv6 October 2021
The Venus explorers keep losing probes, so they decide to take their ship down there. Right. At least the characters lampshade how dumb this is.

Avasarala's party is pinned down in a very small room by four gunmen, and those gunmen are paid by one of the wealthiest men in this universe. Avasarala's gunman is good, but there is no reason to believe he has these superhuman abilities.

Prax's belief that the hybrid is his daughter is ridiculous.

This show has some great stuff, and the actors are great, but I think there are many reasons this episode has less than ten reviews.

unrealistic

Warning: Spoilers
Did 4 armed men just lose against Cotyar??? Why would they retreat after one of their men got shot and how did they not kill Cotyar, Chrisjen and the martian girl? Well that's it for me, this was too unrealistic for me to bare. The first season was pretty good especially the finale, but after Joe Miller died I caught myself caring less and less.
