"Behind" is a Spanish Spanish-language live action short film from 2016. It runs for 15 minutes and was written and directed by Angel Gómez Hernández, who has been making films since 2006 already and his experience shows here I think. This is his firstg film with an English title I believe and I am curious if he gets to make a full feature movie in the near future. I think the talent is definitely there. This is the story of a single mother who is worried about the girl's father taking the child away from her and to Germany. Now little does she know that here fears should be situated entirely elsewhere when it comes to somebody taking her daughter from her. She is at a celebration when an elderly woman approaches her and tells her that there is somebody in the shadows watching and stalking her and you could already guess at that point that the danger here is supernatural. The rest of the film takes place at the woman's home where she is alone and of course quickly confronted by the creatures. I think the director here used some pretty nice ideas, nothing really new or groundbreaking or anything you haven't seen before in film, but it is all at the right place, be it the minor aspects like the delay when waiting for the photo, the woman's fear at the very end when the daughter seems gone or the inevitable jump scare that will quickly make sure no happy ending this time. And I could probably list half a dozen more references. A nice little short film that horror film lovers will appreciate for sure, especially as I do as somebody who would not list horror among his very favorite genres. But that is not a problem. Yes if you dig deep enough, you will find some flaws in the story, especially about the old lady like she has a camera to spot the intruder, but gets a crucial fact wrong. Oh well. But lets not nit-pick here. A good movie. Nice to see it received some awards recognition and I think you should check it out.
