Go back to Season One!!!
lilac-315825 July 2017
Season 1=10/10, Season 2=3/10. Season 1 had it all, physical challenges, cadres with killer backgrounds, and obstacles courses that had to be completed before the final challenge had to be completed! It made sense. Now, it's too much reality. These women Marines are so emotional (not that they shouldn't be), and the 2 cadre men are typical I guess. One is supposed to be a drill Sargent but half the stuff he says for motivating his crazy emotional team is flat out dumb. You have a high school reject looking to be popular or have a redo in life, another girl on the same team cries every episode (literally). Another chick, does her makeup every episode & could give 2 you-know-what's about the competition & on top of it, her boobs couldn't be more present in every episode as well. Season 1 was about athletic challenges and about the contestants, now it's just about the reality and helping people from people who have serious problems themselves. To be honest, these cadres look like they were the rejects in their respective branches. Im sure even John Cena is like "what the heck did I sign up for with this season?" FOX- please go back to the original premise of the show with real contestants, real cadres, and real hardcore challenges that show American GRIT!

I shouldn't have enjoyed this so much
Too-Tall-for-the-Desert5 December 2021
Much of this show is awful. Arrogance, 'beautiful' people that love themselves too much, selfishness, silliness, gameshow nonsense. BUT..... I really really enjoyed it. Compulsive viewing and I found myself binge watching which I hardly ever do. Go figure!

Dale Robertson
magpiebaby29 July 2022
I never watch TV anymore except Grit .I watch every night except when Dale Robertson is in the westerns .I'm sick of watching him all the time.of all the westerns made since the beginning of time, you would think grit wouldn't have to show dale Robertson shows all the time. Theres thousands of other great actors in westerns that id like to watch .I'm so tired of wells Fargo because of Robertson! I really like all the others & enjoy grit tv.

I look forward to this show every Sunday!
kbills-9868025 July 2017
I absolutely love this show! I especially love season 2! In fact, I like season 2 a lot more than season 1. I love the four cadre that were picked, and I love the fact they used "vulnerable" participants. The drama and the craziness makes it so much more entertaining! It's so relatable and I love seeing all the dynamics of contestants. I also love the dynamics and the differences among the Cadre. I look forward to watching this show every Sunday! I hope that if this is renewed for a 3rd season, they design it the same way it was for Season 2.

Entertaining, heartwarming and motivational

This show is easy and fun to watch. The setting (scenery) was beautiful and the lodge where they stayed was amazing. It is so cool to see places like this. Well done and entertaining challenges, inspirational dialogue and John Cena is perfect as the host! I am so impressed by him. My whole family loved this show and are now huge fans of John Cena, even though we were never into wrestling. Watching the Cadres motivate and bond with the contestants was so neat. I would love to see this show continue. I hope there are many more seasons to come. We don't watch much TV but did not miss an episode of this first season and will definitely watch the next season. This show is great- I would even love to watch all of the same Cadres return to do the next season. So great!!!

LOVE this show

Warning: Spoilers
This show is exciting, and enticing to watch. I can see where some people lose interest. Just due to the lack of motivation this country has anymore(obesity rates show this). If you like Spartan team challenge or American Ninja Warrior, I personally think you will like this show. It has a humorous side to it with John Cena being the main show event holder. I am confused on how anyone that enjoys watching anything, physical, military, or just ruggedness would not like this show. The outdoorsy type of show that you would expect to show what the American people can endure, one girl literally pushes herself so hard her body shuts off when she is doing the ice bucket challenge. If even 1 out of 10 Americans could push as hard as she did at anything that they tried I believe that America could once again become a great nation. by that I mean no disrespect to anyone, but if we can coddle people that think they have a disability due to the fact they are to lazy to motivate themselves to get up and exercise and overfeed themselves and there children. That is not American. American Grit really just shows you how far the body can go if you push it. John Cena does an amazing job with this show and I hope it goes on to several more seasons

A Competition That Feels Like A Recruiting Ad For The U.S. Military
atlasmb10 May 2016
This competition show pits four teams, led by representatives of the various military services, against each other in physical contests designed to show whether or not they have American grit. Presumably American grit is different from the grit of other nationalities. But there is ample evidence to demonstrate that Aussies, Russians, Brits, etc. all have shown remarkable courage and determination in trying circumstances.

Hosted by John Cena, who has more than a token role and is a strong presence throughout the show, AG feels like a recruiting ad for the U.S. military, with language dripping in nationalism, patriotism, militarism and jingoism. It takes care to draw a line between the military way of doing things and the civilian way.

The team leaders are a Navy SEAL, a Marine gunnery sergeant, an Army ranger sniper, and an Army sergeant. The latter is Noah Galloway, who competed on "Dancing with the Stars". The winning team is promised a $1,000,000 prize.

