A+E Networks is continuing its investment in Korean entertainment content with “A Good Day to Be a Dog,” a fantasy romantic comedy that will upload from Oct. 11. Within Korea, the show will play on public broadcaster Mbc and Lifetime Korea, releasing at the rate of one episode per week, every Wednesday.
Adapted by screenwriter Baek In Ah from a webtoon originally written by Lee Hye, the story involves a young woman turns into a dog at midnight after she kisses someone. The only way to break the curse is to have the same person kiss her in her canine form. The predicament makes her dating life complicated and ironically, a man who is deathly afraid of all dogs is the only person who can free her from this lifelong predicament.
The 14-episode series stars Park Kyu-young (Netflix’s “Celebrity”) as the young woman and Cha Eun-woo as her reluctant suitor.

A+E Networks has rejigged its structure in Asia, with its regional chief leaving as a result.
The new structure will see Youngsun Soh promoted to Senior Vice President and Managing Director of A+E Korea and John Flanagan to Senior Vice President and Managing Director of A+E Japan & Southeast Asia.

The show is a transformational story of an impoverished man with a troubled past and a twisted attitude who accidentally joins Team Genie, a group which carries out the last wishes of patients in hospice care. He starts caring for people other than himself for the first time and learns how to open his heart and live harmoniously. Each episode has a separate story of a patient in hospice care and Team Genie’s journey to carry out their wishes.

Seasons one and two will both debut on IMDb TV from Feb. 12, 2022, with the launch marking the U.S. premiere of season two. The first season of “Dramaworld” originally debuted on Netflix and Viki.

Film producers and distributors are currently seeing some light at the end of the tunnel, and are busily repopulating the late summer distribution calendar. But the virus has hastened the systemic shift to a more digital future.
In pre-covid times, film-mad fans meant Korea had one of the world’s highest per-capita cinema attendance rates and the mid-sized country the world’s fourth-largest box office. And after “Parasite” and Korean-language, U.S.-made “Minari” scored at Oscars and resonated with audiences worldwide, there has been renewed interest in Korean movies, at levels not seen since the naughties.
At first, Korea seemed to be handling the pandemic well, through isolation and testing, and in summer 2020, cinemas were able to welcome back major commercial movies.

In Korea itself “Dramaworld” will play from Friday on A+E Networks’ Lifetime Korea channel and on the Cj Enm-backed streamer TVing. In Hong Kong, Taiwan and Southeast Asia it will play out on the international service of Chinese streamer iQIYI, while in Japan its home will be the country’s number three streamer U-Next.
In its first iteration, as a web drama with mini episodes, the show played from 2016 on Netflix and the Rakuten-owned streamer Viki.

Being in lockdown has prompted different responses from actors Aaron Glenane and Liv Hewson.
Glenane, who came back to Sydney from Los Angeles with his fiance and young child, admits he was “going nuts” so he had the idea of staging a live reading of Lyle Kessler’s play Orphans, which he performed at the Old Fitz Theatre five years ago.
He put the idea to Red Line Productions co-founder Andrew Henry, who reached out to Kessler. In turn Kessler approached Alec Baldwin, who starred in the Broadway production in 2013, the story of two orphaned brothers living in a decrepit North Philadelphia house.
The result was the first live streamed reading of the play, featuring Baldwin, Glenane and Henry, with stage directions and descriptions read by lifetime member of the Actors Studio Judy Jerome, on April 11/12.
Hewson is happy to be in South Korea working...

Propagate has landed the rights to “Dramaworld,” the award-winning scripted series set in L.A. and Seoul. The first season of the show scooped the Most Popular Foreign Drama of the Year award at the Seoul International Drama Awards, and Netflix acquired the streaming rights.
A second, 10-episode season is in production. Propagate, which is run by Ben Silverman and Howard T. Owens and backed by A+E, will sell both seasons of “Dramaworld” outside of Svod after striking an agreement with its producer, Third Culture Content.
