Sad news, Jackie Daytona lovers: The Staten Island vampire coven is disbanding for good. The upcoming 6th season of “What We do in the Shadows” will be the show’s last, TheWrap has confirmed.
The acclaimed FX sitcom was renewed through Season 6 two years ago — the now-final season airs Tbd in 2024. The series premiered in March, 2019.
No reason was given for the decision to end the show; FX representatives decliend to comment.
Starring Kayvan Novak, Matt Berry, Natasia Demetriou, Harvey Guillén, Mark Proksch and Kristen Schaal, “What We Do in the Shadows” is a continuation of the acclaimed 2014 film of the same name written and directed by Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi.
Framed as a mockumentary, the show follows the misadventures of coven of dysfunctional vampires and their beleagured human familiar in Staten Island, New York. Turning nearly every vampire trope upside down, the series mines their very human flaws...

Taika Waititi has a lot of irons in the entertainment industry fire at the moment, and the Kiwi comedy and action visionary has just added another one in Our Flag Means Death, a period-set pirate comedy series, which is headed to HBO Max.
Fresh off a Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar win for his starring/directing turn in JoJo Rabbit, Waititi has added the duties of executive-producer and director for the manic maritime madness of Our Flag Means Death to his surreally stacked backlog of shows and films. HBO Max describes the series as being loosely based on the real-life adventures of Stede Bonnet (1688-1718), a pampered Barbados-born aristocrat who abandoned his life of privilege to become a pirate in the Caribbean islands, operating as a contemporary of others like the legendary Blackbeard.

What We Do In The Shadows is on its way to becoming a television series as Variety reports FX has given a pilot production order to a potential show. Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi, who starred in the original film, will serve as executive producers on the potential series.
From what we know about the project from past interviews, it's been said this series will take place in the United States. Described as a reboot, the potential series will likely follow vampires, which is a different subject matter than the film's sequel We're Wolves. They are also working on a spinoff series in New Zealand called Wellington Paranormal, following the bumbling cops Karen and Mike who were briefly featured in the film.

Star Trek: Discovery's Saru, Doug Jones, will also star in the What We Do In The Shadows TV series, it's been announced...
In news that had us throwing our phones across the room in excitement last month, it was confirmed that FX had ordered a pilot of a new What We Do In The Shadows TV series (not to be confused with the New Zealand-set spin-off in development).

Further casting details have arrived this week, with Variety confirming that Doug Jones - currently playing Saru in CBS All Access' Star Trek: Discovery - will also star in the series. 2018 has been a great year for Jones so far, as he also plays the central amphibian in Guillermo Del Toro's Oscar contender The Shape Of Water, too.
No details about Jones' character have been released, but joining him...

If you're a fan of Taika Waititi and Jermaine Clement's hilarious film What We Do In The Shadows, we've got some great new information on the spin-off series to share with you! I love that they are continuing to build on this comedic supernatural world! The series will be called Wellington Paranormal, and it's separate from the sequel that's in development called We're Wolves.
During an interview with Stuff, Jermaine Clement revealed that the first season of the series will consist of six 30-minute episodes. The story will center around the detective characters Mike Minogue and Karen O’Leary, who were introduced in What We Do In The Shadows. They will be patrolling the streets of Wellington, New Zealand in search of nefarious supernatural activity hunting out ghosts, werewolves and demonic possessions.
Producer Paul Yates went on to confirm that Wellington Paranormal be shot in a documentary-style like the movie...

First of all, if you haven't seen director Taika Waititi's What We Do in the Shadows, you need to watch it as soon as possible! It's seriously one hell of a funny-ass film. Now we've learned that he's developing an American TV series version of What We Do in the Shadows! Taika Waititi revealed the news himself in an interview with Fandango, saying:
"We're trying to develop a U.S. version of What We Do in the Shadows. You know, set here in the states, but a T.V. show."
That could be a ton of fun! We've known for a while that he's slowly been developing a spin-off film called We're Wolves, as well as another spin-off involving the two police officers from What We Do in the Shadows. Those are both still in development, and apparently the cop spin-off is going to start production soon.

Taika Waititi's Marvel Cinematic Universe directorial debut Thor: Ragnarok arrives in theaters next week and will surely gain the New Zealander a mass of new fans. Getting that amount of attention will likely earn him other big-budget directing gigs.
The biggest one that Waititi is reportedly considering to direct is the live-action Akira film, which Warner Bros. has been developing for years. Whether that happens or not, things aren’t looking too promising for the long-rumored sequel to What We Do In The Shadows titled We're Wolves.
i09 spoke to Waititi about Thor, but asked him if he had a personal connection to Akira. He responded:
"My mom took me to see Akira in the cinema in 1989, or whenever it came out in New Zealand, and it was a huge turning point in my life for what I imagined animation to be and realizing what it could be. It...

Last year we learned that Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement were developing a TV spin-off series inspired by Waititis hilarious vampire mockumentary What We Do In The Shadows. That series has taken a huge step forward as the broadcast funding agency Nz On Air has put up $1 million towards making six 30-minute episodes.
The series will be called Paranormal Event Response Unit, and the story will follow the two naive police officers, Karen and Mike, who originally appeared in the 2014 film. They will attempt to keep residents of the New Zealand capital safe from supernatural beings and all manner of mythical beasts.
During an interview with the New Zealand website Newshub, Nz On Air executive Jane Wrightson said:
"Comedy is serious business and notoriously hard to get right. We are delighted that Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi are bringing their talents to smaller screens."

Need a laugh? Here's our guide to 25 comedies that are on Netflix UK now, and are well worth your time...
Putting aside all of the chunter about VPNs and rising subscription costs for a moment, there are more hidden gems to be discovered on Netflix UK than you might expect, and we've been combing through the streaming site's current catalogue to find some of the most underappreciated comedies on offer.
We've come up with this fairly broad selection of films that varies on several fronts. We've picked out a mix of belly laughers and dark comedies, with a couple of dramedies thrown in for good measure. They're not all big Hollywood comedies, but neither are they all films that you're hearing about for the first time, though we've tried to order them according to how well known they may or may not be. What they all have...

With the release of "Hunt for the Wilderpeople" in U.S. cinemas this week, New Zealand filmmaker Taika Waititi has been out doing promotional rounds and talking up his next project, Marvel Studios' "Thor: Ragnarok".
One question that does come up though is what he intends to do after 'Thor', with many suspecting a follow-up to his acclaimed vampire mockumentary "What We Do in the Shadows". Waititi has previously discussed plans for a werewolf-centric sequel titled "We're Wolves" and today, while speaking with Entertainment Weekly, the outlet asked him about his plans for the film which he'll co-write with Jemaine Clement.
"We want to do it, and we're coming up with story ideas. The first film took us about seven years to make, and we don't want to do that again. It's a lot easier now that we have all the characters, and we know how we want to do it,...