The tasks are grueling and sometimes require strategy. The strategic element is undermined somewhat by the insistence of host and leaders that the military way is always the best way, which means "follow orders". Following orders is essential to military methods, in which each solider must subjugate his own goals and ego to the goals of the team. This fails to recognize superior decision making or strategizing by subordinates, because decisions are made at the top of the command structure.

Those with a military background may appreciate the show because of its approach to competition. Those who appreciate the American ideal of the strong individual might enjoy more other competition shows like "American Ninja Warrior" or "Strong".

Too much reality show
mikey_editor22 April 2016
It's a fun escape. I think much scripted. Teams meet challenges and one member of each non-winning team has to pass an individual challenge in which one of those drops out. The physicality seems real enough Not much different than other competition shows. As it has completed filming, obviously all of them are paid something to not reveal the end, like all TV competition shows. I am disappointed the first team to be eliminated is obviously the only one led by a woman The injured competitors are also women. This is sending a macho message not all viewers will accept. Cena is impressive I do not understand the overall message, though. I do not see what is being proved other than the most fit will win

American Grit

this is an excellent show of strength and endurance, Great Job John! always a fan, Keep up the good work. I enjoy all episodes, the productions is good and the exercises that each team has to go through is just awesome, I feel sorry for Tony, as he is the only one left on his team, I am rooting for you tony, hope you have the guts to continue, don't give up, mind over matter.

Not sure how the romance is going to work out between team red and Blue, will be interesting to see what happens when the robber meet the road and they have to compete against each other, let see if love will prevail over 1/4 million dollars.

they have screwed this show up
getting2me26 June 2017
the first season of this show was very good. It took in shape people and made them accomplish military style drills and situations. The cadre were also of the highest caliber. This sophomore season has not fared well. They've turned it into more of a Doctor Phil feel good show. They've taken average or below average people off the street and they're trying to "help" them with their problems. Even the "cadre" have their own problems. They decided to put 2 "hardcore" women marines in the cadre and they are anything but hardcore. I keep expecting to see them cry every episode just like 2 of the contestants that cry every time the camera is on them. Like I said, first season was really good, this 2nd season, not so much.

Mr Cena, could you make season 3 of this show please as it is great
maddison-5965717 March 2021
I thoroughly enjoyed both seasons 1 and 2 of this show. Mr Cena, if you are reading this, could you possibly make a third and possibly fourth season of this show as it is excellent and really entertaining. I found myself extremely interested in the Cadre, Competitors, and tasks that they were challenged with. If another season can't be made for some reason, then please accept my sincere thanks for bringing a decent show to tv.

Season 1 watchable - Season 2 not so much
nwsaia30 May 2023
Even though I'm English, I'm well used to watching cheesy over the top hugging TV reality shows. Season 1 had serious cadre and competitors who were put through their paces. It's always rewarding watching top notch athletes get beat by middle aged females (Race Across the World being a prime example). Season 2, from the offset told us that these contestants were there for a fun time. Even the military cadre weren't convincing. I'm ex-army so I have my doubts. This season wasn't anything physical but relied entirely on beach ball games. Hopefully, if they make another series (which I doubt), it'll be better, with real people (not actors) etc.

Scripted to the fullest
Xavier_Stone1 July 2020
I was interested in this fitness show as it seemed to have more and better challenges than the American Ninja series. The pilot episode has a fitness instructor with what looks to be 7-9% bodyfat and is cocky as all hell and with his backstory completing all sorts of tasks. So naturally he is not going to win I thought. Sure enough little by little the contestants are eliminated until there is just him vs a tiny 100pound lady who is athletic in her own right but is an accountant or something and is not nearly as in shape. It's a percentage body weight grip test, and they are leaning back. Fitness instructor could probably hold on for 30mins, the accountant maybe 5-15 mins, and I was so pissed I setup the exercise here at home and lasted 21 mins. Well, shockingly both cameras show each of them struggling after 4 mins and losing grip until the fitness instructor falls first, well under his expected time.

This show is so blatantly scripted that it should be reclassified under drama.

Season one = grit. Season two = Jersey Shore
ofrimoran26 May 2023
Season one of American Grit was great. We had people who actually had grit (for the most part, minus a couple spoiled whiners) who came to compete on a physical and mental level and prove they have what it takes. It was a good season and very enjoyable and motivating to watch.

I don't know what made the producers go for such a drastic change, but season two was the exact opposite. The contestants did not seem interested in proving anything even remotely related to grit. It almost seems like there was a mix up in the casting and they accidentally brought the crew of Jersey Shore, who was more interested in drama and petty bickering than a competition of any sort. The only grit in season two was that of any viewer who managed to watch the entire season.

Bring back season one.
